Dazed Chloe suddenly awakened. She dodged Jake's dagger, enraged.
Her face twisted as she screamed at the team:
“I'm not the water-wielder! But which of you didn't join for that? You wanted free benefits! Didn't get them, so you blame me?”
“Especially you, Jake! You talk about leaving, but why are you still here? Greedy for my water? In this apocalypse, everyone treasures water, but you and Leo used it to wash your asses!”
No one expected that. They all stared at Jake, disgusted.
Leo flushed red with anger. Jake was livid.
But Chloe lifted her chin proudly.
“If you hadn't wasted water, we'd be at the base already! Trading water for shelter! Now it's gone, and you blame me? You deserve to die!”
She ranted fast, eyes full of venom.
Then she turned tearful eyes to the leader.
“Leader, I don't have powers, but my sister does! If you take me in, I'll get her here! Her water is endless! You'll have all you want!”
Zach's parents exchanged glances, confused until a bystander filled them in. Then they realized their mistake.
They couldn't take it out on me, so they turned on Chloe, kicking and punching.
“Stealing your sister's man? You disgrace!”
Before the apocalypse, I protected Chloe. Even if not everyone liked her, she was respected.
After, she used my powers to play hero, thinking she was blessed.
She even dreamed of leading the team to a new base, killing me, marrying Zach, living happily.
Who knew it'd end like this?
After I left, the team kept wasting water. In two days, barrels were gone.
At first, she played tired to hide her lack of powers.
But soon, others noticed she was lying. They wanted to beat her to death.
She begged Zach, but he ignored her, seeing her as dead weight.
By chance, she found her blood could become water. So she survived by selling her blood.
She thought reaching the base would save her. But I was already here, waiting.
I watched them pin her down, motionless.
In my past life, they killed me like this.
Now it was her turn.
Just then, Chloe turned to me.
“Mia, you did this to me! I'll make you live with guilt forever!”
I was confused, but she pulled the pin on her only grenade.
The explosion echoed. When it faded, Chloe, Zach, his parents, Jake, Leo—all were ash.
I almost laughed.
I thought she had a plan. Just suicide.
But suicide only hurts those who care. To me, she was an enemy. Her death pleased me.
I brushed the dust off my clothes and walked back to the base.
This morning, the leader got news: scientists detected temperatures dropping.
Soon, the world would return to normal.
Then, I could start anew.
