Both of them sat in comfortable silence, rocking back and forth.
'Do you want to talk to your grandmother?" He asked and she paused before nodding.
He reached for her phone and handed it to her, she collected the phone with shaky hands.
She stared at the phone and exhaled heavily, he squeezed her shoulder and nodded encouragingly.
She inhaled and dialed her grandmother's contact, it rang for a bit and Sapphire felt like an eternity has passed in that space of thirty seconds, time has never felt slower.
'Sapphire?" She heard the voice of her grandmother and her breath caught in her throat. She was not ready for her to admit it no matter how strong the font she put on it was.
'Sapphire," Alexander said softly, nudging her shoulder.
'I am listening, are you alright darling?" Madam Emiliana asked and the care in her voice brought angry tears to her eyes.
How much of it is fake?
'Is it true?" She finally asked, her voice hoarse and small but firm, she was determined to know.
'What are you talking about?" Madam Emiliana asked but they could hear the slight tremble in her voice.
'Melissa told me," she whispered like it was a secret and her grandmother gasped inaudibly. 'How much of it is true?" She continued when the woman still didn't reply to her.
'I am so sorry Sapphire. I was delusional, the only thing that was coursing through my mind at that time is getting you safe. I didn't even think about how hurt you would be, I just wanted him gone. I . . ." She replied with equal measure of exasperation and desperation, tinged with fear but trailed off as if she realized something.
'Whatever I am telling you probably sounds like an excuse," She continued but her voice was now filled with pain and regret.
'How much of it was true?" Sapphire asked instead.
'I am sorry Sapphire. I understand if you hate me, trust me _ there is probably no way you would trust me again. But I am saying this with every ounce of truth in my soul, I regret the day I started that plan, I regret letting you go through that."
'How much of it was true?!" She yelled into the phone with anger. She didn't want to hear any story she had for her, she wanted no excuse, and it didn't matter if she was telling the truth with every single fiber in her body or if she was lying through gritted teeth.
She just wanted to know what she asked.
'Everything is true." Madam Emiliana said with a firm voice and a strangled sob broke through her lips. 'But I hate Sapphire, I don't. . ."
'I hate you more than you would ever hate, grandma. Enjoy the rest of the twenty four hours knowing that."
She said and didn't bother to listen to the rest of whatever lies she had to feed her before disconnecting the call.
She threw the phone on the bed and hugged him tightly, he also wrapped his hand around her to provide the comfort she needed.
'Did you mean that?" He asked and she shook her head.
'I don't know." She replied before pausing and shaking her head. 'Actually I know. I know that I can never hate her no matter what she does, I would resent her, yell at her, feel frustrated at her choices, angered by her actions but even heaven knows that I can't loathe her," she let out a dry chuckle. 'Pathetic right?"
'No, it is not pathetic. That makes two of us," he said and she raised her head to stare at him in confusion. 'Believe it or not Sapphire, no matter what you do to me, evil or good. I could never hate you." He said caressing her check, his eyes tracing every line and curve of her face.
'Alexander…"
'It is a fact not words to make me feel better."
'Then I assure you that I would ever hurt you," She said and shuffled around before finally laying her head on his lap. 'I am so happy to have you in my life now, it makes a lot of things easier to deal with. Where have you been since all these days?"
'It wasn't the right time for me to come into your life, if it was, trust me. I would have been there. I believe that there is nothing like coincidence and bad luck, everything happens for a reason. Even the things that make us want to slip into oblivion." He said and she smiled.
'I like listening to you."
'Then do me a favor of always telling me when things get out of your control, I would be right there by your side, taking every step with you," He told her and she nodded before raising her pinky finger, he raised a brow at her.
'Pinky promise?" She asked drowsily, when he didn't do anything. The migraine was making her tired and dizzy, she he just wanted to sleep.
He chuckled and linked their fingers together.
'That is a promise. Close your eyes and sleep, you need to take care of your headache. I will be right here when you wake up."

'It is so nice of you to tell Sapphire about everything you told me you would say to her," Madam Emiliana said to Melissa who only rolled her eyes at her.
She ran her eyes over her figure and shook her head at how pathetic she got because Sapphire probably told her to go to hell.
Her eyes were red and her cheek was flushed, she kept adjusting her glasses and sniffing every now and then. It is very obvious that she cried, what a baby she was being.
'Now . . . now, grandmother. I saved you the horror of having to go through all the effort and error of telling her by yourself. Who knows? She may try to claw out your eyes when you try to explain to her. She is bat shit crazy." Melissa said with a shrug and Madam Emiliana glared at her.
'What are you doing in my study? I don't want you here." She asked and Melissa scoffed.
'I would be straight forward since you didn't try to say that nicely," Melissa paused and her expression turned serious. 'You are going to make me the General Manager now, aren't you?" She asked and Emiliana shook her head at her in disbelief.
'What makes you think that you have any right to that position?" She asked instead and Melissa scoffed. 'I didn't say anything about giving that position to you. You certainly didn't leave your ears in your room when I told you all in that conference room that Sapphire is going to be the new General Manager."
'Are you kidding me right now grandmother? We both know that now that Sapphire now knows all that you did to her was because you wanted her to be strong and emotionless enough when she became the CEO of the company, do you think she would still accept that position from you with a broad grin?" Melissa asked and Madam Emiliana turned to stare at the monitor, ignoring her granddaughter.
'You are still not getting it Melissa, save up your energy for presentations and meetings you have later today," She said with finality and Melissa fisted her hand in anger.
She was dissing her for working her ass off for the family company and also letting her know that she would never give her the post she wants.
'You have no right to do that to me, I am sacrificing my life for the company and you know it. What you are doing is not right, it is unfair!" She screamed in exasperation, why is the old woman still not giving up.
'What is wrong," Madam Emiliana said and raised her head to glance at her stubborn granddaughter. 'Are you going ahead and telling Sapphire all that in the most hurtful way possible?"
'Is this all about Sapphire again? Just what that bitch did to make you want to lick the sole of her shoes. She is just a disgusting and pathetic idiot who_" Melissa ranted on with hatred but her grandmother cut her off.
'You said that treating you like this is unfair? No you are wrong. What is really unfair is the fact that you feel no remorse for doing all those things you did to her.
You still stand on the fact that you are right. That is what is called unfair, not the childish tantrum you cause because you are being punished."
'Being Punished?" Melissa asked as if she couldn't believe her ears. Was her grandmother kidding right now? 'All of this denial of my right is punishment for some sin you made up in your head that I committed. Are you fucking with me?"
'You never stopped me when I was fucking with Sapphire by saying all I am doing was for her own good, you shouldn't stop me when I feel that it is your turn to be punished. Melissa I know that there is no other person capable of forcing you to do something except me and that way would be the best bet to make you go scot free.
I won't allow that," Madam Emilliana said with equal level of agitation.
'Well I refuse this punishment!" Melissa said in hysteria.
'It is not up to you. As long as I am still breathing Melissa, I promise that you would never have it your way. I owe Sapphire that much." Madam Emiliana replied and Melissa felt a hot fury course through her body, she felt so frustrated and angry at the same time.
'Then stop breathing and go to hell!" She screamed and advanced towards the older woman in uneven steps with the golden birdlike sculpture that she got for the company as the best rising company at a gala and Award Night. She had grabbed it from the table with murderous intent in her mind, she was blinded by rage and her only purpose was to send the old woman away from her way, to hell,to death, to wherever would get her away from her sight.
