Chapter 125

Wow, okay…Great!
It sure took me a moment to register her news. Sure, I wished for Ralph to come here and even sent him an invite, but I didn’t actually think that Jackson would permit him to come…
At least not that fast!
After all, Ralph is the most intelligent engineer in the Kingdom. He undertook too many tasks including teaching.
“Are you for real?” I asked, couldn’t hold the excitement any longer.
Helping Kylian open his eyes was a very important matter, especially considering how stubborn and blind he was. Most of the time, he needed great measures to actually see things throughout.
“Yes, and you won’t believe how it all went so smoothly!” Fae excitedly started, “The second Ralph heard that you needed him, he ran to find Jackson. He asked permission to help you!”
“No way...” Her words made me even more curious. “Ralph probably doesn't even know me. How could he ask to help me?”
Although Ralph is famous, Jackson has always been in charge of all the Kingdom affairs including engineering and shipping. So I have never been in contact with Ralph in personal way. Why would he offer to help me?
“Although I really don’t want to say it, my bitch friend,” Fae giggled before continuing, “ But you, my princess, really underestimated yourself. All the omegas here in the kingdom dearly love you so much!”
“That’s an exaggeration, I wasn’t there long enough.” My cheeks reddened in embarrassment.”
“Oh, come on! Stop the humbleness!” she scolded. “You were always so friendly with everyone and didn’t put a wall between you and them despite your gaps in status. And remember, you fought for their right!”
“That is just…”
“Don’t tone it down, you did a huge deal for them. Della, I'm really proud of you as your friend. You fought to Jackson that they were given a day off – a time of their own. You gave them a sense of individuality, which most omegas don’t get the privilege of having.”
I smiled with sadness. I fought for that because I knew how hard it was to be an omega. Living in a small space of nothing but dust and old furniture. Eating almost the leftovers and being on call by the higher ranks at any time of the day.
They barely make ends meet, much less make a life of our own. In some packs, omegas were even as good as being called slaves.
They were bullied and taken advantage of.
“Their werewolves. They got right as much as the Lycans do.” I looked up at the blue sky outside, feeling peace.
“And that’s why they love you! You remained humble and actually took them into consideration. When Ralph heard that you invited him, he didn’t hesitate to talk to Jackson immediately. He showed his interest in coming at your call, so Jackson agreed, and there you go…” she narrated with great pride.
I couldn’t help but be stunned.
I never thought that Ralph himself would help me get a smoother plan. Then… my heart ache. I couldn’t believe that I was throwing him into the lion’s den. Guilt crept into me.
Immediately, I shook my head and patted my aching heart. “He should know the truth. Ralph can’t be kept in the dark for too long, being manipulated by Stella like what she’s doing with Kylian.”
Making up my mind, I cheered up. “Anyway, this is good news!”
“It is, right? I gave good news. What’s your share?”
“Well… Mine’s not actually a good one…” I hesitantly started as I stood from the bed.
I leaned beside the window, looking far outside, hoping it would be as easy as looking out of the window to see the Wakeland.
“Aside from my plan of uncovering Stella’s plans, it’s true that I need to learn about ships.” I explained and sighed, “The Wakeland is close to the North Sea, and I’ll soon need that knowledge to maximize every resource in keeping peace there.”
The problem in Wakeland had been going on for so long, and the notorious rogues weren’t coming to a stop. It would be best to provide new strategies in case things go south.
“You can do it! I’m so happy to see how devoted you are. I know things will get better with you soon,” she replied encouragingly.
“I hope so too…”
Silence engulfed us as a sense of unknown, disturbing feeling floating in the air.
“Is Albert still not answering your calls?” Fae asked after a while, increasing that disturbing feeling surging in my heart.
“No… he’s probably busy…”
For the past few days, things have remained the same. Albert and I would only converse though emails or messages.
“He hasn’t spoken for so long. Maybe… he can’t speak for some reason?” Fae reminded me.
My eyebrows furrowed together, and I opened the window for fresh air.
“You’re worrying too much, Fae. There were a lot of issues to handle in Wakeland, I know that he’s busy. We can’t blame him for not answering calls. Besides, I believe in Albert,” I replied with much confidence while standing upright.
