Chapter 1: A Wedding Turned Funeral

I heard the familiar voice echoing in the church, only to find myself standing among the guests, rather than in the position of the bride. I blinked, and incredibly, the bride at the wedding was my most trusted best friend Sophia Parker, while the groom was Victor Thompson, my fiancé with whom I had spent a year preparing our wedding.
"This isn't possible..." I murmured, as cold fear crawled up my spine.
The faces of the guests suddenly twisted and distorted, all turning toward me in unison, repeating in eerie voices: "You're dead, Emily Wilson, you're already dead..."
That day should have been the happiest day of my life. Through the half-open church door, I saw Victor Thompson kissing Sophia Parker, and heard them plotting to seize my inheritance. I turned and ran toward the road, tears blurring my vision. After a piercing screech of brakes, my body was thrown into the air, my wedding dress scattering in the air like snow.
White wedding dress, red blood, black wheels. That's all I remember from my past life's final moments.
I woke up screaming, cold sweat soaking through my shirt.
"Miss Lin, are you alright?" a concerned voice pulled me back to reality.
I looked around, the Rainwood Corporation HR Department logo was prominently displayed on the wall, the calendar showed May 15, 2018—the day of my interview five years ago!
"I... I'm fine." I took a deep breath, my fingers touching my left ring finger, where there once was a diamond ring, but now there was nothing.
"Welcome to the Design Department of Rainwood Corporation." The interviewer smiled.
Walking out of the building, my phone rang, the screen displaying: Victor Thompson. Five years ago, this call was the beginning of our romance. Five years later, this man would cheat with my best friend at my wedding, causing me to die in a car accident.
"Hello, is this Emily Wilson? This is Victor Thompson, do you remember me? In college, we..."
"I remember you," I coldly interrupted, "and I remember everything you're capable of doing."
"What do you mean?" Victor Thompson asked confusedly.
"Nothing, just letting you know in advance that the game has begun." I hung up the phone, a cold smile curling at my lips.
This time, I won't be a lamb led to slaughter. This time, I will become the hunter who controls destiny.
I looked up at the towering building of Rainwood Corporation, where in the top floor office sat a man I never truly understood in my past life—Alexander Morgan. In my previous life, I had only met him once, not knowing how closely our fates were intertwined.
But this time, everything would be different.
