“Scumbag! Pretending to be ‘friends’ with your mistress. Thought you two were a couple—turns out she’s the mistress! You deserve it!”
“Your wife miscarried, and you’re snuggling her? You totally deserve it!”
"Scumbags! Disgusting!”
Ethan couldn’t look up. I gave my ultimatum, “Ethan, I have intimate photos of you two, thanks to Sophie’s daily posts. Think I won’t expose you?”
“Tomorrow, I’ll send them to your family!”
Sophie shrieked, “You wouldn’t dare!”
“I dare, because you seduced him! You don’t sign, I’ll make this the ugliest thing ever. Let’s see how you’ll survive it!”
Ethan was scared, he had a job, and Sophie’s family was reputable—her parents were teachers. He couldn’t fight, agreeing, “Fine, I’ll sign!”
“Tomorrow, 10 a.m., courthouse. No show, and I post everything online!”
I stormed out.
Sophie sobbed behind, Ethan comforting her as they left, leaning on each other.
I exhaled, free at last.
I got the divorce with half his assets—$230,000.
That was his compensation. His parents, however, exploded, visiting the next day with gifts.
“My dear In-laws!”
Mom was unmoved, “No need for that. The kids are divorced. We’re not family anymore.”
She gave them no chance.
His mother laughed awkwardly, “These kids, always rushing things!”
“What else? Your Ethan’s heart strayed. We should cling to him, degrade ourselves?”
“No need for old-school nonsense. Let them be—good match, no loss for you!”
Mom dropped a bomb, tossing them my evidence, “Look! Perhaps I come from another time, but personally I’ve never seen such shamelessness!”
“We’ve already spared you, not exposing all these. Don’t make me do anything!”
His mother wilted, dropping the act.
“But $230,000?”
Mom snorted, “What, you feel wronged? You’re the wrongdoers, you pay!”
“Emily’s only too kind. If it’s up to me, he’d be bankrupt! And now you’ve got the nerve to ask for money? Get lose!”
Dad roared, “Cheating scum whining? Your family’s rotten! Get out!”
Dad, ex-military, grabbed a mop—fresh from the bathroom, reeking—and swung.
His mother screamed, “You’re all barbarians!”
“Yeah, and this barbarian’ll hit your son and you!”
I waved my fist. She fled, his father silent.
