Chapter 28

Kylian stood in the middle of the money shower in total shock for a few seconds before his eyes dimmed.
He looked at me with narrowed eyes, with the tip of his ears reddening.
Was he embarrassed? Or did he think that's my plan?
I shrugged. Well, it wasn't my intention, but who cared?
He took a step closer to me and grabbed a few dollars that flew in front of him. Extending his hand in front of me, he asked in a firm and suspicious voice, "Where did you get all this? How can an omega like you attain this much money?"
Then, he harshly threw the money away, seemingly disgusted by it.
Through his gritted teeth, he sneered, "Tell me!"
He tried to reach out for my wrist, wanting to pull me toward him like he always so dominatingly did.
But this time, he failed. Before he got hold of me, Jackson was faster at holding my other wrist and pulling me toward his back while pushing Kylian's hand away.
"Don't even try disrespecting my guest in my own territory, Kylian." Taking a step forward and leaning a bit toward Kylian, Jackson continued using a dangerous tone of voice, "Or else, don't blame me if I won't be polite either. Even if you're the Dark Moon Pack's alpha."
Kylian clenched his sharp jaws as he looked at Jackson with sharp eyes. "Don't try to—"
"Maybe in your eyes, a million dollars is enough to make Miss Della succumb to your every word – enough to make her take the blame for your mistress' crimes," Jackson interrupted.
He glanced at the people present momentarily before adding, "But in the eyes of others, she's priceless."
Jackson looked down at the briefcase that fell to the ground and kicked in toward Kylian's direction. "This is only two million dollars. A woman like Miss Della surely deserves a whole lot more."
I saw nods of approval from the bystanders, which made Kylian's ears even redder from embarrassment, which I could confirm after feeling the deadly glare he was throwing at me.
What was he mad about? Jackson only helped me regain my dignity when they offered that useless money. Hell, a million wasn't even enough to make me buy a car. How dare he think it could be exchanged for my life?
What he and his family did to me with these past couple of side-by-side incidents brought a massive thorn in my heart that caused something beyond repair in my being.
The tension that formed around the venue from the two dominating people like Kylian and Jackson was broken when a small refreshing laugh was heard.
Every attention went to Albert, who had a huge smile on his young and handsome face.
Albert was staring at me with pure admiration without any hint of smugness or perverted as he shrugged and said, "Well, if a two million can help someone as beautiful and kind woman as Miss Della leave a tyrannical and cheating bastard of a husband…"
His playful expression suddenly turned serious as his eyes shifted to Kylian. Then, in a firm tone, he continued, "Then, I'll also be willing to donate generously. I won't even think twice."
Hearing Albert's claims, the crowd once again got stirred into speaking up on my behalf, almost echoing Albert's intentions and meaning.
"That's right. I'll probably do the same."
"What's two million for justice? Right?"
"Yes, that's not that huge sum of money."
At first, I felt thankful for how supportive of me the crowd had become, but then I later realized how things were starting to get out of hand.
I looked around and saw the faces of the high-ranking guests. I even recognized some of the known Alphas and Lunas who attended the event.
If things get bigger than they already are, I'm sure that what happened today will spread like the plague, and Luke will hear about it sooner or later.
As much as I hate Kylian right now, I also knew how Luke could get mad. I once heard Kylian's screams from the inhumane punishments he received from Luke. He once went back to our bedroom looking half dead from all the beatings he had, blood soaking his clothes.
I wouldn't know how I'd feel if that happened because of this. Just the thought of it was enough to put me in distress and make me feel guilty. If it really happened… I could only imagine the possible pain he'd be in.
Luke was a ruthless father despite being an admirable Alpha. Just knowing how badly he treated Kylian already made me nauseous.
I shifted my gaze to Kylian, who was already red from rage and humiliation. With hands in his fist, he tried his best to control his anger. After all, Jackson was the prince, and he was in the kingdom right now.
Looking at him like that, I was left in a great dilemma.
As much as I detest him for hurting me so badly, I still couldn't bear to see him being punished by Luke.
Taking a deep breath, I walked closer to Jackson and tugged at his clothes. Whispering, I said, "This is enough."
Feeling my tug, Jackson looked back, and we talked with our eyes.
After a while of thinking, he looked around and motioned for some of the warriors to come by.
While waiting for the warrior, he turned around and looked at the guests. "Dear guest, I'm sorry for the commotion, which seems to have been settled now."
He meaningfully looked at Kylian, intimidating him not to continue when he saw him parting his lips to speak again.
When he was sure he was done, Jackson motioned toward the pool and the bar, saying, "Please enjoy the rest of the party."
Taking that as a cue, the crowd dispersed and went on to do their own thing again, still subtly gossiping about what had happened.
"Prince…" The warrior greeted while bowing in respect to Jackson.
Jackson rudely pointed at Kylian and Flora, "Escort Alpha Kylian and his mistress out of here together with their money." Saying that he kicked a pile of money near his fear.
"This way, please…" the warrior said, extending his arm toward the exit and showing them the way out.
