"You scoundrel You scoundrel "
I vaguely heard Lily calling softly and shaking my body.
I suddenly opened my eyes,and it was really Lily!
Before I could speak,she covered my mouth and made a shushing gesture at me.
My ropes had already been untied.
We gathered our courage and walked to the door.The two villagers guarding the door were sleeping soundly,snoring heavily.
I looked back at the two ropes on the ground and suddenly had a question.
My ropes were untied by Lily,so the question was,who untied Lily's ropes?
However,at this moment,I didn't think about it any further.I took Lily's hand and ran out.
Lily suddenly stopped and pointed in a direction.I looked over and vaguely saw a small figure disappear around the corner.
I hesitated for a moment and was about to pull Lily to run in another direction to avoid Tom.
I didn't want to make the same mistake again!
But as soon as I took two steps,there was a soft sound of footsteps in front of me.
I quickly pulled Lily and hid in the shadow of the corner of the house.A person walked by in a hurry.
The village chief!
He ran towards the direction of the forest.
Lily tugged at my hand and whispered in a low voice,
"Let's follow him and see!"
"I always feel that he's very suspicious!"
I stopped her.At this moment,all I wanted was to take Lily away safely.
Whether there were really ghosts or someone was causing trouble in this matter,I didn't want to be involved in it anymore!
Suddenly,someone shouted,
"Those two have escaped!"
Then,scattered curses and shouts came from all over the village.
I took Lily's hand and hid behind the firewood pile of a nearby house,secretly praying not to be discovered.
Lily tugged at my clothes and secretly pointed at the doghouse opposite.
I took a look and almost exclaimed.
Tom!
He was curled up in a ball,staring at us with wide eyes.Before we could react,he crawled out of the doghouse and ran away quickly.
Lily didn't hesitate and got up to chase after him.
At this time,some cursing voices came from the corner of the house,and someone was responding.
I panicked,pulled Lily back into my arms,and hugged her tightly,trying to curl up my body as much as possible,hoping that the firewood pile could hide us well.
But things didn't go as I wished!
The footsteps stopped,and someone said,
"Could they be hiding in the firewood pile or the doghouse?"
"It's possible.Go and check!"
My heart jumped into my throat.I could also feel Lily's nervousness because she was gripping my hand so hard that her nails were almost digging into my flesh!
The footsteps were getting closer and closer,closer and closer...
"Ah..."
A shrill and terrifying scream sounded.
Tom?
We were stunned,and then we heard the rapid footsteps gradually fading away.
Lily desperately tried to break free from my embrace.
"It's Tom!It must be him.He's the only child in the village!"
"He must be in danger!I have to save him!"
I hugged her even tighter and tried to persuade her in her ear.
The villagers had already gone to look for Tom.Besides,we were in a difficult situation ourselves.Going there would only make the villagers more angry and might even have the opposite effect.
Lily stopped struggling.I thought she had accepted my persuasion.
She turned back to look at me.
"You don't understand."
"I must see with my own eyes that Tom is okay before I can be at ease,because..."
She paused,and tears welled up in her eyes.
"He called me mom..."
Lily's mother had passed away when she was very young.Perhaps this was why she had no resistance to Tom?
I could empathize with her feelings!
Under Lily's tears,I completely gave in.We stealthily followed behind the villagers in the direction where the scream had come from.
Suddenly,out of the corner of my eye,I caught a glimpse of a blurred figure!
I turned my head to look towards the alley.In the shadow of the corner of the house,a small figure stood there.
