Chapter 223

Della’s POV

I blinked a couple of times in utter disbelief. I mean… Was that how bad he looked at Fae for him to even think for a second she was a selfish and stupid woman?

What’s worse, he didn’t even think twice and just blurted it out as if he was so sure. If he looked at her so low like that, why even bother entangling himself with her in the first place?

Overwhelming feelings were radiating all over me. Pain because I could see the betrayal in him, and anger because he thought like that… And not only to Fae but to me as well.

It’s like he forgot who between us would go far and behind just to make his point proven, even to the point of manipulating things behind, like sending Stella in the Dark Moon Pack.

Shifting my seat and putting a small distance between us, I looked at his in exasperation. “If Fae is as selfish and stupid as you said, she would have already told everyone else about Quinne, but no! She’s hiding it for your sake!”

I couldn’t help but defend Fae, feeling how unfair his words to her were.

If the news were leaked, everything would easily go in Fae’s favor. The Protector would know about Quinne, and they’d kill her without batting an eye. It’s like killing two birds in one stone. Fae would get rid of her rival in love, and she’d get a chance with Jackson, but she didn’t do that.

Instead… My heart aches at the mere thought of what we talked about earlier.

Fae could do a whole different thing, but she chose to humble herself and experience Quinne’s life instead, making herself a duplicate of Quinne! Just so Jackson could possibly see her love for him.

Still blinded, Jackson angrily uttered, “Then why did Fae bother Quinne, huh? How will you explain that? And why did she tell you about her?”

Frustrated, I stood up, slamming my hands on my legs in the process. Glaring at him, I voiced out, “She did it for you!”

Jackson froze.

“She went to see Quinne because she loves you that much! All she wanted was a fair chance to compete with Quinne, just like how you wanted to take the place of Quinne’s boyfriend!” My breathing became heavy as anger radiated all over me.

Jackson stared at me for a while before his face eased a little bit, especially after hearing about Quinne’s boyfriend.

He looked down at his hands, looking helpless.

I sighed. “You asked why Fae told me? It’s because she’s devastated, and there’s no one she trusts to tell anything but me!”

“Right…” He let out a sigh. “You’re right. I’m such a jerk and worthless man.”

He didn’t even look at me. He just stared at the floor while fidgeting with his hands. As handsome as he was, he looked so lost and gloomy that it radiated to me, making me sit beside him.

I was angry, yes, but what could I do? He’s still my brother. Even if Fae was my best friend, Jackson’s my brother, and seeing him blaming himself hit me hard, making me turn back into a softy.

Patting his shoulder, I just stay silent beside him, letting him know I’m there no matter what.

But when I was ready to speak, he beat me to it.

“If only I can find The Protector as soon as possible and extinct them, then Quinne won’t be in danger anymore,” he said, pulling his hair in frustration and self-blame.

Quinne… After everything I’ve said, it all still falls to Quinne…

It’s like Fae never crossed his mind. No… it's not there to begin with.

“Don’t you ever feel sorry for what you’ve said to Fae earlier?” I asked, totally speechless by his reactions.

Finally, he looked at me. “I don’t understand.” He shook his head. “Why should I apologize? Even if Fae is here, she’ll understand me – what I sad. She’s always been like that.”

My hands dropped, and I looked at him in utter shock. Suddenly, scenes from my past flashed before me.

My insides trembled as I recalled how much I suffered as Kylian’s Luna, of how much I attended to Kylian’s every need only for him to put me aside to take care of Flora when she came into his life.

“Della, I know you can understand me.” That’s the same words Kylian said as he slowly emptied me.

It's happening all over again, and this time, I was the bystander while my friend was the one on stage. This time, it’s Fae who’d get hurt. That same lively and cheerful woman who brought rainbows into my life would fall into the same love-and-hate fate that I experienced.

And worse of all… the cause would be my own brother.

Fae was the strongest woman I know. She liked to joke around, but she was never to be bullied. She always fought and knew how to protect herself by every means possible. I saw firsthand how she endured Jackson’s rejections over and over again.

I saw how she tirelessly pursued him because of her love. Wasn’t that the kind of love worth cherishing? A love Jackson should see?

Even if there’s no more chance between him and Fae, he shouldn’t take Fae’s love for granted.

My hands trembled as the fury in me slowly built up with every memory that flashed before me. Before I knew it, I already had my hand in a fist and sent a straight punch to Jackson.

“What the…” He looked at me in shock, holding his cheek.

It wasn’t that strong to injure him, but it was strong enough for him to remember.

“I’m your brother, have you forgotten that?” he asked through gritted teeth, but I only glared at him.

“That’s for Fae, you heartless jerk!” I breathed heavily and reminded him, “Fae tolerated you more than anyone because she loves you that much. At least be grateful about it!”

He furrowed his brows. “What? I didn’t ask f–”

I raised my hand and interrupted him. “I’m going to Wakeland soon. You can do your work again because I wont’ be continuing to take on your castle work and give you any chance to find Quinne anymore.”

He froze, but I continued, “If you don’t agree with my terms, I’ll tell Dad.”

“You won’t–”

I didn’t wait for his reply and just pushed him to the side, leaving his office. I got enough of him!

As I closed the door to my room as I got back, I felt so drained. I slowly walked toward my window and stared at the beautiful sky. Looking at the moon, I solemnly prayed, “Moon goddess, please bless everyone I love. Please keep Jackson, Fae, Quinne, and everyone else safe.”

Opening my eyes, I whispered, “I hope everything will go well in Wakeland.”
