After we got home,I comforted my mother for a long time and tried to make her happy.I thought about staying with her for a few more days.
But the company was urging me urgently. After thinking about it,I simply decided to let my mother go to New York with me.

Actually, when I just earned some money and rented a house,I had already thought about bringing my mother to live with me.
But my mother is old and nostalgic. She was also happy running her small shop,so she didn't want to go with me.
I didn't try to stop her either.
But after this incident,my mother finally couldn't stand my grandmother's family anymore. When I mentioned it,she quickly packed her luggage. We would come back after the Spring Festival next year.
Looking at my mother's busy back,I felt extremely sad.
She has worked hard all her life for me and our family.

Yet she has endured all the cold looks and abuse from her husband's family.
I finally managed to earn some money, but I still couldn't give her a comfortable life.
I really feel like a failure.
My grandmother,Mary,is a well-known shrew in the small village with strong patriarchal ideas.

She doesn't recognize reason or the law and only knows how to be unreasonable, shout, and hit people.
If she hadn't been sued and suffered a little,I don't know how arrogant she would have become.
My mother married into such a family and gave birth to a daughter,so naturally, she didn't have an easy life.
Later, after my father died, they treated my mother even worse.
They forced my mother to marry a bachelor in the mountains just for the 40,000 dollars in betrothal gifts.
Unexpectedly, that bachelor drowned in a ditch after drinking alcohol,so the marriage didn't happen, which disrupted their plan to make money.
Since then,Mary has always held a grudge about this and set her sights on me.
When I was fifteen years old,the results of the high school entrance examination came out,and I was admitted to the best class in our county high school.
The tuition fee was a bit expensive,so my mother bravely went to Mary to borrow money.
Mary not only didn't give it but also told my mother that it was useless for girls to go to school. She said she had found a good family for me.
The betrothal gift alone could be 100,000 dollars, and I wouldn't have to worry about my future life.
My mother's face turned pale, and her voice trembled:
"Even if I have to sell everything I have,I won't let Annie get married."
After saying that, she left and tried every means to raise money, working three jobs a day.
Those were the hardest days for us.
Every time I saw one more white hair on my mother's head,I hated Mary's family even more.
But I knew that at that time,I was too weak to fight against them.
So I studied desperately, constantly trying to make myself stronger.
I was also very competitive.I was admitted to a top 985 university in New York.As soon as I graduated,I entered a top domestic enterprise and had a smooth career.
I will never let those blood-sucking pests in my family hurt my mother again.
The debt they owe us over the years should be paid off.
