Chapter 69

“Hey, are you alright?” That was the first thing that Albert asked when he entered my room after Luke and his men went out.
I smiled at him. “Never been better. I spoke my mind, and I think I voiced it all out well.”
He approached me and placed his hand on the top of my head. He sincerely looked into my eyes with pride in his eyes. “You are the heir of the Lycan King, it’s your fate. You will carry the burdens of every member of the werewolf world over your shoulder and I know that you above anyone else can do it.”
It’s amazing how he is always able to say the right words at the right time. In that instant, I was relieved of all worries.
He’s right. I was strong. I was meant to be greater than I am today.
After taking a deep breath, I straightened my back and held my head high with a determined smile. “Thank you. I will.”
A few days later.
Albert and I were walking around the pack borders early in the morning. We take this as an exercise, and use this time to talk about pack matters as well.
“How’s it going at the Wakeland borders?” I asked while looking toward the outside borders of Dark Moon Pack.
Boarders seemed peaceful with the surrounding forest and quiet nature, but the scary things hidden beneath it was far from what anyone could imagine. A world without rogues and worry… Would that ever come true?
When I looked at Albert and saw him shaking his head in dismay. “No… Wakeland is in chaos right now. Rogues continue to invade and cause many crimes.”
I frowned, stopping him, “Was the tightening of security not doing anything at all?”
“They are well organized. It’s like everything was well planned. According to my source, the rogue’s leader is Drake Underfield. He’s known for being a ruthless and strategic leader. Other than basic information, I can’t get more about him yet.”
“Drake Underfield…”
My head was aching. I haven’t ended a problem yet, and here was another one coming our way. What a great life indeed.
I found a log a few steps away and decided to sit in there. I crossed my legs and leaned my elbow on my knee while my chin was on my palm.
The situation in Wakeland was getting more and more problematic. Innocents were getting hurt and we still couldn’t withhold them despite the troops we sent. We needed to be more strategic if that’s the case.
Facing these problems is really frustrating. I have been able to focus on my relationship problems, all thanks to Albert's help.
But I can't keep relying on him. He is right, I am the heir of Lycan King, and I should shoulder my responsibilities instead of wallowing in useless sorrow.
I looked at Albert with gratefulness. “I am so sorry Albert. I came here and ended up leaving all the work to you. I was so drowned with my own problem that I forgot I have more things out there to worry about.”
“You know you always got me. It’s fine. I am glad that I can help you.”
His reply made me even more sorry. He never regretted helping me nor asked for anything in exchange.
“Thank you, Albert. Thank you for everything. I meant it.”
He smiled widely. “In that case, give me a smile already. You look prettier that way instead of being melancholic.”
As soon as he said that, a huge smile instantly broke from my lips. I mean who wouldn’t smile at that.
Damn, he was smooth at that.
“Let’s go, Princess Della,” he jokingly said as he made that prince bow with his hand being offered toward me.
I slapped his hand and laughed as I stood. “Stop that! You’re being silly now.”
We continued walking back toward the packhouse. Or rather, I did. Because when I looked back, Albert was nowhere to be found.
I furrowed my eyebrows together and looked around for him.
“Surprise!” I jumped around when Albert suddenly surprised me from my back. When I looked toward him, he handed me a handmade bouquet of flowers of various kinds.
I looked around and confirmed why the flowers seemed all familiar.
He picked it from the roadsides and tangled it all together using a vine! Talk about corny but sweet gestures!
“What are you doing?” I asked between laughs, but grabbed the flowers from his hands anyway.
“Making you smile again. It worked, didn’t it?” he proudly said which made me laugh even more.
I nodded enthusiastically and answered, “Yes, it indeed did. Thank you so much.”
After that, we continued walking with smiles on our faces while standing side by side with each other. However, when we reached the middle of the pack where it was crowded with other members, those smiles instantly vanished.
Everyone was looking at me and pointing a finger at me. What’s more ridiculous was that they weren’t even trying to be discreet about it.