I believe there’s no one more than Albert at this time. He’s an heir, and he’s very much capable. I knew in my heart that he could handle things over there as he said he was.
“Della… I knew I asked this before, multiple times at that. But still, I want to ask… After your divorce, will you ever consider Albert? He sacrificed too many things for you, far beyond what you imagined. Is there really not a chance?”
My heart skipped a beat.
Fae asked me in a serious tone, which she would rarely do unless it was very significant.
Thinking about it, I didn’t think it was that serious, so it was probably just because she was so into shipping me and Albert together.
I held my stomach, feeling the new life that was forming in me. “Have you forgotten already? My fated mate will appear soon. I can’t be with another man when that happens.”
“But…”
“But nothing. Look, you yourself told me that Lucas is a great wizard. His predictions never missed.”
“Oh but Albert’s a really great guy. He deserves to be loved.”
I could hear the deep sadness in Fae’s tone. I understood it. Albert was our friend, and we’d love the best for him. And that’s exactly why I shouldn’t led him on and made it clear to him that we won’t go farther than friends.
“And he’ll have his fated mate for that. I knew he’d meet her soon and get far greater than he deserved.” I smiled just thinking about it.
Reminded of the past. All my sufferings as an omega, an unwanted Luna, and an unfavored wife, especially when Flora came, made my eyes more open to reality.
With a low voice, I told Fae, “After seeing Flora’s suffering and what happened between her, Kylian, and me… I understood one thing– there is nothing that can break a mate bond.”
We were fools to think one could go differently from the Moon Goddess's plans.
And besides, Lucas' prediction made me wistful.
He told me that as long as I was willing to submit to the bond, my fated mate would provide me with a joyous and peaceful life – something I’ve always dreamt of.
But…
Looking down at my tummy where my pup was, I held it with my hands as if to hug it.
I already had a child… Would my fated mate accept it? Would he be a great father?
Many uncertainties and questions filled me.
But whoever my fated mate was, I wasn’t expecting anything. After all, I’ve been at my lowest, I didn’t think there were far more below I could fall into.
Once I was out of my deep thoughts, did I only realized what I had said.
Fae was still silent on the other end of the call.
Fool! I scolded myself. How could I say that?
Agh! I wanted to slap my mouth!
I forgot that Jackson had met his fated mate before already, but she died. I knew that deep down, Fae had always been worried that she may not be able to replace her in Jackson’s heart.
Quickly, I added, “But I know that you and Jackson can defeat that bond!”
I heard a few movements on the other side. It seemed like she stood up from where she was earlier. With a sigh, said, “I’m not sure about that. After all, he never announced our relationship in public.”
"What? Jackson hasn't announced your relationship? You two had spent many nights already right?! God, he won't treat you as a sex partner, will he? I promise you, if he does, even if he is my brother I will kick his ass!”
"I don't know."
Her voice was filled with depression, and I had the urge to run back to the kingdom and wrap my arms tightly around her to give her comfort.
‘Agh, Della! You stick your mouth in your ass again!’ I couldn't believe that I was so engrossed in my own thoughts that I forgot to take her situation and feelings before uttering such comments.
I slapped my forehead in frustration as I repeatedly silently scolded myself.
“Oh well! Enough with that! You better tell me how Stella will react once Ralph arrives. I want all the gossip!”
Fae changed the subject, cheering the dull atmosphere that we had.
She’d always been a cheerful friend, so instead of going back to the topic that pained us, I went on with the flow and made a small, happy talk with her. Cheering both of us.
“Oh! I got to go. Jackson’s calling me!” she happily announced before hanging up the phone.
I’m glad that she was cheered up just like that. Indeed, she’s stronger than I was.
Staring at my phone, I was reminded of Fae’s inquiry about Jackson.
After phasing around the room a couple of times and staring at my phone, I let the hint of worry in me win.
I dialed Albert’s number with hesitation, but he didn’t answer.
As usual, I got a message from him after a few seconds. “Della, you called. Is there anything you need help with?”
I frown and sigh.
“He’s fine…” I whispered in the air. See, Fae was indeed just talking nonsense. There’s nothing for us to worry about.
Hence, I replied, “Can you send me more information about Wakeland’s marginal sea?”
