Holding me,he murmured,"Eva,I promise I'll make up for you with a perfect wedding anniversary.Please believe me,okay?"
Iris rushed in front of the car and blocked his way,spreading her arms."Finn,you can't leave!"
Finn looked at her coldly."Move out of the way."
"No!"Iris shook her head wildly."I swear I won't miss you this time.And I've promised not to interfere with your exploration career anymore!"
Finn's face darkened.He gently placed me in the back seat and then pushed Iris aside."You've already caused Eva's death.Don't block our way home!"
"Eva is dead?"Iris frowned,her voice full of disbelief."You must have been fooled by her!"
There was a hint of impatience in Finn's eyes."Iris,what exactly do you want to say?"
"I'm saying Eva isn't dead at all.She's just pretending!Now that I'm back,she's afraid I'll take you away,so she's playing the victim to win you back!"Iris shouted towards the back seat,as if trying to provoke me.
Finn's expression grew even uglier,but Iris got more and more excited.
"You don't know this,but she's always been a bitch.She pretended to be my best friend,but behind my back,she was always stealing my boyfriends from me!"
"Finn,do you remember how come that you could join Professor Wang's team in the first place?"
I never expected Iris to bring this up.
Back in college,Finn,who majored in design,first developed an interest in exploration.He desperately wanted to join Professor Wang's research team but was rejected because he had no experience.
Seeing him so depressed,I recommended him to the professor whenever I had the chance,since I was already on the team.Finally,the professor made an exception,and Finn became the only student from a different major to be admitted.
Finn was very grateful to me and mentioned several times that he wanted to treat me to dinner.But at that time,he was still dating Iris,so I told him he got in because of his own talent and also because Iris had put in a good word for him.
Still,it made Iris suspicious of me.
"Finn,think about it.Professor Wang had always refused to accept students from other majors.Why did he suddenly change his mind?It must be because Eva used some dirty tricks to make him agree!"Seeing Finn's silence,Iris became even more carried away,adding fuel to the fire with her own speculations.
"Enough!"Finn suddenly looked up,glaring at Iris with hatred in his eyes."You've really disappointed me.Eva is dead,and you're still slandering her.Have you no conscience at all?"
"Slandering her?"Iris's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Finn,I'm telling the truth!Eva is a scheming woman.She did whatever it took to approach you and stole you away from me!"Iris shouted hysterically.
Finn couldn't take it anymore.He raised his hand and slapped Iris hard.
"You're insane!"Finn glared at her furiously clearly feeling disgusted that she could say something like that.
Iris covered her face with her hands,and tears streamed down.
"Finn,you slapped me for that fraud, that liar?"she sobbed,her voice full of grievance and heartbreak.
Suddenly,she rushed towards the back seat."I don't believe Eva is dead!She's faking it.She can fool you,but not me!"
