“But the estate’s not safe. Why not move out?”
I considered,then declined.
I liked the liveliness, and I got along well with Mrs.Sterling.

Somehow,Nathan got Sophie kicked out.
Even Ethan stopped no longer appeared around me.
Two months later,I gave birth to a pair of twin boys.
My parents-in-law were thrilled, hosting a three-day feast at a seven-star hotel and donating five million for the boys’blessings.
Sophie couldn’t even get through the Sterling gate.
I was wearing a hand-stitched embroidered long dress. The lace embroidery on my wrists revealed nobility and elegance everywhere. Nathan was dressed in a well-tailored suit, making him look even more noble and unattainable. Sophie, clutching a crumpled bag, forced a smile and toasted me:

“I didn't expect that we were not only college best friends, but now we've both married into the Gu family. Today, I congratulate you on giving birth to such lovely sons, Claire.”
“I also hope that I can be as lucky as you and give birth to a son in one go .”
Her glass hung in the air,but I didn’t clink. Her smile faltered.
With Nathan beside me,she didn’t dare cause trouble, She could only awkwardly take back the glass.

Our surface peace was over.
Months later, Sophie gave birth to a daughter.
When I had my twins, Mr.Sterling gave me twenty percent of the company’s shares.
But when Sophie delivered, Ethan walked out upon hearing it was a girl. Just Mrs.Sterling stayed to care for her.
Sophie didn’t blame Ethan for not marrying her. Instead, she called to curse me:
“Happy now? I had a daughter, and you’ve got two sons. I’ll never outdo you.”
I replied calmly,”Why are you always fixated on me?Besides, I didn’t make you have a girl. What’s there to be happy about?”
Sophie didn’t answer, nor did she confront Ethan.
As expected, she became even more attentive to him, even using banned drugs to conceive again.
After my postpartum recovery,I wanted to work, but Nathan’s control issues flared. He wanted me stay at home and wait for him obediently.
After a quarrel, he finally compromised and let me be his secretary.
His company was now fully stateside,so I agreed.
Unexpectedly, I ran into Sophie on my first day at work.
She froze,as did I.
In the past year, her attempts to climb the ladder failed. Her daughter only earned her a manager role.
When she learned that I became the CEO's secretary just by acting coquettishly, she even snapped the pen in her hand.
“Claire,why you?”
I looked at her, feeling somewhat confused
Why me?
Because I got into Harvard at seventeen, studied at an Ivy League grad school, and developed revolutionary software at nineteen.
If I hadn’t fallen for Nathan’s obsessive charm, I’d be worth billions, sitting in the CEO’s chair, not playing secretary.
I didn’t spare Sophie a glance and walked straight past her.
In the evening,I told Nathan about Sophie’s outburst as a joke.
He paused, then said,”Baby,I just remembered where I’ve seen Sophie before.”
