After the village chief and Tom left,I hardly slept well all night.Tom's words kept swirling in my mind,and the more I thought about them,the more frightened I felt.The more I forced myself not to think about them,the more I couldn't let them go.
And Lily turned her back to me all night.I knew that she also couldn't fall asleep for a long time.
Despite this,we still woke up early in the morning.We silently and quickly packed our luggage and prepared to leave.

However,Aunt Chunfeng spread her hands and blocked in front of us.Her face was red.
"They can't leave!We won't let them go until they bring Tom back!"
"David,if you don't care about Tom,I do.I've treated Tom as my own grandson for so many years.I can't let anything happen to him!"
Because of Aunt Chunfeng's outburst,the villagers who had just stepped aside all chimed in and surrounded me and Lily again.
The hope that had just risen in my heart was suspended again.I looked at the village chief with anticipation.
The village chief let out a sigh.
"Tom is my son.I love him more than anyone else!"

He explained to the villagers.
He knew that Tom had come to find me and Lily last night,but he had taken Tom home later.When Tom went out to play early in the morning,I and Lily hadn't even left the room.
So,I and Lily were innocent.
After saying that,he pushed aside the villagers who were surrounding us.
"You can go.Don't keep your family waiting."
I looked at him with mixed feelings and secretly grateful that I hinted to him yesterday that Lily's family would come looking for her.

We had run so far.We should be safe now.
