Chapter 177
1570words
I groaned.
Just how long will we do this?
Due to the Alpha king's orders, we were sent to investigate some information about the Mist territory. Syrena was with me as we sat idly at a small table in a cafe in the human city.
It was an impossible mission for vampires are the hardest ones to locate among other species. Especially after they just launched those simultaneous attacks in front of us.
I lifted the cup on the table, sipping it impatiently. "We've been doing this for three days, still haven't seen anyone suspicious?"
As i said, it's hard tracking a vampire, their more cunning in hiding their identities than us so it's impossible to find them without any sort of method.
That's why Syrena is with me right now, she has some kind of thing that enables her to sense a vampire.
"Shh! i told you to keep your voice down, what if they catch us before we do?" She says in a whisper, glaring at me while she hid behind the cafe's menu book.
Pft.
I grabbed the menu, yanking it away from her hands, "We'll get more caught if you keep acting suspicious witch."
She coughs uncomfortably, "How rude, are you belittling the abilities of my masking potion? No one will sense our real identities, not even vampires."
"Look i'm not underestimating any of your abilities, i'm just saying you might give yourself out if you keep acting like that."
"Acting like what?"
I chuckled, looking at her from up to down, "Before that, i think the way you dress is more suspicious."
She was wearing the usual medieval gown that she usually wears on a usual basis. I mean who wouldn't be suspicious in her sense of style? Even the human is glancing her way just because of her dress.
"This is vintage."
"Of course," I replied in a sarcastic tone, rolling my eyes. "You know what, let's just wrap this up okay? we've been doing this everyday yet we can't see a single vampire."
It's true that we've received reports that there were some vampire sighting around this area, yet that information was a week before the attack. Who knows if they have already moved out to avoid trouble with us.
I sighed, we actually knew that but we had no choice since that was the only lead we have as of the moment.
"You're very impatient. It's natural that vampires don't show up frequently. We've just started doing this after 3 days, it's not even enough time to see one." She says while glancing around us.
Not enough? we've been sitting here for almost 8 hours a day!
I groaned in annoyance, "The Alpha king is insane, did he actually think we can find the location of the Mist territory in the book?"
This is frustrating, the mission was impossible from the start yet just because we had this witch, the alpha king pushed the plan through. I don't even know if he's doing this with logic in his mind or he's just that desperate to find her.
"We will find her," She firmly says.
"How can you be so sure?"
"It's because as i told you, i have a little trick to find them look at this." She waves her hand, a strand of hair appearing on her palms.
I raised an eyebrow, puzzled.
"This is a pureblood's hair from our collection. With this, i could sense any vampire within a certain range." She smirks, raising her eyebrow repeatedly.
"Even if you have that, if they don't appear what's the use!" I said, burying my face at the table.
Ugh, i should be at the pack helping the Alpha king with the pack's business right now. That's why i shouldn't be wasting time here with a witch. I facepalmed myself, trying my best to calm my impatient self to stabilize.
"Look's like someone heard your prayers," She chuckles evilly.
I sat up immediately, looking at the direction where she was evilly looking at. Once i saw the guy, i quickly frowned. "Are you kidding me? does he even look like a vampire to you? he's tan."
He was about 6ft tall, with a fit body, and his eyes weirdly vibrant as blue. There were a few men behind him that were more like a vampire. But it still didn't convince me. Since, No matter how you look at him, there's no way he's a vampire. Vampires possess pale skin right? He's far from that.
She laughs, "Do not judge a book by its cover Beta Jaxon, has no one ever told you that?"
She then blew the strand of hair on her palms. I gulped, the strand flying towards the guy slowly, i wondered what was the witch thinking that she aimed for the vampire.
I nudged her, "What are you doing? are you attacking now? you should've told! what if your plan fails?"
"Who says i'm attacking?" She smirks, "We're gonna sit it down and talk."
WHAT.
WHAT DID I JUST HEAR.
"A-Are you kidding?" My jaw drops.
She points towards the guy's direction, "Do i look like i'm kidding? look at him."
I turned towards the guy once again, this time he was now looking back at us that it made me jolt up a bit from my seating. It wasn't that i was scared, but it was really weird that Syrena suspects the guy for being a vampire.
What's more unexpected was that as soon as he sees us, he turns his back to his friends before going alone towards our spot.
He gives a stern glare towards Syrena.
"What are you doing here? Syrena."
Wait.
What?! They know each other?!
I gasped, looking at them back and forth.
Syrena smirks, "Oh nothing, it must be my lucky day that it's you that we have to encounter, huh? Ramuel."
The Ramuel guy groans, he quickly sat by the chair beside us. When his eyes turned from blue to red, that's when i realized that he was really a vampire.
I sat frozen on my seat. I didn't know what to do so i just let them talk with each other.
"Do you know what you're doing?" He says in a low angry voice.
"How about you? do you know what we're doing?" She smiles, mocking him.
"Cut the bullshit! We're in the middle of starting a war, yet you're here brazenly talking to me. If you're trying to ask something from me again then i guess i can't help you." He stands up.
But Syrena stops her, grabbing his wrist. "Calm down, we haven't seen each other for a while, why are you so eager to leave?"
His eyebrow furrowed. "Do you even hear yourself? why would i concern myself with you?"
Ok, what the shit is happening. Did they have some kind of dramatic past? Their relationship is not that simple it seems.
"We don't have time, I need your help."
That's when the vampire snapped.
"Again?! how many times do i have to do your favors!" Ramuel spats angrily, kicking the table down so we had no choice but to stand abruptly from the chaos.
I glanced behind him and saw his men were watching us carefully.
I sighed, "Can you please calm down? we're in the human city, if you cause too much trouble they'll-"
Out of nowhere, he waves his hand in the air.
I gasped when i saw how the surrounding stop moving all of a sudden, anything was stopped except from the three of us and the few men with him. What just happened startled me, it was frightening to the point that i almost shifted into my wolf.
"What the hell?!" I yelled, "Did you do that?"
Ramuel smirks at me, "What? first time seeing a pureblood? aren't you adorable?"
"What?" I growled.
Syrena raises a hand in front of me, blocking me from stepping any further. "I told you, we're not here to attack anyone."
Is this witch insane?!
I leaned towards her ear, "But alpha king's order is to drag a vampire with us?"
"Drag us?" Ramuel laughs hysterically upon hearing our conversation. "The Alpha king sure does whatever he wants. Isn't that gratifying Syrena? you have a fool for a king, even without me you're doomed just like the prophecy foretold."
My eyes turned towards her, her face scowling, she then let out a breath of disbelief. "You're still holding grudges?"
"Who wouldn't?" He took steps closer to her. "After all those promises, you still betrayed me."
Syrena just gives out a blank expression. "I have no time to talk about the past with you, the reason i'm approaching you for help is that we don't have that much time, if you don't want to help, let me just talk to the men you brought with yo-"
"Syrena!" He shouts, he grips her shoulders, making her yelp a bit from the pain. "Why are you doing this!? you're walking into the path the prophecy said! if you didn't disobey me things wouldn't have progressed this far!"
I don't know why, but at that time, i had the urge to help her since things were already getting out of hand. I strode towards their standing and grabbed his forearm, tightly.
When i noticed a tear falling from Syrena, i finally lost it.
"Let her go you fucking leech!"