They stood right in front of me, criticizing me loudly, as if I was not their Luna.
“Oh my God, you see, she just accepted the flowers from Mr. Wolfie. Has she always been a slut like this?”
“She’s just an omega, do you remember that? If Alpha Kylian didn’t marry her, she wouldn’t be labeled as a Luna! So she now acts like who she really is, like a whore, is very normal.”
“Is that real? I heard she’s flirting with prince Jackson now. Apparently, she climbs his bed so Prince Jackson sent Mr. Wolfie here to guard her! I don't believe Mr. Wolfie really fells for her.”
“Hey! Have you forgotten already? When she was still staying here before, she was really kind to us. Don’t easily believe those rumors. She might be an omega but that’s what made her kinder than the rest.” Someone actually defended me which made my eyes swell. I didn’t expect that. At least not from anyone in this pack.
“Oh, don’t be delusional! She’s just a slut!”
“You’re right! Now that she has someone more powerful, I heard that she is asking our Alpha to divorce her!”
“What?! The audacity! How dare she do that to our alpha? She deserves a beating!”
“So after everything, she’s just an ungrateful bitch, huh?”
“Yes! Our alpha brought her to where she stands now, and she still dares to do all that? Someone like her doesn't deserve to be defended!”
“What the hell do they even know? It’s their Alpha who’s an asshole!” Albert uttered gritted teeth and took threatening steps toward the women who were chatting, but I immediately held his arm.
I shook my head in disapproval. “It’s not worth it. Let it be. They're just gossiping around.”
It’s their alpha and pack. Of course, they would defend him. Besides, it would only be a waste of time to bother ourselves in such matters. There were far more important things we should focus on.
“But…”
“But nothing. It’s fine. I heard far worse, and I didn’t want to argue with anyone right now. We have other things to do. Let’s just go.” I pulled him and urged him to continue walking with me. It took a few more persuasion from me but he gave in anyway after some time.
Gossips tend to end once time passes by.
They’ll forget about me soon, especially once the divorce was finalized and once Kylian and Stella officially get together.
Thinking about that, I walked in a daze.
“You’re thinking about him, aren’t you?”
“What?” I asked Albert when I heard him asking me something but I didn’t catch what it was about.
“I was asking if you were thinking about Alpha Kylian,” he repeated.
Immediately, I shook my head. “No, of course not. I’ll soon be divorced from him. I completely gave up on him already, Albert. So, there was nothing to think about.”
Seeing that he was looking at me with sympathy, I gave him a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, soon enough, my fated mate will appear.”
‘Who are you kidding, Della?’ I scolded myself silently.
Obviously, it was all a lie. I still love him and that’s not something easy to fade.
Albert stopped walking, took a moment, and asked, “Will it… Will it be possible for you to be another chosen mate if that man will love you like how you deserved to be loved?”
What is Albert asking? It’s a stupid question.
I looked at him strangely and smiled bitterly.
“You should know that, Albert. I don’t think I can ever trust a chosen mate ever again.” After saying that, I continued walking.
I was already hurt so bad that I don’t think I could ever trust again. I’ll most probably won’t fall in love again unless my fated mate appears.
Albert became silent beside me but I didn’t mind it anymore. We just walked in silence. However, while giving him side glances every once in a while, I couldn’t help but be bothered as I saw how his eyes became soulless and how depressed he started to look.
I couldn’t understand what could be the cause of his sudden change, so I asked, “Are you okay? Is something wrong? Why did you suddenly become quiet?”
Albert stopped walking and took a step closer right in front of me with extreme seriousness in his face. “I…”
He was about to speak when I subconsciously stepped back due to our closeness and accidentally stepped on something slippery that caused me to fall.
Fortunately, Albert was agile and able to wrap his arms around my waist. Everything seemed to turn in slow motion as he pulled me upward and our chest collided with each other with our faces only inches apart from each other.
My hand, on the other hand, was on his chest for support.
“Ms.Della, what do you think you are doing?”
Just then, an angry voice called out.
