Ethan wasn't there to pick me up.He was probably with Sophie,but I was glad to be free from his pestering.
I went home,packed my suitcase,and thanks to a friend,I quickly found a new place to crash.
When I was still at the hospital ,I had already found a lawyer and signed the divorce paper. I left it on the table at home.
Just as I finished settling in my new place,Ethan called.
I hung up without hesitation,but he kept calling persistently.
So I blocked all his calls and texts,and immediately the world became much more peaceful.
I sat on the sofa,staring blankly at the photo of Lily and Daisy on the table.
After a long time,I took out Sophie's necklace from my pocket and examined it carefully under the light.
When I first picked up the necklace,I didn't have time to check it thoroughly.I just took a quick look and put it away.
But now,I could see clearly the bloodstain on the back of the pendant.
I called a friend who worked in the forensics department and asked him to help me check whether the bloodstain matched Daisy's.
Even though I already knew the answer in my heart,with this piece of evidence,there would be one more chance for Sophie to get what she deserved.
Then,I drove to Sophie's apartment building.
I knocked on the guard’s room and pretended to be anxious,saying that I had lost something in the elevator that night Daisy died.I also took out the key card I had taken from Ethan as proof that I was a resident.
I found Ethan's key card when I was packing my things at home.
Presumably,the events of the past few days had left Ethan so distracted that he even forgot to take his ]card with him when going to Sophie's place.
The guard immediately showed me the surveillance footage from that day.
In the video,Sophie's figure appeared in the elevator.But she had a black plastic bag in her hand the whole time.
And whatever was inside the plastic bag seemed to wriggle from time to time.
The elevator went all the way down.When Sophie reached the first floor,her figure disappeared around the corner.
My heart started pounding wildly.It was obvious that what was inside the bag was Daisy,who was not yet dead.
After god knows how long,Sophie finally got back into the elevator.
But by then,the plastic bag in her hand was gone.
I felt a little discouraged.It seemed that there was nothing in the surveillance footage that could prove that Sophie had killed Daisy.
However,the guard noticed something strange.
"Miss,is the thing you're looking for inside her plastic bag?"
I nodded,and the security guard pointed to the direction where Sophie had left in another camera.
"Judging from the surveillance,she was walking towards the green in the neighbourhood."
"There used to be no surveillance there at all.Few people went there,and it had been abandoned for a long time.But recently,that area is going to be renovated into a park for the community,and new cameras have been installed."
As he spoke,the guard switched to the footage another surveillance camera,and Sophie happened to appeare in it.
"Since it's the latest model of surveillance camera and it's still in the testing phase,we don't check it very often."
My heart,which had sunk,seemed to began pounding again.I watched nervously as Sophie looked around on the screen,and then threw the plastic bag on the ground.
Daisy inside the plastic bag struggled violently and let out a few barks.
Sophie then picked up a brick from the still-under-construction bushes beside her and slammed it down hard on Daisy.
The plastic bag stopped moving immediately,only leaving a few whimpers from Daisy.
It seemed that Sophie was still not satisfied.She kicked it hard a few more times.
Finally,when she stepped on Daisy's body,Daisy let out a shrill scream and then became completely still.
The sguard and I stared blankly at the screen.
This torture lasted for 20 minutes.
As I watched,I felt a sharp pain in my heart.
Daisy had been there Lily and me for so many years,but in the end,she died in such a painful way.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes and almost couldn’t hold them back,I took out a USB drive from my bag and looked at the guard pleadingly.
"PLease,that's my dog.She was kidnapped,and I finally managed to find out what happened to her."
"Please help me,I’m begging you"
The security guard hesitated for a while,but finally took the USB drive.
"I'll help you."
