I slowly walked over and squatted in front of Amber.
"Did I really cause Jax's death?"
"Did I tell you to abuse him daily, to let him go to bed hungry?"
"Did I tell you to deliver him to the criminal to be killed?"
"You killed Jax yourself, my dear sister."
"Right after we gave birth, you conspired with Dad and my husband to switch the babies. All these years, the reason you abused Jax was because you thought he was my son. You resented me but didn't dare move against me, so you took your anger out on Jax."
"Too bad, I saw them switch the babies. While they were gone and you were asleep, I switched them back. Jax and Noah don't look that similar. If you had paid just a little more attention, you'd have known Jax was your own son."
Amber's face grew paler and paler. She screamed at me wildly. "If you knew the truth all along, why didn't you tell me sooner? If you had told me, Jax wouldn't have had to suffer so much!"
"It's all your fault! All your fault! If it weren't for you, my son would still be alive! Why aren't you the one who died? Why don't you just die!"
I sneered. "Tell you sooner? So you could find another chance to switch them again? Or so you could plot another scheme to harm me and Noah?"
"I just let Jax suffer the fate you intended for my son. You did everything yourself. What does it have to do with me?"
Amber went completely mad. She couldn't accept that the child she'd been abusing was her own son, nor that she'd caused Jax's death. So she blamed everything on me, screaming as she charged at me.
I ran around the memorial hall, throwing things at her.
Just as I was getting tired and she was about to pin me down and hit me, the police arrived.
Seeing the police, Amber and Dad's expressions changed.
The former looked delighted, wanting the police to arrest me, the murderer who killed her son and disrupted the memorial.
The latter looked guilty, quietly hiding himself in the crowd.
In front of the police, I revealed the secret I'd held for years.
"Ten years ago, Amber and I gave birth on the same day in the same hospital. My father and my husband switched the babies while we were asleep."
"Not knowing their motives, I simply switched them back when they were gone and didn't make a fuss. But I never imagined Amber would go so far as to deliver the child to a criminal's knife."
Hearing this, the police asked Dad and my husband to come forward, asking if they admitted to switching the babies back then.
In front of the police, they admitted it.
"Why did you switch the two babies back then?"
No one answered.
Or rather, they didn't dare answer.
I sighed. "Since they won't say it, I will."
"Because both children are my husband's."
My husband's face drastically changed upon hearing this. He looked at me pleadingly, hoping I wouldn't say more.
But I ignored his gaze and continued. "My husband was a live-in son-in-law. We signed a prenup before marriage: as long as I'm alive, he can't interfere with any Collins Corp matters."
"Ambitious as he is, he wasn't willing to accept that. So he hooked up with my sister. Coincidentally, this sister already resented me for monopolizing the Collins fortune. They hit it off immediately, deciding to seize the family assets together."
Then I looked at Amber, who was still pretending to be crazy, and said coldly, "Stop pretending. I know you're not insane."
"I just don't understand. Even though I didn't let you handle company affairs, I believe I never shortchanged you financially. I always treated you like a real sister, granting your every wish."
"Why do you hate me so much?"
Amber, who had been pretending to be crazy and making a scene, quieted down and looked at me coldly. "Vanessa, what I hate most is your superior attitude."
"What about me, Amber Collins, is inferior to you? Why do you get to inherit Collins Corp, while I can only be a good-for-nothing?"
"We grew up together, had the same education, went to the same university, studied the same major. Why could you become CEO right after graduation, while I didn't even get a chance to work in the family company?"
"I have just as much right to inheritance as you! Why wasn't I even allowed to work in my own family's company!"
"I don't accept!"
