Chapter 177

“Here, have this first. You look a bit… overwhelmed.” Lucas handed me a glass of warm milk before sitting on the opposite seat from me.
We went to the cafe on the ground floor of the hospital. Currently, there were not many people there, and we sat at the corner table of the room.
I held it between my hands, warming my numb body.
“Take a sip, at least. You need to think of the life in your tummy – your pup.” Leaning closer, he added, “Remember, if anything happens to Kylian, your pup will be the future heir of the Dark Moon Pack.”
My heart twitched with unbearable pain, tightening my hold on the glass.
“Careful!” Lucas reminded.
“Sorry,” I whispered, realizing that I was near to breaking the glass.
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I raised the glass onto my lips and slowly drank it to half. Only then did I feel my stomach grumble.
Recalling what happened before the chaos occurred, I only realized that I hadn’t eaten since the afternoon.
Playing with the mouth of my glass, circling it with my finger, I asked, “Can Kylian… still wake up?”
Asking those words was like knives in my heart.
Lucas was the most powerful being I knew and the biggest hope I have right now. Low-key, I was afraid that he’d tell me Kylian would die… because then I’d lose more hope.
After all, so far, the prophecy he had told me back then was gradually happening.
I lowered my right hand and caressed my stomach. As he said before, I was really pregnant. So, he probably knew whether or not Kylian would wake up.
Lucas let out a gentle smile and shook his head. “Princess Della, don’t get it confused. I’m a wizard, not a god.”
I furrowed my eyebrows. It wasn’t what I meant. “But you’re prophecies…”
“Is based on divination results, just as in Kylian’s situation. I could predict, but there’s always an individual choice. What I know, though, is that there’s a high possibility of him waking up,” he explained to me.
Hearing that… even if it was just a probability, I was able to sigh in relief. Though not completely, at least my hope increased.
My clenching heart loosened a little, and my trembling body eased more.
“What?” I asked, feeling the burning gaze Lucas was throwing in my direction, making me incredibly awkward and anxious at the same time.
With him being so powerful, I couldn’t help but think that there’s always a hidden meaning in his every action.
After a moment's hesitation and a long look at me, he asked another question that made my heart tremble. “If Alpha Kylian wakes up, what choice will you make, Princess?”
Choice?
Where is the choice to begin with? Thinking about it now, I don’t think I had any other choice before. Then and now, it always had been Kylian.
Through the difficulties we encountered together, I got tired—too exhausted to go on… a moment when giving up was the less painful choice. But a mate—fated or chosen, there’s only one mate of mine, and that’s him.
But…
Would I really be willing to get back to him?
Flashback to how he saved me earlier and how I felt his unconscious body fall on mine. I remembered the indescribable fear that radiated all over me.
The moment the scent of his blood reached my nostril and the time I felt his blood on my fingers, that was the moment I lost all rationality. If he died then, I would not want to live any longer, too.
Because whether I accept it or not, I still love him. I’m still unconditionally in love with him. And I don’t think even my fated mate from Lucas’ prophecy could outshine my love for Kylian.
After all, Lucas said it himself; he’s not God. He could predict, but each individual still made his or her own choices.
With a newfound determination, I looked up with confidence and firmly replied to Lucas, “I will forgive him. I’ll forgive Kylian for every mistake he made that hurt me.”
Lucas narrowed his eyes and calmly said, “And? Will that suffice?”
I nodded without hesitation. “It would. We love each other so much. We’ll forget the past that caused us pain. We’ll get back to each other. I’ll get back with him.”
Lucas went silent as his thumb played with the ring on his index finger. It had a moving chain in the middle of the ring, which he was rolling while staring at me in a daze.
After a few moments, his thumb froze, and he said solemnly, “I fear that things won’t go as well as you think they will.”
“Why–”
“I could feel it. Your fated mate is already near… You’ll meet him soon.” He looked around for a while, contemplating for a moment before continuing, “I am a wizard of Dark Moon Pack, but… you are the Lycan Princess – the heir of the entire kingdom.”
My mate? He’s here? Where? Who was he? Would he… Many questions and confusion rushed into me as I heard the biggest conflict coming into my life.
“What are you trying to say?” I asked with furrowed eyebrows, getting anxious by his words.
“Despite which pack I am serving, it’s common knowledge that the kingdom leads all packs. And you, as the princess and the heir, must have a stable and harmonious relationship. Only then could you lead the kingdom in peace and ease… And that’s something only your fated mate can do.”
“Do you mean–”
Once again, he didn’t give me the time to continue.
“I hope you consider my words carefully, Princess Della.”
From the start to the beginning, he had been emphasizing that I was the princess. That I had the responsibility heavier than the most. Did that mean that I couldn’t have much freedom in my choices either?
I am restricted by the obligations weighing on my shoulders… I should think twice about my choices before I make any decisions.
But did that also mean sacrificing my own love for the greater peace? Could I be that selfless?
I fisted my hands tightly and firmly shook my head. With determination, I muttered, “No matter what, this time, I’ll never leave him again. I won’t leave Kylian.”
What’s all my training since childhood to be the most powerful Lycan if I couldn’t even be strong enough to make my own choices?
“There’s no one else more suitable to be with me, to be my husband, and to be the father of my child but Kylian.” I stared at Lucas before I continued solemnly, “No one will love me more than he would.”
He raised his eyebrow. “How can you be so sure that no one can love you more than he does?”
Momentarily, that made me froze for a moment. But then, I replied, “He’s willing to die for me. I don’t think anyone else in this world would sacrifice that much for me.
Suddenly, Lucas smiled. With a mysterious glint in his eyes, he said, “The most important day of your life is about to come. Remember to wear the necklace I gave you. It can save the person you love the most in a critical situation.”
