Seeing my determination to divorce him,Jack's eyes dimmed. He pleaded,"Grace, can you give me one more chance?"
"I will atone for my sins to Mom."
I looked at him in disgust."Jack, saying these things now that she's long gone, what's the point?"

"If you really feel remorse, sign the divorce agreement, and we can part ways amicably and never see each other again."
He looked desperate, and the smile that played at the corner of his mouth was uglier than a cry.
"I understand."
His hand holding the pen was shaking, and it took him a full half-hour to write just two words.
After handing the agreement to me,he collapsed onto the table, motionless,as if he had used up all his strength.
I took the document and scribbled my name down without a moment’s hesitation.

"It's time for you to leave."
I stared at him coldly.
Jack slowly got to his feet and shuffled reluctantly towards the door.
He stood there for a moment and then smiled bitterly."Grace, where is Mom buried? Please, can you tell me?I really miss her..."

I gave him a firm shove out the door."No way.Jack,I won’t let you to desecrate her resting place."
The door closed, obliterating from view that detestable face.I finally unclenched the fist I had been clenching.
If I stayed any longer,I was afraid I would slap him.
Jack stood outside the door for a long time before finally leaving.
I didn't see him for a long time.
My life gradually got back on track.
My mother's death hit me hard.
I had to put more energy into my work to alleviate the grief of losing a loved one.
Once, when I went to the hospital for a physical examination,a familiar doctor told me that Jack had been fired by the hospital because of his unprofessional conduct as a doctor, after being complained about by a former patient.
I didn't feel anything at all.
I smiled and chatted for a while before going back.
On the way,I stopped by the store to pick up a package. When I came out,I saw him.
And Lily.
They were arguing.
There were a plenty of onlookers.
On a whim,I also went over.
Jack must have been living a hard life.Just two months had passed, and he looked exhausted.Wrinkles had crept across his once-angular face, making him look more than ten years older.
He pointed at Lily's bulging belly and shouted angrily,"You actually lied to me!Didn't you say you took precautions? Then why are you pregnant?"
Lily was crying pitifully."Jack,I don't know. But this child must be yours. You have to take responsibility."
Jack scoffed at her,his eyes full of disgust."Who knows?Maybe it's someone else's child. After all, you're so promiscuous.Any man can just beckon, and you'll throw yourself at him."
Lily's eyes widened, and she wailed,"You bastard! You have the guts to do it but not the guts to admit it!"
Jack's face darkened."Watch your mouth."
At this moment,Jack was completely different from his usual cold and aloof self. His whole body was radiating hostility, and he looked rather intimidating.
Lily was so scared that her face turned pale, and she trembled all over, but she didn't dare to step forward. She could only run away while crying.
The onlookers were talking among themselves.
"Isn't that Doctor Jack from our city hospital? He looks so upright, but it turns out his private life is a mess too."
"What Doctor Jack? He's already been fired.I heard he's in debt to the tune of hundreds of thousands of yuan and is working as a waiter in a bar now!"
"There's always a reason why a pitiful person is in a pitiful state.I heard he cheated on his wife before. That's the woman over there. He drove his adoptive mother to death."
"Tsk,tsk.Any woman who marries such a man will have bad luck for eight lifetimes!"
Jack saw me in the crowd at a glance.Probably because the things they were saying were too harsh, his face paled to ash,and he covered his face and skulked away.
