The venom in Jack's glare told me everything-Emily had been constantly filling his head with the idea how our family looked down on him.
Playing dumb, I tilted my head. "Why would you think that?"
He looked at me, narrowing his eyes, and his words were full of anger. "Isn't it? Rich bitches like you? I know how you talk about guys like me when no one's listening. Stop pretending!"
He didn't believe my words. As he spoke, he kicked a cigarette butt on the ground and stomped on it.
I fought the urge to gag, keeping my face carefully neutral as I stepped closer and said in a low voice, "You've got it backwards. We weren't rejecting you-we were afraid that Emily would be as fickle as she used to be."
He glared at me and said, "The fuck's that supposed to mean?"
I sighed, "For Emily, one week it's ballet lessons, the next it's photography. She falls hard and fast, then loses interest. I'm afraid she'll be the same this time. We just don't want her breaking your heart when she moves on to her next obsession. It won't be good for either of you."
"So I thought I'd better warn you. You two can make your decision later. If you two are really serious, don't let us stop you! Get married tomorrow for all I care."
Jack's face darkened.I don't know what he was thinking, but he looked even more fierce.
Time to twist the knife, so I smiled and added, "As for your career, you're still young, have plenty of opportunities. Things will definitely get better in future. If there's anything you can't solve, come to me, family helps family, right?"
Jack's expression showed subtle relaxation when he heard my words, but his eyes were still cold.
I didn't say anything more and turned to leave.
As soon as Emily saw me enter, she immediately stood up.
In such a short time, she had obviously already figured out her next phase.
"Mom, Dad, Sis, since you've already agreed, then I'll go discuss plans with Jack."
When she looked at us, her saccharine smile didn't reach her dagger-sharp eyes.
It seemed that she was really afraid that I would tell Jack too much that it might ruin her plan.
Seeing her walking out in a hurry and whispering to Jack, I followed her.
Her expression froze, as she turned me away, but I simply ignored her.
In an easy manner, I told them to take their time and urged them to inform us when they had chosen their big day.
Jack seemed really eager to tie Emily down.He was very satisfied with my words.
Ignoring Emily's stiff and hateful gaze,I happily went back home.
By the talk I had with Jack, the next time Emily tried to smear our family again, he would definitely have some doubts and wouldn't be easily fooled as he was in the last life.
As long as he wouldn't caused us trouble, I will have time to deal with Emily.
In the living room, my mom and dad sat ramrod straight on the sofa, their expressions grim.
"Start talking," Dad ground out. "Tell us, why were you so unusual today?"
My mother also chimed in, "It's like you before, You've always been the voice of reason. What changed?"
To the people who raised me, any bit of abnormality couldn't be hidden from them.
No need to hide it. I directly replied, "Dad, Mom, it's obvious that Emily isn't sincere towards that man. You've both seen it too."
"She's using that thug as a weapon. The moment he murders us all, she'll take all of our family's property and be on the first train back to her real family."
