Wasn't my mother good enough to him?
Jack,do you have a heart of stone?
It was only at this moment that I suddenly realized that some people were thankless scoundrels who could never be satisfied.
Thinking that I had loved him for more than ten years,I only felt despair.
Jack didn't like me from the start.
We grew up together. When he was in college,he fell in love with Lily.I could only bury my feelings deep in my heart and secretly keep tabs on him.
It wasn't until after graduation that he and Lily were separated by work and had frequent arguments, eventually resulting in their breakup.
During that time,Jack suffered from depression. He drank every day,got plastered, and even tried to commit suicide. It was me who stood by his side.
One night, when he was drunk,he hugged me tightly and wouldn't let go."Grace,do you like me?"
My ears turned pink, and I didn't deny it.
He kissed me."Then let's be together."
That night,my heart was thumping more wildly than ever before.
We got married soon after.
In fact,I'd almost forgotten.
After Jack and I got married,we did have a period of happy, cozy days.
Until the third year, when Lily came back from afar.
He went to pick her up without telling me.
What Jack didn't know was that that night, while I was searching for him,I almost got hit by a truck.
I almost died.
I dragged my limping gait home and waited from dusk till dawn for him to return.
He didn't even inquire about my wounds,as if he didn't see them at all.
That's when I knew that Lily had always been in Jack's heart.
He just didn't dare to be too obvious out of deference to my feelings.
It wasn't until he cause my mother’s death that I finally saw the truth.
Jack only manipulated us like pawns. He was a selfish person out and out.
The next morning, when I came out of the room holding the urn,I saw Jack still kneeling on the floor.
Just one night had passed, and he looked considerably more haggard.
His eyes were red and swollen, his hair was disheveled, and his face was pallid as a wraith.
When he saw me,he tried to stand up,but because he had been kneeling for too long, his legs were dead-numb.He teetered and fell to the ground again.
Seeing me come out with the urn,he knew that I was going to bury my mother.
Jack crawled over desperately and hugged my pant legs, not letting go."Grace, can you take me with you?I want to see Mom..."
I pulled his hands away and walked out the door without mercy.
When I arrived at the place I had agreed upon with the real-estate agent,I looked around. The place was surrounded by verdant mountains and crystalline waters, the air was fresh, and the environment was truly idyllic.
My mother would always say that although big cities were thriving, they were too noisy. When she died, she wanted to be buried in the mountains so that she could enjoy the picturesque scenery.
My mother had spent her entire life scheming for us and had never traveled far.
I thought she would be happy living here.
I buried my mother there.
When I got home,Jack was still sitting on the floor in a stupor, with vacant eyes, not knowing what he was thinking.
When he saw me come back, his eyes moved slightly."Grace,I..."
I flung the divorce agreement from the cabinet at him."Sign it."
Now,all that remained between us was this divorce.
He clutched desperately the document, his fingertips turning slightly white from the strenuous grip.
Jack wore a bitter expression,"Grace,Mom once said that she hoped we could be together forever.Have you forgotten?"
I said in disgust,"You yourself said it was in the past. Now my mother is dead."
"Sign the papers quickly.Don't force me to go to court."