Another warrior came in to help pick up the money, but Kylian immediately stopped him. "We're not taking it."
Shifting his gaze at me, he said with disgust while stepping at some of the fallen dollars. "I won't take this money!"
Determination and rage glinting in his eyes, he deeply stared at me and vowed, "And I'll never divorce you!"
"That will never—"
Before I could rebuke further, his stare became a bit more tender as he added, "I hope we can talk this out, Della. You'll definitely change your mind. Trust me."
Determination exuded in him as we fell into a moment of staring contest, his eyes slowly turning sharp.
After a minute, I shook my head, firmly saying, "I'll never look back."
I narrowed my eyes at him. Why was he so confident that I'd change my mind? What more tricks was he planning?
"Agh!" Suddenly, a loud shriek was heard.
Following the source of the shout, I saw Flora writhing in pain while protectively holding her stomach. Tears were streaming down her face from the pain.
"Flora!" Kylian shouted in panic and attentively wrapped his arm around her waist, supporting her.
"Ky—" She tried to call his name, but she fainted into his arms.
"Shit!" Kylian cursed in shock as he swiftly carried Flora in a bridal style, with his arms on her back and under her knees.
I didn't blink my eyes and watched him carrying and holding her close to him. I let the wave of disappointment rush over me and found it amusing at the same time how this shit kept on happening to us.
"You're fine… You'll be fine…" Kylian whispered to Flora while adjusting her in his arms.
It's always like this. Conveniently, she'd faint, and Kylian would hold her and coax her softly—something he never did for me.
Every time something happened since Flora came, he'd only blame me for something, little or big, and would endlessly ask me to be more tolerant of fragile Flora.
Thinking of it alone made me sneer, vomit even.
Sensing the bitterness radiating in me, Jackson came to my side and comforted me by touching my back.
"Leave now and bring your mistress with you!" Jackson repeated.
Clenching his jaw, Kylian tightened his hold on Flora before he gave me one last deep stare.
"This way, Aloha Kylian," the warrior repeated. This time, he followed them and left.
I was watching them leave when I felt an arm on my shoulder. I looked on my side and saw Jackson looking at me with worry. Later, his expression relaxed, and he gave me an uplifting smile. "Come on, let's go to the racecourse."
Hearing that, my eyes immediately widened in excitement.
"Yeahhh!!!"
Cheers welcomed us as soon as we entered the race course. The horses were already on the starting stalls with their equestrians on their back, rails numbering from 1 to 8.
Everyone was cheering and making bets, and the tote board lit up in the middle of the oval course's grass field.
"I knew this would lift your spirits up!" Jackson smugly said, and I nodded at him, passing up his teasing.
"It sure did. You know me so well." I bumped his shoulder with mine before I ran up to the grandstand, leaning against the railing and narrowing my eyes to take a better look at the horses.
I swept my eyes to all six horses, but number three took my attention. Its equestrian patted it on the neck, and the horse seemed very relaxed, as if the horse and its man were in sync.
Observing its physique as well, I was almost sure that it was in good condition and well-taken care of while also well-trained.
"Are you betting?" Jackson came to my side.
Nodding frantically, I pointed at number three. "I sure will."
Jackson raised his hand, and a server approached us. He put out his notes.
"Number three, finish first, a hundred grand," I bet.
Jackson gave me meaningful eyes. "So confident, huh?"
I only gave him a smirk and went to watch the show unfold.
While watching the race, my thoughts wandered back to Kylian's last words. What did he want to talk to me about?
"What? You aren't really thinking of meeting with that bastard, are you? You shouldn't have anything to do with him anymore!" Trisha immediately scolded me, though, as soon as Kylian came into my mind.
"I was just thinking, nothing more."
She scoffed. "Thinking now, but before you knew it, you're already doing it, so better not to think of him! Period!"
"I was just curious, that's all!" After saying that, I blocked her before I had a headache with her constant scolding.
I just couldn't help but wonder what he was talking about. He had already brought Flora to the Lupercalia Festival, so why was he still so keen and sure of changing my mind?
Was I such a pushover in his eyes? Or did he make some kind of plan to ensure that I'd agree to get back with him?"
"Prince, you've called for me?" One of the staff from the PR department came.
"Yes, I want you to draft a document about what happened today and send it to the former Alpha of Dark Moon Pack, Alpha Luke. Officially tell him about Della's proposal for divorce with Kylian."
Hearing that instantly jolted me. "Wait, no!"
I looked at my brother and earnestly protested, "You can't do this. Luke will kill Kylian!"
Jackson sighed and firmly told me, "I know Kylian. He's like a wild beast in the wilderness. He won't let go of his prey so easily, and right now, that prey is you!"
"But—"
"Only with Luke's intervention can you make Kylian sign the divorce. Kylian already rejected you, and so did you. Even if the divorce papers haven't been signed, you are already as good as divorced," he explained.
His eyes then went sharp, and his tone heightened when he added, "You shouldn't care about him anymore!"
