Chapter 179

With a mask on my face and a cover gown on my body, I shakingly walked inside the ICU room with anxiousness.
There, lying on the bed, was Kylian. His face was pale, and there was a bandage on his shoulder and body. IV fluid and other things were hooked in his veins, and the only thing that could be heard inside was the beeping of machines monitoring his vital signs.
But despite his evident body weakness right now, it wouldn’t go unnoticed his handsome features that, unsurprisingly, could still make my heart beat fast even in such a situation.
Pulling one of the rolling chairs not far from the bed, I sat beside him and stared at him for a while. I pursed my lips, trying my best not to bawl out at this moment.
“Oh please…” I subconsciously whispered as I raised my hand, gently stroking his facial features and fixing his hair.
In the end… I failed.
The tears welled up in the corner of my eyes and started streaming down my cheeks.
Both my hands slid down to his, and I held it so tight as if my whole life depended on it. I kissed his hand and wholeheartedly begged like he could hear me: “Please, Kylian. Please wake up.”
Staring at him, I sniffed and continued, “Just wake, and I swear to Moon Goddess that I’ll be with you again. We’ll be back to how happy we were before Flora came into our lives. I love you, Kylian. I did before, and I guess I’ll always will.”
I took another sniff as more tears streamed down my face. Suddenly, I felt so weak and exhausted that my head involuntarily fell on his hand.
My chest tightened. “Please wake up. I need you… Our pup needs you…”
My eyelids started to get heavy and probably already swollen from all the crying.
“Della…” Trisha called out.
“Hmmm?”
“Come on, Della. Your body will eventually give up after all that fighting, no meal, and no sleep. I know you worry, and so do I. But don’t forget our pup in our belly. You have to take a rest.”
I frantically shook my head. “No, I’ll stay with him. I don’t want to leave him alone here. What if he woke up and found no one beside him?”
Maybe it was because I was too sad, I didn't feel hungry at all.
I rubbed my belly gently. Our puppy seemed to know that daddy was in great danger, it lay quietly.
“You’ll be fine, I know it,” I whispered as my eyelids got heavier until I fell into a quick nap.
“Luna… Luna…” I woke up to the sound of the voice of one of the hospital personnel.
Jolted, I immediately stood up and asked in panic, “Is he alright? Is something wrong?”
I looked back at Kylian and felt relieved upon seeing his vitals on the monitor as normal.
“Oh no, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you, Luna. I just want to say that we are going to bring him to the VIP room now. Alpha might feell more comfortable there.”
I sighed and smiled. “Thank you so much.”
“It’s our duty. Take care, Luna.” The personnel said and left.
Minutes later, orderlys helped us transfer him to the VIP room, which looked like a suite from a five-star hotel.
Unlike what Trisha wanted, I couldn’t bring myself to take a rest. I occasionally pace around the room or have wet swabs on Kylian’s lips to prevent it from chapping.
The time tragedically passed by so slowly, tormenting me with anxiety. Most of the time, I’d just stay in the chair beside him and hold his hand for support, not daring to leave him for a second.
I fear that if I leave, I’ll hear bad news, which I know I won’t be able to handle.
Looking up at the clock on the wall above his headboard, my chin quivered, and my chest became heavier when I saw that it was already two o’clock in the afternoon—three hours left before the 72-hour deadline Lucas had given me.
I wiped the rolling tears on my face repeatedly, which kept coming up as I stared at Kylian, whose condition remained the same. There’s still no sign of him waking up, not even a small movement from his finger.
“Please… Please… Come back to me, Kylian. You can do this, Babe…” I whispered, saying over and over again. I’m not sure if he could hear me, but I could only wish that his wolf did and they’d fight harder to survive.
My chest rose and fell as my eyes fell back to that god-forsaken clock whose hand torments me at its every movement, making me more desperate and anxious at every passing second.
A knock on the door took my attention away from it. Finally… because the mere sight of it was killing me.
Wiping my tears dry with my hand and fixing my clothes, I sat up straight and said in a calm voice. “Come in.”
The door opened, and it revealed Henry was looking very serious. He discreetly closed the door and took a few steps forward.
With a clenched jaw and sorrowful glint in his eyes, he cleared his throat and spoke in a choking voice, “I… I hope you consider my previous proposal.”
I knew what he was talking about. He wanted me to announce my pregnancy with Kylian’s child as soon as possible as a Plan B in case Kylian didn’t make it.
Damn, that felt so bitter to think of.
I stared at him blankly. Holding Kylian’s hand tightly, I stared at the clock with desperation and replied to Henry with gritted teeth, “He’ll wake up. I know he will.”
When I said this, my heart was shaking because I didn't know what would happen in the future. Especially now that there were only three hours left, but Kylian didn't make any movement.
If it weren't for his weak breathing, I would even doubt that he has...
No! He can’t! Kylian must not die like this!
He was such a proud and powerful Alpha, how could he die so young!
He hasn’t even gotten to meet our puppy yet…
“Please, Luna…” Henry petted my shoulder and begged, “I need you to think properly. It pains me as well, but you know how Sir Luke is. We can’t let him be back to being the Alpha. That power will kill the pack.”
I bit the side of my cheek, remaining silent.
Instead of answering him, I stood and sat on the bed to be closer to Kylian. I desperately and hopefully stared at his closed eyes and used every strength my wolf and I had to mind-link him.
“Kylian! Kylian, I need you to wake up, Babe. I need you with me. I love you. You hear me? So weak up! Wake up and say it back to me like you always do! Wake up!”
Realizing that I had no intention of replying, Henry sighed and stood at the side, waiting for Kylian just like me.
Seconds and minutes passed until an hour later went by again…
“Two hours left, Kylian. Please…” I said, hugging his torso gently, ensuring I was not nicking any of the lines connected to him.
I was in that position when a commotion suddenly occurred. I sat upright abruptly and looked at Henry, who was also staring at me with the same emotion—worry.
A series of heavy footsteps echoed from the corridor, and before we could open the door, it was forcefully pushed open, creating a loud banging, shocking sound.
It scared both Henry and I, immediately making us stand in a protective stance in front of Kylian’s bed as numerous soldiers lined up inside. Waking from the back, Luke’s arrogant and monstrous face came into view.
What’s more infuriating was the fact that I caught a glimpse of two soldiers in his back who were carrying a coffin and slowly putting it down in the corridor.
What the fuck!
The atmosphere immediately became heavier as a tense demeanor filled the air.
Fuming mad, I pointed at the coffin behind him and shouted, “What do you mean by that?”
