Chapter 1: Downfall

I stood on the deck of the luxury cruise ship, feeling the sea breeze tousle my long hair. On our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband Michael Davis had spent the entire evening glued to his assistant, Mia Brown.

"Enjoying the view?" Michael suddenly appeared behind me, his tone deceptively gentle.

"So you finally have time for me?" I turned around, only to see Mia had shadowed him over.

"This is our anniversary. There shouldn't be outsiders." I stared directly at Mia, my voice tight with barely contained anger.

Michael's face darkened. "Ms. Brown is here for work purposes," he said, his tone as cold as the nighttime sea.

"Work purposes? For five damn years, she's been at every important occasion!" My voice began to tremble. "What exactly do you take me for?"

"Watch your tone." Michael's eyes flashed with impatience. "Don't forget who elevated you from nobody to Mrs. Davis."

"So I should be eternally grateful and turn a blind eye to whatever you do?"

In the midst of our argument, I felt a powerful shove against my back. I whirled around in terror, catching only my husband's icy stare and Mia Brown's smug smile.

As I plummeted, the diamond necklace around my neck snapped. The freezing seawater swallowed my consciousness, and before darkness claimed me, I had only one thought: five years of marriage had been nothing but an elaborate lie.
