Chapter 174

“Alpha.”
I heard numerous members greeting me, but I kept running as if my life depended on it because it was.
“Move it!” I shouted, pushing everyone who blocked my path aside.
My feet dipped on the ground of the forest as twigs and leaves cut on my bare arms, but I couldn’t care less. I had to run as fast as I could and hope that she was still alive when I got there.
I could feel through our bond that she was starting to get weak.
Please wait for me. I’m coming, Della. I’m coming. I kept saying those words in my mind as I ran. I couldn’t imagine my life without her… If something happens to her, I’ll…
I couldn’t even think about it.
As soon as I arrived at the border, I froze. The smell of blood was not only strong but what was in front of me was a pool of it together with scattered dead bodies of the members of the Crimson Pack in both werewolf and human forms.
The border guards were panting as they used spears to check if everyone was indeed dead.
There were some casualties on our part, but it wasn’t that much. Some were only beaten and bruised or had injuries that would heal with time.
If that’s how serious the situation was here, then… “Della!”
I strode past the bodies, blood, and dirt as I went straight to the inspection and laboratory room where Della said she was.
My heart trembled terribly knowing that Luke was most likely responsible for the tragic happening today.
“Alpha! You’re here!”
“Please! Save Luna Della!”
“She saved us! But she hasn’t come out yet!” Della saved them? I was slightly surprised. How could she do that as an omega?
The pleading of the laboratory personnel greeted me as they stumbled on the side, looking fearful and exhausted.
After all, they were the nerds of the packs and weren’t trained to fight, although that doesn't make them any less important.
I nodded. “Stay on the side. Don’t worry.” I tried to assure them when even I myself were sweating in cold fear.
Seeing shadows of commotion inside the inspection room, I kicked the door open, utterly shocked by the scene before me.
All the high-ranking soldiers of the Crimson Pack soldiers were on the ground, dead or severely injured.
In the middle of the room was a familiar back of Della. She stood there, panting and tired, with blood stains on her dress and messy hair, but she was almost unscarred.
My jaw dropped, dumbfounded. She actually defeated them…
About fifteen of them were on the ground, all well-trained, merciless soldiers of a notorious pack. Even my Gamma couldn’t possibly win against that many alone.
My heart pounded hard and fast inside my chest as realization hit me. Was I underestimating her all along? But… How can an omega do such a thing? No… Are they even capable to begin with?
Staring at her while I stood frozen in there, catching my breath, I asked silently, “Who are you, Della?”
“Della…” I whispered, and she turned around and raised her head to look at me.
Our eyes met, and suddenly, relief filled my heart. She’s fine… That’s good.
She stared at me with relief, looking so exhausted, as if she was on the verge of collapsing.
Looking around, I never felt so small and useless.
As an Alpha, I failed my duty to protect my people. And as a man and a husband, I could never avoid the fact that I miserably failed at that. It’s a mistake I could never blame others for or run from.
“You came…”
Looking intently into her eyes, I slowly took a step forward. “Della, I’m gla–”
Before I could finish my words, a despicable fat man climbed out of the cabinet behind Della. It's him! Arnold, the second in command of the Crimson Pack.
He actually hid in the cabinet and watched his men being killed by Della?
Suddenly, he raised his silver knife and fiercely glared at Della’s back, lunging to stab her. Dury and revenge were glinting in his bloodshot eyes.
No!
The moment I saw him going for her, I shouted, “Watch out!”
Running as fast as I could, I rushed and extended my arm, wrapping it around her shoulder and waist before I turned to exchange our position.
And just as in time, my time froze.
I felt a sharp blaze strike at my back, but I had never felt so relieved in my life. I smiled, knowing that it wasn’t Della who got hurt.
Holding her tight, I clenched my jaw as I felt the silver run through my veins, numbing and weakening me as it burned my body.
Because of it, I could no longer fight. All I could to was hold her as tight as I could and use my body to shield her from any harm.
Fortunately, guards rushed in time and pinned him down.
Severe pain came from my wound, and the pain caused by the silver weapon was much worse than any kind of weapon.
I took a deep breath and looked at the Della.
It was great. She was fine.
She was fine… And that was all that mattered.
Feeling the adrenaline surging out of my body, I relaxed and fell onto her.
My eyes started to get heavy… I was ready to fall asleep, but before all that, I felt how she laid me on the ground with my head on her lap. And after a long time, I saw a glint of love in her soulless eyes.
I couldn’t help but smile, suddenly feeling more alive now that I was wounded than when I was in my strongest state.
Starting feeling dizzy as my vision turned blurry and dark when the pain from my wound intensified, I grabbed hold of her as tight as I could and asked, “Do you believe now that I’m willing to sacrifice my life for you?”
She frantically shook her head, begging me not to leave her alone.
I felt relief and unimaginable joy in my heart. Finally, she’s willing to believe me and have faith in my love for her.
Letting out a bitter smile, I thought, ‘Unfortunately, I might not be able to stay with her anymore…”
But at least… I felt this joy before I died. I couldn’t ask for more.
As much as I want her to stay with me forever, how could I bear to let her die alone while longing for me after my death?
I’d rather her be with another than live the life ahead of hers alone, feeling blue.
Struggling, I fought hard to say my last words that she must heard no matter what. “If I die, I hope you find someone who loves you more than me. At least… find someone who won’t hurt you like I did…”
Feeling exhausted and weak, I felt my eyelids get heavier and heavier with every passing second. When I could no longer fight my exhaustion, I just succumbed to it.
