Chapter 246

I watched Sapphire’s expression as disbelief and surprise flashed in her eyes while completely stunned in her place, eyes moving up and down from me, seemingly scrutinizing my being. “W-whaaat?”
“I… I mean…” She stuttered when she got back to herself, quickly changing her expression to neutral, explaining further, “But you just… well…”
Uncomfortably, she motioned at the sofa. “You just did it with Mr. K, and then you’re implying that we have to rethink our transaction with him. It’s just sounded a little bit contradicting?”
I could hear the caution in her words as she tried to explain her part while ensuring I wouldn’t be offended as she voiced her thoughts, and I wasn’t.
She’s my Beta. I needed her to be as open as she could be with me because only then could we productively and effectively face everything in front of us.
I placed down the glass and kept a calm face as I replied, “What happened was just an accident. It won’t affect my work nor my relationship with him, which was nothing.”
Raising my head, I looked at her and earnestly said, almost vowing, “Such a thing won’t happen again.”
As soon as I said those with conviction, a string of pain was pulled in my heart.
I silently furrowed as I felt Trisha’s feelings rush within me. She’s upset…
“Why? He’s so fucking gooood!” Trisha complained.
I wanted to roll my eyes and scold her, but she kept on speaking. “Oh my gosh! His touches… Oh, and his hands! It’s almost a sin how perfect and good he was in pleasing us! His skills are so up par!”
“That’s a mistake!” I scolded her, trying to stop her desire to affect me.
Calming myself, I reasoned out, “Albert is our mate now. We made a mistake and betrayed him – his trust and love. We will marry Albert soon. That thing… it can’t happen again.”
I even made sure to strengthen my voice and make it firmer so she could feel my conviction as I reminded her of what’s more important than meaningless pleasure.
“Princess…”
Standing up, I raised my hand to gesture that it was final. “Enough, just remember to be cautious.”
With that, I went to the bathroom and took a long shower, letting the warm water drop cascade to my skin, which was still lingering with kiss marks and bruises.
I closed my eyes as I raised my head and felt the drips falling onto my face while my hand smoothly slid through my body, seemingly tracing those places that Mr. K had touched before, memories reflecting through mine over and over again.
It won’t happen again…
Those words repeated in my mind repeatedly with conviction as I reminded myself countlessly that it was just a one-time thing.
Wearing a new set of clothes, I went out and faced Sapphire, who immediately stood up from her seat. “Let’s discuss something in my office.”
Back to my office, the familiar lighting and environment made me calm down completely, and my mind returned to a rational state.
I drank the ice water that Sapphire poured for me, and told her the main content of today's negotiation with Mr. K.
“White Bear Pack?” Sapphire’s face reflected my reaction when I first heard that pack’s name from Mr. K’s lips.
But who wouldn’t wear those expressions after hearing Mr. K's confidence in collaborating with that pack? The White Bear Pack’s reputation was known from every corner of the kingdom, not only because of their brutal and barbaric ways but also because it couldn’t be denied that their Alpha was one of the most powerful.
Hence, if Mr. K was brave enough and successfully managed to collaborate with them. It only meant one thing – that he’s stronger than him.
And that thought alone could make others yelp in fear.
I nodded but remained uneasy as I recalled discussing with Mr. K and what had happened. “I’m glad that he didn’t have any interest in the industry our royal family was in, or who knew what would unfold.”
Shaking my head, I continued, “But that didn’t change me feeling uneasy about the real capacity and power he had that we did not know of.”
We didn’t even know his real name or face… much more of the extent of his capabilities.
Though others would say that ignorance is bliss, in the world we live in and the risks we constantly face, being in the dark is the greatest hazard one could have.
Not to mention those eyes…
I still couldn’t erase from my mind those dark and deep eyes beneath his mask that were filled with aggression and possessiveness, which I wasn’t aware of where they were coming from.
And for some reason, goosebumps filled my skin as I was reminded of how those very own orbs had my clear reflection on them while he stared deeply into me, sucking my rationality and drawing me into them.
“But why? Isn’t it good for us to have a powerful ally that can support you every step of the way?” Sapphire suddenly asked, confusion visible in her eyes.
I immediately shook my head at that.
“It’s the White Bear Pack,” I uttered with caution. “The only way he could have collaborated with them was for him to duel with their Alpha and win it. And he did that without hesitation for mere profit. His ambition and the lengths he’s willing to go to to achieve his goal were far more scary than the White Bear Pack themselves. Not to mention… the Wakeland is at his wrapped around his finger...With the puppies’s lives, he can interfere with Wakeland’s affairs at any time.”
I could only pray deep within me that Mr. K was really an ally I could rely on and not someone with an ulterior motive. After all, Wakeland had many members who relied on the medicine only Mr. K’s Deadtail organization could provide.
This land couldn’t survive without that medication. As much as I hated to accept it, this land needed him.
Mr. K fought hard and planned many things for his ambitions. Ruby Orbs? Those weren’t something so valuable, even with the White Bear Pack buying them from him. They wouldn’t bring him many benefits worthy of his efforts, so there was definitely a bigger conspiracy behind it, which I needed to know.
Until then, being cautious of our steps with him would be the smart choice.
“Do you mean to say that the Wakeland is now too dependent on Mr. K right now?” Sapphire voiced out what’s in my mind.
I nodded and let out a sigh. “Yes, and that’s not a good thing. Krendell had influence in the Wakeland, and Mr. K had them at the palm of his hands.”
“Quick,” I uttered. “Discreetly set up a laboratory this instant and heighten the progress of the investigation about the Rogues that attacked the Wakeland. I want to know everything and every clue we could get.”
“I’ll do that.” After replying, she raised her hand and looked at her wrist watch before she looked back up at me. “Princess, do you want to go back to the hall now?”
I leaned back in my chair, feeling exhausted both physically and mentally. Shaking my head, I replied in a low voice, “No, I need some rest.”
But as she closed the door behind her after leaving, the mask of calmness I had put on my face instantly vanished, replaced by fear and guilt.
How would I face Albert now?
