The doctor shot him a look,about to retort,but Sophia pushed him aside,signing the form.
"Doctor,ignore him.He's delusional."
"As long as she's safe,the baby doesn't matter."
The doctor took the form and entered the operating room,ignoring Ethan.
Ethan grabbed Sophia's arm,frantic,"How can you decide to lose the child?You know how long we've wanted one!"
Sophia kicked his knee,then slapped his face.
"How?Because you spent Valentine's with your sweetheart,not her.Because you hit her."
"Ethan Caldwell,she'd better be fine,or I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life!"
Ethan opened his mouth to explain but said nothing in the end.
When I was wheeled out from surgery,my mom was there,looking at me sadness written all over her face.
"Claire,you've suffered."
Seeing my worried parents,I suddenly felt so exhausted.
"Mom,I missed you so much..."
Tears fell,and she wiped them gently.
My dad's eyes were red,adjusting my blanket before saying,"Divorce.We're done with him!"
I nodded,but a voice came from the door.
"Mom,Dad,I know I was wrong,but I really can't divorce Claire."
"I can't lose her."
Ethan's eyes were red with tears on his face.
Ignoring my parents,he knelt by my bed.
"Claire,I'm truly sorry."
"Hit me,curse me,do anything you like—just don't divorce me."
I sneered,mocking,"Ethan,we're definitely divorcing."
"I'm stepping aside for Lila.Shouldn't you be thrilled?"
Each word has his face paler.
After a long pause,he stammered,"Claire,I love you."
"I had reasons..."
I laughed bitterly,snapping,"Valentine's with your sweetheart is love for me?Smashing a vase on my head is love for me?"
"Ethan,your love is disgusting."
Guilt flooded his face.He reached for my hand but pulled back.
"Claire,nothing happened between Lila and I."
"I know you're upset,but I'll keep my distance from her from mow on."
"Please,don't divorce me."
"Think of our journey together,from college to now—it wasn't easy."
I ignored him,handing him the divorce papers.
"Ethan,you know this wasn't easy."
"But look how you treated me.As for Lila,whether things are innocent between you two or not—I don't care."
He tried to speak,but my dad exploded.
"Get out!We don't need a son-in-law like you!"
