Chapter 5

Maverick's face twisted with annoyance as he yanked his arm free from his father's grip.
"Enough! What the hell are you all making a scene for? Ginger is the most innocent girl I've ever met. How could she possibly force me into anything?
"It was my choice. All I want is to be with Ginger. So what if it means I miss the exam?"

Maverick's parents went pale with rage, hands trembling as they pointed at him. "Y-You ungrateful brat! We raised you with everything we had, and this is how you repay us?"
Maverick's expression turned icy. His voice was flat as he said, "If you despise me that much, we can cut ties.
"From now on, I'll treat Ginger's parents as my own. I'll treat them well, and that's good enough for me."
Mrs. Livingston burst into loud, triumphant laughter at Maverick's remark. "You heard that, you poor school teachers?
"Maverick wants us to be his parents instead. Why don't you go home and wash up for bed?"
Ginger wrapped her arms around Maverick affectionately. "Mr. and Mrs. Barkley, from now on, Maverick is both my brother and my boyfriend.

"When we get married, we'll be one big family. You can go wherever you want. We won't be your concern anymore."
Maverick affectionately kissed Ginger on the lips before saying to his parents, "That's right. We are no longer each other's concern anymore, Mr. and Mrs. Barkley. You should leave."
Mrs. Barkley's body went limp, and she collapsed on the ground after hearing that.
Chaos erupted instantly. Some people called out for Mrs. Barkley, and others called for an ambulance. A few stood aside, whispering in shock.

Maverick merely rolled his eyes, utterly unbothered. He turned and walked away with Ginger's family.
In the end, Maverick's parents were taken away in an ambulance. The teachers and students left at the venue lost their appetite for celebration.
The graduation party ended in a hasty mess.
On the way home, Lucy fumed with indignation. "Maverick is a good-for-nothing bastard. How could he treat his parents that way? His mother fainted, yet he didn't even look back once."
I nodded in agreement.
In my previous life, I saw firsthand how cruel Maverick could be. He was capable of killing the wife he had loved for ten years with his own hands, all for Ginger. Abandoning his own parents in this life didn't seem that far-fetched.
Lucy continued, "Did you see Ginger's family? That shameless, aggressive attitude was revolting. I heard they run a casino, and it's hardly an honest business. No wonder they were so brazen. It makes you wonder if Maverick was after their money.
I shrugged casually. "Maybe."
Lucy pouted. "I'd like to see what happens to those two freaks if they stay together."
I smiled faintly, feeling a trace of anticipation myself.
