He looked exhausted.
Although i knew that the Alpha King seldomly get tired, it was the first time for me to actually see it in person. He looked tired not just physically but also mentally. Anyone could've noticed it if you stare at his dead eyes right now.
It was clear that his mind was going blank due to the sadness that he couldn't withstand.
"There is no need to pity me." He says in a low voice, wiping his tears aggressively. "A person like me doesn't deserve to feel sad right now."
I gulped.
What is he saying that he doesn't deserve it? he isn't even aware that everything that was happening right now was because Christal kept on changing directions. Such an unstable mind of luna Christal is the reason why we're in this situation right now.
I was about to voice out my opinion of it wasn't for Beta Jaxon saying it first. "Alpha King Zyrus, that is not true. You've done your best to keep her beside you. Forgive me for saying this, but it's her who keeps on insisting to run away from you. if she would have just accepted you as her mate then all of this has never happened at all."
I frowned, he was right.
There was no doubt that Christal has gone too far. But who could blame her? She's just a broken werewolf with no home right now.
{"I'm going too far? Why would i even think of such a trivial matter? i don't have anyone. I don't have a family nor a mate, i don't even have you who's someone who serves my mate. So why am i the one who's the bad guy here? I've endured everything till now, so you can't blame me for doing this."}
My chest tightened as i recalled her words.
"So what do you want me to do? Give her up?" The Alpha King's expression turns, his forehead knitting in anger.
I frowned, fully aware that the Alpha King will no way in hell give her up, not right now when he just broke the mind seal he was in. His eyes were filled with despair.. and determination to get her back.
So what is this beta saying?
Surprisingly though, Beta Jaxon just shook his head.
"Alpha King, i'm not saying you to give her up. I'm fully aware that our luna has her own reasons too. But i suddenly started to realize something for a meanwhile now." He closes his eyes, his chest nervously rising up and down.
"What is it?"
"This is no longer a personal matter Alpha King. The pack's situation is very dangerous as we know it now. I think it is not very wise to resort to any dangerous behavior that could repeat the same mistake a hundred years ago."
My eyes widened, realizing that he was talking about the very first Alpha King.
Alpha King Yasha.
"She's my mate! how could i just leave her there with a devil?!" Alpha King Zyrus lowly growls, his eyes started to darken.
The Alpha King tried leaving the cell, obviously he was planning to go after Christal, but beta Jaxon just blocks his path.
"Alpha King! Calm yourself down! You can't be irrational int times like this-"
He got punched right on the face, his back slamming on the wall behind him, i gasped in shock. Even though the alpha king is already throwing daggers at him just by glaring at him, he still didn't stop until he said everything he wanted to say.
He spits out blood before glaring at the Alpha King.
"We're your family Alpha King! Please don't forget that you hold the lives of thousands within your pack. If you rebel all alone against everyone, do you know what will happen to the citizens that we worked so hard to stabilize after the ongoing years of wars?" Beta Jaxon said firmly, not backing down. "Everyone will die just because you couldn't control yourself!"
Damn, he was so right, and even the Alpha King knew that too.
I could tell in an instant that the Alpha King felt guilty for venting out on his beta who just tried to calm him down.
Stepping back, he turns away from him after he frowned at the sight. "I.. I wanted to expose the people who tried to harm her, so that she might feel somewhat indebted to me if she knew. Look at me, i'm even pathetically torturing a useless person in this very cage right now. I haven't even started asking questions..just what the hell am i doing?
He leans on the wall, his face scrunching in despair. "You were stopping me right now because you think i'll go to her? No."
He shook his head, suddenly laughing bitterly out of nowhere. "How could i even face her? I've hurt her, tried to kill her, in the end, i couldn't even properly protect her. This is the shittiest feeling i've ever felt in my whole life. Who says an alpha king is perfect? i can't even keep a white wolf beside me."
There it is again, why is it that they always separate in bad circumstances? There is always a thing that would happen whenever they got too close to each other.
As if fate was playing with them.
My eyes widened.
That's it! It's possible that everything that happened was intentional! Since they both had their terrible past, something must've caused it all right from the start!
If i start with this thought, i can understand why luna Christal said all those things.
"Alpha King! if you allow me. Allow me to enter your family's personal library, there is something about the repeating occurrences in the past months that seemed too suspicious to be ignored. It is not normal that two people who are fated to one another to always face an unjustifiable obstacle! There is also something that luna Christal have told me before she left. It is something about a curse!"
As things just started to get heavier, Brianna just had to interfere in the conversation, her laugh echoing around the cell as she continued nonchalantly before the guy who almost killed him.
"The Moon Goddess must be on my side, if i knew that there's this something like a curse between you two fucking lovebirds, then i wouldn't have come here like some idiot. I could have just killed myself!" She laughs, the pain making her mad.
Her wounds were still sizzling hot from her body that was whipped with a potent silver that the Alpha King used against her.
"Tch," The Alpha King stood up, regaining his usual energy again.
He glares towards Brianna.
"Before we talk about something like that Syrena. I think it's better if you handle this situation from here on."
My eyebrow raised in confusion. "Pardon? what can i do in this.. situation?" My face scrunched up from her bad smell.
The Alpha King crosses his arms. "Since Brianna refuses to say anything, get a group of witches to extort some useful memories inside her mind,"
Brianna screams, the chains around her body making a loud noise as she tried to forcefully crawl her way towards the Alpha King. She yelled so much that her voice was starting to break.
"YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE! DON'T YOU DARE LOOK INTO MY MEMORIES! I'LL CURSE YOU! I'LL CURSE YOU TOO!"
"This again?" Alpha King Zyrus says, irked. "What did i tell you? i told you if you want to curse me, then you will have to line up."
"YOU ARE A SON OF A BITCH! A HEARTLESS MURDERER! IT'S NO WONDER YOU'RE SUFFERING FROM A CURSE! I WISH FOR A THOUSA- NO! A MILLION- TRILLON TIMES THAT YOU NEVER FIND HAPPINESS WITH THAT WHITE WOLF BITCH!"
Just like that, the Alpha King snapped.
He made his way towards her, and ripped her right arm away from her. His eyes, not a pint of emotion inside. He watched how Brianna cried endlessly from her amputated limb, continuously cursing him like a madwoman.
"Aghh!!!" Brianna shrieks in pain.
Throwing the arm away, he leans towards her pathetic-looking face.
"You can curse me all you want," He grabs her hair, her sobs worsening. "But don't you ever use that filthy mouth of yours to pertain to my mate."
I thought she'll go crazy again. But unexpectedly, she nods as her body continued to tremble in fear. I'm not even sure if she understood him, she just kept nodding to herself while her blood dangerously dripped from her amputated arm.
Finally, after an awkward silence, she stops nodding. Slowly turning her head towards the Alpha King.
"W-Why? just.. just why did you have to kill him?" She asks, her voice breaking. "You're a monster. How can you possibly understand the feeling of losing a mate? Do you even have a heart? i doubt it."
Her voice was so quiet and soft.. as if she was starting to drift away.
No.
We still haven't used her enough!
"Alpha King! we can't let her die like this! i still have to extort her memori-"
He stops me, shielding a hand between me and the woman. I don't know why he suddenly blocked me from coming towards her, but what shocked me was the fact that he was looking at her with a pained expression, his eyebrow furrowed.
Is he pitying her?!
She coughs up blood, her attention towards the ground in front of her, she let out her one last word before her body finally gives out.
She smiles. "Finally."
