'Alexander. . ." She whimpered.
'It is okay, Sapphire," He replied, staring at her with sad eyes, it hurts him to see her like that. He wondered what she heard over the phone that made her almost lose it like this.
'No. It is not okay." She said with pause in between her words. 'He told me now, he said that. . ." The word got caught in her throat, she was pointing at the phone that was on the floor. He stared at it before bending down to pick it up.
He raised the phone and saw that the screen had cracked but it was still functioning. Max 's call came through and he accepted the call. It was probably him that talked to Sapphire just now.
He had got Zayn's men to track her down, they told him where they saw her car and he followed her, he had been standing at a distance as she sat down alone on the stairs, he didn't dare to go to her solely because he respected her wish.
He could only keep his eyes on her from a short distance, he started advancing towards her when she started screaming, she looked so distraught and upset, but when he saw her almost falling to the ground he broke into a full sprint.
'Hello, Sapphire? Are you alright?" He heard Max's voice, it was frantic with worry.
'This is Alexander. Sapphire needed some time alone, I am with her so don't worry," he answered and Max exhaled in relief. 'What did you tell her that made her very upset?"
'I was trying to stop others from telling her but as it turns out I am the one doing the telling, I honestly thought she had known about it or Melissa had told her. That's why I informed her to come to the hospital because grandmother is dead." Max explained and Alexander sighed.
'Grandmother, tell him to tell you where she is. I have to see her one last time, Xander. I really have to," She muttered and he nodded, still hugging her close to himself.
'You would see her," he answered and she nodded. 'Where are you Max?"
'At the hospital, being there since she was rushed in the morning."
'Perfect, text me the hospital right now. I would be there with Sapphire shortly. She would like to see her grandmother one last time."
'Alright," He said and disconnected the call, he was leading Sapphire to the car when the phone rang.
He made her seat and she used her seatbelt herself, he got into the driver's seat and drove them away from the amusement park.
--------------------
Melissa sat there with a blank expression as people walked past her, it was in a kind of big blur and she didn't bother to understand anything.
Her grandmother is dead, and every trouble she would cause her is gone with her.
Why on earth didn't she feel anything?
She thought that if one day Madam Emiliana died, she would be euphoric and on top of the world, maybe a little bit of sadness but she won't be mourning for a month and staring at her picture with a loving expression.
Now that it has turned into reality, it feels hollow and void. She wasn't happy nor was she sad, no tranquility or pain, she didn't feel like she does every day either.
Her mother was sitting beside her with a straight face. She is not sad about the woman's death but she definitely is not happy either.
Venita glanced at Melissa and her mother in suspicion, with that empty eyes and straight blank face, they were definitely suspicious. Another red flag is the fact that it was Melissa that announced that something is wrong with Madam Emiliana that morning, she could swear with her life that she had heard Melissa and the old woman arguing.
They had been arguing a lot ever since Madam Emiliana announced that she wanted Sapphire to be the General Manager at the company and she had threatened the old woman more than once.
The recent one was five days ago when she threatened a woman, she had said that he would send her to hell in order to get her out of her way.
Venita was definitely going to be doing a lot of digging around, she has to satisfy her curiosity.
Arielle who had been sitting on the other side of Melissa sat up and pointed to the door. Unlike those she was sitting with who had a calm expression and straight face, her expression was that of a troubled woman, with slightly messy hair, red eyes and dry lips with no lipstick and her in her pajamas, she looked at every word of a woman who just lost a close person to her.
She was glued to Melissa's side like they were one and had been trying to talk to her even though the bitch was ignoring her.
Venita turned her head to look at whatever it was that she was pointing at and she couldn't help the scoff that fell from her lips when she saw Sapphire coming in with her husband, she sure loves flaunting him around.
She looked like a ghost that had been run over with that haunted expression that was draped on her face, she still look good in the casual wears she had on and she was leaning against Alexander for support, there were dry lines on her cheeks that indicated that she had cried that day, Venita wondered if it was because of her grandmother or something else. Alexander looked quite troubled too.
'How nice of you to finally show your face here. I called you a lot of times that I lost count, you were definitely ignoring the call because you have your phone right there with you," Arielle snapped at her but Sapphire didn't bother to banter with her.
'Quit it Arielle, now is not the time to wonder about how many times you called her," Max said and Arielle glared at him.
'Shut up you. You claim to love her with every piece that makes you but you are not even there when she dies. She kept muttering your name till life left her, poor old woman," Arielle said and Sapphire glared at her but didn't talk.
'Keep quiet Arielle. Now is not the time for that," Matthew said to Arielle, coming out of the room the older woman was in. Arielle only pouted and rolled her eyes at him, Venita wondered why on earth Sapphire was ignoring the man, and they used to smile like some bunch of idiots whenever they saw each other. True, now is not the time to show their teeth but they were at least supposed to comfort each other.
'This way Sapphire, she is in this room," Max told her and she nodded, Alexander guiding her to the room, it was she was the only one the man could see.
--------------------------
'Granny," Sapphire said but got no response, she called her name the second time again but still got no response. She moved closer to her and tapped her hand, it was already cold and stiff.
Sapphire stared at the woman lying on the bed, you would think that she was sleeping if you hadn't been informed already that she had given up the ghost, her lifeless face was glued to Sapphire's mind like a branded image.
'Is it true that she kept muttering my name till the time of her death? Why wasn't I there? I already forgive her for what she did. She would wake up and tell us that it is a trick to get me to forgive her right?" She asked and they just stared at her. 'Grandmother," her voice was now frantic with desperation as she moved her face closer to the woman's.
'Wake up, grandmother!" She yelled and burst into tears, her cries of pain were heart wrenching and filled with grief, resonating loudly through the empty V.I.P Ward that only had the Conrad family and Alexander on its floor.
