Chapter 97: As Expected of Them

Sapphire halted in her movement and stopped eating, holding the cutlery in her hand but there was no surprise of any sort on her face, she just stared at the plate blankly, the fact that all her movements halted was the only indicator that she wasn't aware of this decision that her grandmother made out of the blue.

'What?!" Melissa asked, standing up suddenly, her eyes wide in shock, staring from her grandmother to Sapphire and from Sapphire back to the woman.

'What are you talking about mother?" Felix asked, his eyes solely trained on his mother figure.

'I knew it," Arielle said under her breath, a scoff fell from her lips and she and Venita relaxed in their seats to watch the drama that would soon unfold. While Arielle wanted to observe the situation, Venita just thought that it would be fun.

'This is quite interesting," Venita said, a small smile on her lips, she was staring at Melissa's dumbfounded expression in amusement.

'What the… Sapphire of all people? You want her to become the general manager at a company she ignored all these while?" Marylynne asked. 'Does that make any sense to you?"

Maxwell, Matthew and Brielle just stared at them all, they didn't think it was time for them to involve themselves in the matter.

Madam Emiliana raised her to stare straight into their eyes with a raised brow, a frown on her face, she rested her back on the chair and dropped the cutleries she was using beside her plate and crossed her hand in front of her chest.

'What is wrong with that?" She asked and both Marylynne and Melissa stared at the woman in sheer disbelief. 'Is that position as the General Manager not enough? You want me to make her the CEO instead?"

'Something is wrong here, Mother!" Marylynne screamed at her mother-in-law. 'The only person who deserve a better or the best position in the company is Melissa, she is working her ass off for you day and night and what? Sapphire should come to the company and be the boss?"

Melissa turned to Sapphire and held her tightly on the shoulder, trying to make Sapphire stare up at her which the woman willingly did.

'You know about this right? You convinced granny to do this, didn't you?" Melissa asked, her eyes almost popping out of the socket because of how wide it was. She was angry, frustrated and convinced that Sapphire had some kind of business in this.

Sapphire smirked and let out a small evil chuckle before yanking her shoulder from Melissa's hand to glare at the woman.

'Are you crazy?" She asked calmly, looking like she had dealt with all this nonsense before and Melissa's anger rather irritated her than made her angry.

'You are not dishing out my daughter's right to that slut, by the gods, everyone knows that she sacrifices her all for it! So she is the only one that deserves it!" Marylynne insisted.

'Sometimes if the First Uncle gave birth to Sapphire outside marriage and had the second Aunt take care of her," Venita said, raising the glass of wine to her lips and Marylynne glared at her.

'You can't makes these kinds of decisions without informing anyone, the major shareholders would be pissed," Felix finally added when he got over the surprise her sudden announcement caused, for him, it was bad enough that he had to deal with the tricky and cunny ladies at the company, it wouldn't end well if the smart vengeful one was added to the list.

'You planned all this right? You want to snatch the company from me, I know that is what you came back to New York for and you just used getting engaged as an excuse!" Melissa said to Sapphire and the woman let out a small laugh, she drank the wine that was in the glass beside her plate before standing up.

She was the same height as Melissa which made her able to stare straight into her once upon a time sister's eyes.

'You really amuse me," She said and Melissa raised a brow at her. 'You didn't even bother to ask me if I wanted whatever it was that was offered before you start fighting over it like cat and mice, you all here," She said pointing at Felix, Arielle, Venita, Marylynne one after the other before finally stopping at Melissa.

'All of you are trying to prove that you are worthy, even though none of you said it directly, tsk, tsk, that's truly pathetic," Sapphire said, shaking her head at them.

Felix just stared at Sapphire, not bothering to say anything, he understood through her just how strong pain can make a person and even though it sounds impossible to even himself, he didn't want to get involved with her.

'No one asked for your opinion," Venita couldn't resist responding to the rude words Sapphire just said, Sapphire turned to look at her with a face that screamed ‘who the hell asked you to talk'.

'Unfortunately for both of us that was a fact, my opinion is worse but you are not worthy enough to hear it" She replied and turned back to Melissa. 'Now keep your mouth while I talk to your elders."

'That was good, you got that comeback right there," Andrea said, raising her hand to give her a thumbs up before turning back to the food she saw eating.

'Thanks sweetheart," Sapphire replied, smiling at her daughter before turning to his sister and the smile dropped from her face. 'I don't want any position in your company, Melissa, and let it sink into your damn brain that I don't need to work to get whatever you dream of having by being the CEO of the plant, I am not in the stupid rank that you are stuck in, my standard is higher, I mean I am now the CEO of SJay and a CEO is a CEO no matter what company it is isn't it?"

Venita stared at Sapphire in confusion and wondered what on earth she was yammering. Oliver never said anything about losing his company to this bitch, was she trying to get some honor by lying here?

'You are comparing that small company of yours to mine? Do you need to check the stats once again?" Melissa asked and Sapphire chuckled.

'Yours? What exactly is the meaning of ‘mine' if someone like ‘you' who hasn't even been born when the plant was created can address it possessively. You want to inherit the company Melissa, I built mine from the scratch with my sweat, time and cash, before it was snatched. SJAY is still thriving on my ideas, they don't have anything else left to expect from Oliver, SJAY can't stand without me! A company that wouldn't exist and would be nothing without you, that is what you call yours!" She told her and Melissa stared at her speechless and for the first time in her life, Sapphire truly felt like someone older and wiser than her.

'That would be you lying right through your teeth, you don't own SJAY!" Venita quickly inputs.

'I thought I told you to keep that dumpster shut while I try to talk to those whose brain cell are functioning a little more than your dead ones," Sapphire said, not sparing her a glance and both Andrea and Andrew started laughing out loudly, Maxwell quickly gave Andrew a glass of milk when he choked on his food, a small smile on his lips, he didn't bothered to hide it.

Matthew stared at Sapphire in amusement and was glad that he is not on the woman's bad side, even though he couldn't say that they were friends, Aunt Brielle stared at the scene in front of her, approval shining brightly in her eyes, she had heard that her niece had changed a lot but she didn't expect her to know how to put people in their place this perfectly.

Finally, this is the character she wanted from Sapphire all these years, the one she lost when she started dating Oliver fucking Gray which made her decide that she wouldn't involve herself in anything that had to do with her young niece, the attitude she had when she was still herself and not adjusting herself to fit a man's description.

The expected behavior of a woman raised by Brielle Conrad.
