Chapter 6

After Anson finished talking, he tore up the guest list, glanced around, and said, "Except for the executive I just fired, everyone else on the list will be buried under millions in debt.
"I swear all of you will pay the price."
The guests were feeling frantic.

One moment they were relieved for staying out of Jake's fight; the next, they were buried under huge debts.
The banquet hall was now filled with sorrow. My dad felt frustrated every time I cried. When the crowd wailed, he yanked his walking stick against the floor and said, "If I ever hear a single sound, your debt will increase to one million."
The entire banquet hall became very quiet. Everyone was careful not to agitate my dad.
My dad sat quietly in his chair. It was as though whatever happened was not of concern to him.
The mood turned grim. Claire, who stood at the side, looked around the room and instantly felt weak.
The most terrifying situation was seeing your comrades get killed one after another, but the shooter still spared your life.

This kind of stress was not something someone could take easily.
You never knew when death would come for you. You could die the very next second.
At that moment, no one dared to go up to my dad. Under pressure from the others, Claire finally pushed herself to walk up to him.
"How are you, sir? Are you Jake's dad? You didn't notice us earlier. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. I'm your daughter-in-law. Do you recognize me?"

My dad heard her. He looked at her and said, "What is there to say to a dead woman?"
Before this, Claire would only presume she was done for. After she had asked, she knew she was doomed.
My arrogant brother-in-law rushed forward to my dad and apologized. He even smashed two wine bottles onto the ground and knelt on top of the shattered glass.
"Uncle, I was rude and arrogant. I offended Jake. It was all my fault. I deserve to die. Please spare my life."
"Are you telling me what to do? Who gives you the right?" My dad asked nonchalantly. Feeling intimidated, my brother-in-law bowed his head and kept it lowered.
"Wahh…" a baby's cry came through. My dad frowned and turned toward it.
After thinking for a few seconds, he quickly snapped his fingers. Suddenly, a group of bodyguards rushed in.
"Mr. Warren, what's your order?"
"Please find a good family for this baby. Killing a baby is beneath us."
"Yes, Mr. Warren."
I was shocked. I didn't expect this old man to have changed his ways. If this were the past, he would've stirred things up until nothing was left intact.
I never thought he'd give in so easily this time.
I realized I was wrong very soon after. My dad raised his hand and called in another bodyguard. Facing Claire and her family, he said, "I want everyone and everything related to this baby gone."
Claire and her family were so terrified that they froze.
"Mr. Warren, even though there has been a misunderstanding, I don't think we deserve to die!"
Claire still wanted to defend herself, but Anson let out a creepy smile.
"It's just like what my son said before. Please go and speak with my wife."
Claire immediately turned pale. The clock was ticking, and she knew her death was imminent.
An icy voice startled Anson off his seat.
"Anson Warren! If your eyes are of no use, you could feed them to the dogs."
