Ethan looked at me carefully and said in a trembling voice,"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Did Lily's condition worsen because Daisy was gone..."
Suddenly,the image of Lily on her deathbed flashed through my mind.
There were scars all over her thin wrists,and she was lying in a pool of blood,her face as pale as paper.
Tears welled in my eyes,and I retorted,"What do you think?"
"It's been three months.Since Sophie came back,have you payed any attention to Lily's condition even once in these three months!"
"Youknew fully well how important Daisy was to Lily,but you just didn't care!"
Ethan was speechless after hearing this and hung his head,remaining silent.
I looked at him coldly,seeing nothing but hypocritical man.
The doctor seemed to sense that something was wrong and gestured for Ethan to go out with him.
I turned on my side,feeling an overwhelming sense of exhaustion.
It wasn't until nightfall that Ethan returned to the ward.
Seeing me standing by the window,Ethan rushed over and hugged me from behind,looking panicked.
I could see the reflection of his slightly red eye on the windows.Ethan said with a broken voice,"Clara..."
"I'm sorry for you and Lily.I've neglected Lily these past few days..."
"I really didn't expect Lily's condition to worsen so suddenly.If I had known...If I had known,I wouldn't have..."
I pushed Ethan away and looked at him coldly,feeling that every word he said was extremely hypocritical.
"Isn't it too late to say'if'now?"
"Do you know that when I rushed home,I saw my sister lying there,and the blood was almost flowing out of the bathtub!"
As I spoke,tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
I pushed and shoved Ethan until he retreated to the door of the ward.
"Even when she was dying,she was thinking of you,her brother-in-law!"
"She wanted you and me to carry on with our life even at the moment of her death,but she didn't know that the only thing keeping her alive was taken away by the brother-in-law she missed so much!"
I crouched down,covering my face with my hands,and cried uncontrollably.
"Without Lily,how can I carry on..."
Ethan tried to hug me again,but I slapped his hand away.
He lowered his head and asked in a trembling voice,"Where...is Lily buried?"
"I want to see her,even if it's just so that i could apologize..."
I wiped away my tears,sniffled,and stood up.I opened the door of the ward and shouted,"Get out!Get out of here now!"
"You don't deserve to see Lily!"
A trace of desolation flashed across Ethan's face,but he still tried to soothe me.
"Okay,Clara.I'll go.Don't get too excited.Have a good rest,okay?"
I stared coldly at Ethan.But as soon as he turned around,his phone rang.
Ethan answered the call.His voice was so low that I couldn't hear clearly what he was saying,but I still saw the name of the contact on his phone screen.
Sophie.
Ethan hung up the phone quickly.I sneered and said,"What?Did Sophie have a seizure again?Does she need you,her psychiatrist,to keep her company again?"
Ethan looked a little embarrassed,but still forced himself to say,"Clara,that necklace really means a lot to Sophie.Can you..."
The anger that hadn't subsided before now reached its peak,and I lost control again.
"Ethan!Do you know that it's the evidence that could prove that Sophie killed Daisy!"
"When Daisy died,that necklace was right beside her!"
Ethan was silent for a moment."Maybe it's all just a coincidence..."
I was so angry that I could only laugh.
I raised my hand and slapped Ethan on his face.
I used all my strength,and the sound echoed in the hospital corridor.
I held back my anger and said,"Get out,Ethan."
Ethan covered his face and lowered his head,the turned around and left forlornly.
I looked at his back coldly."I won't let Sophie get away with this."
"As for you,I'll ask a lawyer to draw up the divorce papers and send it to you tomorrow."
"Ethan,you're responsible for Lily's death.I hope you live the rest of your life in regret."
After saying that,I immediately locked the door of the ward and listened no further to Ethan's attempts to explain.
