Chapter 226

Della’s POV

The room was quite large, probably the second largest on the ship after mine, which wasn’t surprising considering that she’s my beta. The side window wasn’t covered with a curtain, giving the room a natural light.

Everything was well organized. Even her bed had perfectly tight triangular edges on each corner. The room wasn’t much decorated, but every necessary piece of furniture was in there.

It’s like it’s a model home. Well… it’s as rigid as her personality. But what really shocked me wasn’t all that.

It’s the fact that as soon as I walked into her room, her study table was the most attention-seeking, with piles of A4-printed materials on it that were as high as a tower.

For a three-day window… I didn’t imagine she could have done that much work.

Wasting no time, I approached her table and took the document on top. There were outline remarks on the paper with a red pen like the other documents. There were even sticky notes on some pages for additional details.

Impressed, I raised my eyebrow sat on her chair, and started reading what she got.

After a while, Sapphire followed me and she grabbed a folder from her desk, extending it toward me. “Princess, this is the chat records I obtained from hacking into the social account of Mason.”

Mason was the son of Krendell, the former Wakeland manager.

I took a glimpse at her. Indeed, her hacking skills were a great advantage.

“Excellent,” I praised before I grabbed the folder and read it.

The records showed that a few years ago, Mason forced a dockworker in Wakeland to be his mistress.

Reading her authoritarian words and perverted attrition made me so sick and furious that I wanted to rush over him and snap his neck. It’s obvious how the girl named Aria wasn’t willing to have any kind of relationship with him, so Mason resorted to a far worse method.

He kidnapped Aria and locked her up in an old basement, endlessly abusing and torturing her. My hands fisted in radiating fury, feeling the immense pain the innocent girl must have gone through because of a power-greed monster like him.

What made it all worse was that Krendell was aware of his son’s actions and didn’t stop him. In fact, he’s even on it with him. They’re both accomplice.

My heartbeat raised, and I clenched my jaw tighter as I read further into the report.

Angrily, I slammed the folder down on the desk. “Those bastards!”

Sapphire cleared her throat. “I suspect that the rise of rogues in Wakeland is probably related to how brutal the former manager of Wakeland was ruling the land.”

Then, she pushed another pile of documents in my hand.

I took a deep breath and composed myself before opening it.

Once. Twice. Thrice… I didn’t know how long I froze in my seat, blinking several times as I processed what was before me.

My hands trembled with unspeakable anger as my eyes looked at the pictures on the file one after another.

Those pictures were the photos of Aria being raped. There were bruises and cuts all over her while he restrained her hands above her head, kissing her and groping his hands all over her body while tears were streaming down her face.

Her lips were wide open, seemingly shouting for mercy.

Mason heartlessly had someone take photos while he did those gruesome actions to boast about his crimes to his friends, showing the face of a helpless woman on the verge of dying.

No… With his gruesome actions, I think that girl was wishing that he should’ve just killed her the moment he set his hand on her.

There were more pictures of Aria’s naked body with lacerations and…

Fuck! That bastard!

I couldn’t bear it anymore, so I closed the folder, angrily threw it on the table, and pushed it away from me.

Gritting my teeth together, I ordered, “Follow up on this matter.”

When I didn’t hear anything from her, I looked up and stared at her unresponsive facial appearance.

“What? Say it!” I ordered, rage radiating in my every tone and action.

She bowed her head and said with difficulty, “I’m sorry, Princess. The girl died a few years ago.”

I stumbled back on my chair, feeling powerless.

“Shortly after the girl’s death, the rogue riots broke out in Wakeland,” she continued.

Goosebumps circulated in my entire body. I felt like crying, but it was all pushed down from the immense rage I was feeling.

Clasping my hands together as hard as I could to keep myself composed and stop myself from making rushed decisions, I ordered, “This matter needs to be investigated carefully.”

“And another thing,” she stared, taking my attention.

There’s more? How worse could those bastards be?

I nodded, gesturing for her to continue.

“After deep investigation, I found that although Krendell was welcoming your arrival on the surface, he was secretly spreading words about you, showing how dissatisfied he was about you.”

I scoffed. “With all the crimes and nasty things his son and he had done, even a rogue would be a saint!”

Clearing her throat, she continued, “Their family had been in Wakeland for so long that they were overwhelmed by the power, making them self-righteous. They think they are the owner of that land when, in fact, it belonged to no one else but the Lycan Royal family.”

I slammed my fist on the table, calming myself.

There’s no way that Albert didn’t know any of this. He must have kept all of this fucking details because he knew I’d be worried.

But unknown to him, I already had a clue that these things were happening, just that I hadn’t confirmed it until now.

However, above everything I thought of, what I didn’t expect was for Mason to be so bold to do such a thing and for Krendell to shamelessly cover it all up.

It wouldn’t be surprising that the Kingdom’s security didn’t know about it, though, considering they don’t look into one’s personal chat records for privacy reasons unless they’re under investigation, which they were not.

If Sapphire hadn’t taken the risk to hack into these things, I would have been so clueless about how much innocent low-level dockworkers were benign and ruthlessly treated by them.

Standing up, I patted her shoulder in recognition and reminded her, “You did an excellent job, but you should be aware that hacking into Mason’ phone to get all this chat history is illegal.”

With a straight face and a serious tone, she asked, “So how will it be? Will you punish me, Princess?”

She didn’t even butt an eye. She’s not afraid, nor did she look like she thought she did anything wrong.

Sapphire was, without a doubt, a very strong and rational woman, and she also knew that laws were laws and it shouldn’t be bent for any cause. Hence, she had to pay for her choices, even though it was for the greater food.

She probably already knew she’d be punished for it, but she still did it. "It turns out that I did not choose a wrong Beta."

I smiled and shook my head. “No, but this needs to be done in secret. You have to help me investigate more about that girl’s case.”

Ponting at her, I remind her, “But do it carefully, and don’t let anyone find out about it.

“I shall do as you order, Princess,” she respectfully replied.

Nodding in satisfaction, I took a deep breath and left her room before going to mine. As soon as I closed the door, I slammed myself on the bed, letting myself drown in thoughts.

Now, I could only hope that the inauguration party would go smoothly.
