Chapter 110: She Had No Right To Hurt Him

1475words
Melissa stared at the gallery and crinkled her nose in distaste, why on earth would someone ever spend most of their days here?

She tried to build the passion when she and Matthew were knitted but she couldn't bring herself to find the feeling that makes that weird look come to their eyes, she simply sees a tree when an artist draws a tree, nothing more, nothing less.

That wasn't what brought her and Matthew apart though, they only laughed about it, he had called her uncultured rat and she had called him sophisticated bear and they spent their good times doing things of their interest.

'I would like to see Ms. Claire … what the fuck is her last name again?" She asked herself, she was standing in front of the receptionist and she forgot that.

The receptionist just stared at her and Melissa was thankful for that, she would have yelled at her if she had said anything.

'You seem to be looking for something," she heard behind her and she turned to the familiar voice.

'Good, you save me some stress. I would like to have a cup of tea with you," Melissa told Claire who was standing in front of her, she didn't seem surprised to see her there.

Either she was expecting her to come or she had seen her from afar and gathered herself, Melissa was pretty sure that it was the latter.

Then they found themselves sitting opposite each other in a cafe that wasn't too far from the gallery, it wasn't up to Melissa's standard but it would have to do.

'What do you want?" Claire asked, straightforwardly.

'Get the hell away from Matthew," Melissa didn't bother to beat around the bush.

'And why would I do that?" Claire asked, crossing her hand over her chest, Melissa also crossed her leg over the other, both maintaining an intimidating stance while staring dead I to the other's eyes.

'Because I say so. Do you need any other reason?" Melissa asked.

'I am afraid that's not the reason," Claire replied.

'I really messed up Sapphire, do you want to know the reason why?" Melissa asked but Claire just kept staring at her. 'I set Heather up against her, made Oliver leave her, turned her to a druggie in front of the mass, kicked her out of the family and turned her life to hell. Don't you want to know the reason why?"

'How about you spit it out so that we can get the hell out of here, I am a busy person in case you don't know," Claire told her.

'You like Matthew in a romantic way," Melissa said, it wasn't an accusation nor a question, it was a fact and Claire didn't try to deny it.

'He would never return your feelings," she told her and Claire raised a brow at her. 'He hardly had any lover throughout his highschool and college days, when he did they didn't last up to two months. He kept picking them and dropping them, because they weren't the person he wanted.

He hated both Oliver and Alexander, he fled when Sapphire tried to get married and tried to convince her out of it every time.

Every time at home, every single time, he always took Sapphire's side, went against his mother for her and supported all through her high school years

He is also trying so desperately to get back into Sapphire's good grace, to be at her side and to get her to smile at him like she used to.

Do you know why?" She asked.

'What are you trying to say bitch?!" Claire yelled at her, she had an idea but she didn't want to jump to conclusion - a part of her did not want to believe it.

'You already figured it out Claire, you just don't want to admit it. I would do the favor and spell it out for you. Matthew is in love with Sapphire, head over heels for her, I-would-gladly-burn-the-world-for-you kind of love." She paused to let it sink in Claire's head.

'And our beautiful Sapphire never glances at the poor soul in that way, not even once. She is so obsessed with Oliver and talks about him to Matthew while not realizing the man's pain.

He boarded a plane as soon as Sapphire and Oliver picked the wedding date, he couldn't stand seeing her get married to someone that's not him.

Found out the man's a scumbag and tried to be there for her but our dear Cinderella had disappeared from the surface of the earth just like I asked her to.

He came back as soon as he heard that she was back but our dear friend, who had become engaged to Mr. Aldine, was practically living in his house.

He also discovered that she now hates him or maybe she just didn't like him anymore, he was clinging unto the bond they had as friends so he couldn't let that go, that why he is trying to get in her good grace, he would stop at nothing even if it includes using her friend," Melissa explained.

'He is her cousin," Claire said.

'Adopted cousin. Adopted," Melissa replied. 'Our dear Aunt Brielle couldn't bother herself with marriage so she took a kid from the orphanage and raised him well."

'So what does all these have to do with me? You are not giving a friendly warning, are you?" Claire asked and Melissa snickered.

'Me and Matthews used to be the closest, we did almost everything together, until he started falling in love with Sapphire, maybe he always did but that was when he decided to act on it and became close with Sapphire leaving me alone, all alone, the idiot was sucking up all the attention that was on her, she had Oliver, Nicholas, Maxwell, Granny, all Oliver's friend, most of them from the social circle, why couldn't she have just let Matthew alone,"

'So we are having a pity party? You practically ruin your sister for something she had no idea of? That sounds like a lot of nuts crack to me, you are crazy."

'Matthew has no chance with Sapphire, everyone knows that at this point and I am happy about it. Everything is good and Matthew will be back, at least that's what I thought until this lady started following him around too, with gooey eyes at that."

'You want him to be lonely,"

'No. I want him to be happy, he had enough of pinning after Sapphire, he should take a break. Being close to him doesn't give him that break."

'You are the one that should stop pinning after him, Matthew would never look at you the way you want him to."

'You are smart, I have to give you that," Melissa said, nodding in approval. 'But do you think that I don't know that? I love Matthew, albeit, a one sided on, unrequited love and I am fine with it, but then he had an unrequited love too,"

'I don't see the reason why you did all that to Sapphire. I mean, shouldn't you be happy that she was getting out of your way by getting married to Oliver? Why bother to ruin her?"

'Yeah, she was getting out of my way but she is making Matthew heartbroken, I love myself but I love Matthew more, she had no right to do that to him, she had no right to make him cry,"

'That was for waste, for god's sake she didn't know about his love!" Claire exclaimed.

'Didn't she? I think you should ask your friend before jumping to conclusions." She answered and Claire just stared speechless. 'If there's no more Oliver, then no more sad and angry Matthew."

'You are crazy," Claire said in disbelief and Melissa laughed, before she sat straight and stared dead into her eyes, a glare on her face.

'Stay away from Matthew," she warned her.

'Or what?"

'You should ask your friend how much what happened three years ago hurt her,"

'You were only able to hurt her like that because you are close to her, she is your sister,"

'Exactly my point! She is my sister, imagine how bad I hurt her even though she is my sister, who we are related by blood, we are family. Just what extent would I go for you, who is just a stranger, some pesky pest I want out of my way," Melissa asked with a smirk, before she stood up, carrying her designer bag.

'Get the fuck away from Matt," she told her one last time, paid the bills and catwalked out of the place leaving Claire speechless.

She took her phone out of her mini bag and shot a text to Matthew asking them to meet at the gallery.
