Chapter 190

"This.. this is your answer."
I slowly let go of her. The anger that was fueling me inside was so much that I had to let her go to prevent myself from doing anything that may unintentionally hurt her
I started to pant hard.
"THAT BASTARD.. HOW DARE HE TOUCH YOU!"
My lust to kill that damned demon passed to the point that I have already killed him a thousand times in my head. I clenched my fists tightly and refused to show my face to her, lowering my head as I tried my best not to scare her off again.
I took a step back.
"Zyrus." She calls, her voice cracking. "Please just leave, I don't want to see you!"
I know.
"Do you know what could happen if you stay here a second more?! If they come back, there's a chance they'll detain you again!"
I know.
I know every doubt that she was thinking of right now. But more than what she feared, I was actually more afraid to part from her. Seeing her like this. Crying and wailing in front of me was enough to convince me that she has to leave with me.
"I don't care," I replied, finally raising my head. "Don't worry, before they could detain me, i'll fucking kill that bastard."
"Didn't you just heard what I said!"
"I heard you clearly."
"Then why are you acting stupid right now! We sent vampires to attack Center City, is this really the time for you to come here like this?! I thought you cared about your people, but look at you!"
I frowned. "We? There's no we. You're not part of any of this damned land."
"Zyrus!"
Tch.
There's no time to be arguing with her like this. Christal is a hard-headed woman, I doubt she'll back down just by looking at her expression. It was filled with sadness and fear, it was not something pleasing to look at.
I don't like seeing her in so much despair.
Although I really wanted to kill that guy already, getting her out of here comes first. I scooped her out immediately despite her struggle and rushed towards the door. I was about to turn the knob if it wasn't for the strong wind that broke up apart.
I slid away from her.
She's using magic again.
"How many times do we have to replay things like this?" She muttered lowly, her eyes slowly turning into anger. Christal's eyes were burning red and her hair turned white instantly.
I gulped, I don't really wanna fight her right now.
"If you don't want to leave, I'll make you leave." She growls.
"I don't want to fight."
"Then leave!"
"I also don't want to leave," I said firmly, not leaving her eyes that were filled with disbelief to what she's hearing right now. "We've been fighting each other all our lives, it's not because of the curse that we're like this. We're like this because you kept refusing me, Christal."
"I know it's my fault." Her tears started to fall that I started to panic.
I sighed briefly. "You misunderstood me. I'm not saying it's your fault, I'm encouraging you to choose me now, why not see how things will turn out?"
"What?" She said in disbelief. "You know our horrible fate! even without me running away from you, it will all eventually lead to that!"
"I don't believe in fate, I believe in destiny." I walked slowly towards her and noticed that she tried stepping back again, only to hit the wall behind her.
As soon as we were back from our original positions from earlier, I leaned to her shoulder, the exhaustion finally hitting me. I felt her stiffening when I wrapped my hands around her waist. "Christal, you don't have to endure everything alone. You don't have to sacrifice everything just for the people around you, it's okay to be selfish sometimes. Please, just this once, can't you lean on me?"
She was silent for a while, but it didn't take long when she hugged me back tightly and cried hard enough for her tears to reach the skin underneath my shirt.
I smiled.
It's not because I was happy to see her crying, but the thought that she was letting me be a shoulder for her to cry on was enough to satisfy me. I was relieved even though it was a small baby step to reconcile with her again.
Her hair turned back to its original color.
"Z-Zyrus, what do I do?" She continues to cry. "I don't know if I'm doing the right thing right now."
I sighed. "Right thing?"
"I don't want to get you involved in this!"
I chuckled, patting her back to calm her down. "Aren't I already involved? We're mates, it's natural for me to be there for you."
"B-But." She sniffs, her voice still in sorrow. "Don't you hate me? Charles touched me, and i'm the reason why your life is miserable right now. I'm even planning to kill you!"
"Haven't you been trying to kill me since day 1?"
"Zyrus! I'm not joking with you!" She slaps my back hard.
I let out a snicker and hugged her more tightly than before. "Although I don't get what's going on inside of that tiny head of yours, I don't care about your intentions. I know you've sacrificed a lot of things just to help me, so why can't you let me do the same?"
"But.. I wanted to kill you." She repeated. "Don't you know how the curse ends?"
This is not something I want to hear right now. Much more from her mouth. I frowned and slowly pulled away from her. "Let's stop talking for now, we have to get out of here before they come-"
"Zyrus!" She grabs my shoulder in desperation cutting me off from my thoughts. "Stop changing the subject! This is also the reason why we can't go back!"
"Christal, enough." I closed my eyes.
"Do you think I'm not selfish? I'm selfish! I don't want to be killed by mate!"
I was so furious that I accidentally punched the wall behind her, it cracked and that was the time she finally shut her mouth. All I could think of that time was how she could think like that?
How can she think that I can kill her?!
I lowered my fist to my side.
"You.. you really think I can hurt you?"
"You tried killing me several times before," She sighs. "Although you can't control yourself at those times, but that's it Zyrus. That's the curse, you won't be able to stop yourself, it's not gonna be based on your free will!"
I scoffed, not being able to comprehend how she said those words with a straight face. Can she not see how hurtful her words are? It was wrenching enough that she believed that damned curse, but what was worse than she's saying it straight to my face.
"I don't want to talk about this anymore." I clenched my fists, turning my gaze away from her.
"Zyrus, I know you won't leave even when I tell you to, but I really can't go right now. Not this time when I finally entered this place! so can you just trust me for now?"
"I told you I wouldn't leave without you right? I'll pretend I didn't hear all of that."
"Zyrus! Please!"
"No," I said firmly.
After going all the way here, and seeing her in this state. Does she think i can let her continue the torture she's enduring all by herself? She's thinner from the last time we met, there's even a strange mark on her neck that could be that damned demon's doing.
My eyes darkened in anger, i grabbed her shoulder and said. "If you think i'll leave you in this rotten place, then you better stop now."
"I'm doing this for us."
I was about to retaliate at her words when i sensed a familiar demon energy approaching us at full speed. I knew who he was so i turned away to stare at the door. My bloodlust oozing from all over my body.
I waited for the man to come, so i can rip him into shreds already.
"Zyrus?" Christal calls.
She calls me again, but i didn't respond as i waited for him to arrive. My claws already sharpening at the moment. But before i could even lay my eyes on him, a strange portal shined from the wall that i just punched, Christal grabbed my shirt in panic.
"What is that?"
My eyes widened. "I can sense godly mana."
Godly mana is the energy that all gods and goddesses have, they are the only ones that have this kind of energy. I don't know why I know this, but I could immediately tell it in an instant.
"Godly mana?" She asks, but her eyes changed when Charles finally appeared, she covers her mouth in shock before looking back at me.
Everything slowed down all of a sudden.
I was about to sprint towards that damned guy if it wasn't for her suddenly yanking my collar and swiftly using monstrous strength to throw me off to the portal beside us.
But before she could disappear from my sight, i grabbed her hand with me.
