Chapter 8

"If you really don't want to have anything to do with me any further, then I'll leave right away."
With that, I got out of the bed. I could not find the slippers, but I did not let that stop me and headed for the door barefoot.
When I walked past Spencer with my head hung low, my face was already streaked with silent tears.

"Kaylee." Spencer grabbed hold of me. "I already told you earlier, I don't hate you."
"Then are you going to take responsibility?"
I threw his hand off and stared up at him indignantly. "You kissed me and hugged me. And you even…"
Suddenly, Spencer's hand was on my chin, and his lips came crashing down.
"Kaylee."
His mouth sucked lightly on my lips, and his breathing grew heavier.

"If you insist on provoking me, then you'll just have to see it through."
I wrapped my hands around his thin but strong waist and tip-toed to deepen the kiss.
"Okay."
During the holidays, I went to my biological parents' hometown and stayed there for three days.

When I left, that horrible couple who indulged in every vice under the sun had been taken in by the cops. Waiting for them was the severe punishment of the legal system.
Thanks to my dreams, I had indisputable evidence that linked them to a whole host of crimes, from kidnapping to gambling and even sex trafficking.
I did not need to wait till I reincarnated nor did I need to wait till my next life.
I was able to completely be rid of the pair of evil incarnates within this lifetime and have them suffer their deserved consequences.
When I got on the plane, I breathed out all of my anxiousness. This mess that had been weighing on me heavily had finally been taken care of.
At that moment, I felt indescribably liberated and relaxed.
When my plane landed, the first thing I did was let Spencer know I had arrived safe and sound.
He did not know the true reason behind my trip. He thought that I had gone traveling with my friends.
"I'll go to your place tonight. Is everything for your house taken care of?"
Spencer had moved off-campus. He was a senior and rarely needed to go to campus.
Moreover, it was slightly inconvenient to live in the same room with Andrew.
"All done. I'll go pick you up?"
"Okay!"
"Kaylee…"
"What's wrong?"
"Today is Andrew's birthday, and he's planned a party. He asked me to go, and to… bring my girlfriend."
I had totally forgotten that it was Andrew's birthday.
"Kay, do you want to go with me?"
I did not answer him as I debated internally.
It was not because I was unwilling to go public with my relationship with Spencer, but because the Johnsons were likely going to disown me very soon, which meant my shameful beginnings would then be revealed to the world.
I knew Spencer would not mind, but I could not bear to have him be subjected to gossip and criticism.
Just like in my dreams where people denounced him for choosing the scandalous woman over his parents and other family members, which ultimately caused them great heartache.
However, just like what Spencer had said the other day, I was the one who provoked him first, so I should really see it through. I could not very well just change my mind on a dime.
"Spencer." I took a deep breath and asked, "Do you want me to go?"
"Yes," he answered without any hesitation.
"Then come pick me up. I'll go with you."
As I held my phone, I raised my head and saw my reflection in the window. I was smiling when I said those words. In fact, I was beaming.
"Kay, look outside."
My heart suddenly skipped a beat.
The moment I turned around, it was like a slow-motion scene one would see in movies.
There was still a bright smile on my face, while the sounds from the loudspeakers gradually dimmed.
In the midst of the crowd, I saw Spencer.
Only Spencer.
I ditched my luggage and flew toward him without a care in the world.
Spencer stood steady in that spot, but he opened his arms for me.
I leaped into his embrace, and he caught me firmly. Even with the force of my jump, he did not back up one step.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, looked up at him, and gave him a big grin.
"Hey, handsome. Good core strength you have there."
