The letter crumpled in my white-knuckled grip as I hesitated to open it.
I dreaded finding her final goodbye inside—I'd rather believe she'd just run away.
My parents died in a car crash when we were kids. Since then, it had been just the two of us against the world.
Our relatives circled like vultures around our inheritance, but I'd protected my sister and raised her myself.
When Spencer and I first got together, he'd listened to our story, held me close, and promised:
"Your sister is my sister now. I'll protect her like family."
Years later, when childhood complications led to kidney failure, she needed a transplant.
Spencer had used his connections to find a compatible donor overseas.
I'd wept with gratitude, believing my sister finally had a chance.
Spencer had stroked my hair, whispering:
"I told you not to worry. I'll take care of everything."
But then he became Charlotte Lane's puppet.
For her sake, he'd weaponized my sister's illness, driving her to desperation.
Hatred burned through me as I answered coldly:
"Fine. Set up the livestream. I'll make your statement."
Charlotte connected with me, her voice dripping with fake sweetness:
"Ms. Taylor, thank you so much for clearing things up. I hated to involve you, but Spencer was worried about the negative press."
Spencer gazed at her adoringly:
"I told you I'd handle it, babe."
I ignored Spencer completely, addressing Charlotte with icy politeness:
"Happy to help."
Spencer had prepared a fake divorce certificate dated six months earlier.
I held up the certificate, watching Spencer and Charlotte visibly relax.
Just as they exchanged smug smiles, I spoke each word with crystal clarity:
"This divorce certificate is completely fake. My husband, Spencer Sinclair, has been cheating on me with Charlotte Lane!"
"He even threatened my sister's life to force me into covering up their affair!"
The livestream chat exploded as Spencer's face turned ashen.
Comments flooded in:
"That certificate doesn't even have an official stamp! Total fake!"
"Charlotte Lane: America's Sweetheart in public, homewrecker in private!"
"Sinclair's just as bad. I wouldn't let that snake near my face with a scalpel!"
Most comments tore into Charlotte for knowingly sleeping with a married man.
But Spencer deserved the real blame—he was the one who'd broken his vows.
I met Spencer's horrified gaze with ice in my eyes:
"I told you your punishment was just beginning."
