"You'd be much happier if you didn't dwell on this question."
I couldn't possibly tell her that I was a dream-eating tapir and that I was born with the ability to make people dream.I could only try my best to persuade her.
But it seemed that Emily wasn’t convinced.
"I'm someone special."
"He even used my favorite flowers when he proposed."
"He loves me the most.So why can't I even do the most basic thing of helping him sleep?"There were tears in Emily's eyes.
"This doesn't mean anything. Is it worth it for you to do all this for him?"I frowned and looked coldly at the person huddled in the corner.
Emily was already thin, and now huddled in the corner, she looked even more like a tenacious little bird.
"It's worth it.I want to prove that I'm the special one too."
I really felt like I was talking to a brick wall. But seeing her obsessive look,I finally agreed to a reconciliation.
She was a girl so trapped by love.If I let her be detained again, she would really hate me to the core and might go down the wrong path. After all,the root cause of this matter wasn't her but Michael.
On the first day I returned to the hospital,my colleagues all gave me a knowing smile when they saw me.
I soon understood the meaning of that smile.
I was busy from morning until evening.I just had a simple sandwich in the consultation room at noon and then continued with the treatment.
Everyone left the consultation room with a satisfied smile.
I gradually realized that during the past eight years,my efforts for Michael, which were the least valued things in his heart, were actually very important to others.
I felt sorry for myself, but thinking that now Michael was in a state between life and death,I gradually felt a sense of pleasure.
When I finished work and went to the parking garage,I was about to drive home.In front of my car,I saw a familiar figure.
Michael was so weak that he could barely stand straight. He was extremely pale.
When he saw me,he actually knelt down and even kowtowed to me.I had never seen such a scene before.I was stunned for a second and then quickly went up to pull him up.
Michael let out soft sobs.
"I was really wrong,Lily. Please,is there any way for me to get some sleep?"
For someone constantly in despair all the time, perhaps they would get used to it after a while. But for someone constantly in despair and then suddenly has hope, they will always be haunted by that hope.
They can neither escape the quagmire they are in nor give up the hope in their hearts.
I smiled at Michael and told him to wait. Then I took out some candies from the car that I had prepared to combat low blood sugar.
I stuffed the candies into Michael's hand.
"Eat one before going to bed tonight and put an aromatherapy diffuser by your bedside."
"Come to me if you still can't sleep."
Michael gave me a grateful smile and then turned around and vanished into the parking lot.
That night, I specifically paid attention to Michael's dream state. With strong psychological cues, his dream bubble was a little bigger than before, but it was still much smaller compared to that of a normal person. I expanded his dream bubble and put a good dream into it.
As expected,a sharp pain shot through my waist.Any help without proper authorization was considered a violation of the rules of the dream-eating tapirs and would be punished.
Michael would probably remember this good dream for the next six months.
