The Harper family's rise attracted many impostors over the years.
Some even bribed former servants for scraps of information to deceive them.
So when Emily came, they did a DNA test even though she had the heirloom and marks.

My father started to get suspicious.
"Young lady, who sent you?"
"Why pick today, of all days?"
I found it absurd. At that moment, Daniel's parents came out.
The moment I saw Daniel, I frowned instinctively.
"Were you the one who brought Emily to the Harpers?"

All eyes turned to him. His mother was angry.
"What kind of con artist are you?"
"My son met Emily after she was found."
"Stop talking nonsense!"

Seeing her certainty, I studied Daniel and Emily's faces and then smiled.
"By the water, lots of trees, birds, northwest, a crossroad."
"That's where you first met, right?"
"No more than thirty miles away."
"That'd be Lakeview Park by Willow Island, isn't it?"
Daniel's father was about to scold me, but he noticed his son's lowered head.
"Daniel, what's going on?"
Daniel stayed silent. I smirked.
"I'm lucky. After I got lost, I was adopted and learned divination."
"If you don't admit it, I can say more."
"But then, I can't promise your secrets will stay secret."
Daniel panicked.
"Yes!"
"I took Emily to the Harpers."
"Daniel, what's this about?" his mother demanded, grabbing his arm.
"You never told us!"
Daniel glanced at Emily, explaining," I was passing by, and Emily clung to me, refusing to let go."
"She insisted she was the Harper heiress, showing me a jade pendant."
"I thought it was real, so I helped her."
He suddenly grew confident.
"So what if I helped?"
"The DNA test proves Emily's the heiress!"
"This woman's shady—maybe she heard I helped Emily and is lying!"
His accusations made me frown. The chaos was palpable.
Perhaps due to the calamity, I couldn't read their faces as well as I usually could. Emily and Daniel seemed to be hiding something.
Especially between them—a blurry double bond.
"Shady motives?"
I sighed, shaking my head.
"I didn't want it to come to this."
I pulled a document from my bag and tossed it to Nathan.
The words DNA Test made everyone's faces change.
