Chapter 218
1380words
Time flies by so fast.
Almost in the blink of an eye it’s the end of the month, which is when I should officially take up my post at Wakeland.
As a princess, I am not only responsible for Wakeland affairs. After my father announced my identity in public last year, Jackson began to hand over some of the castle's administrative tasks to me, while he himself would often disappear from the Castle. Occasionally he wouldn't show himself for two or three days. However, he had taken on a lot of work before, and it was time to relax.
Since some of the castle affairs have not been completed and I still need to wait for some reports, I asked Albert to take Aaden to Wakeland first.
According to the plan, I will rush to Wakeland on the day of the ball to meet the former consul there.
And the mysterious...Mr. K.
After I processing the last document, Diana came over with cupcakes and coffee with her typical frowned eyebrow.
"Princess Della, I must remind you that you are not a machine. You have been working all day. Please take a rest."
I looked at her and shrugged. Diana is truly the best gift Jackson gave me. If she hadn't reminded me, I almost forgot that I had been working for so long.
I winked mischievously at her. "I really wish I was a machine."
She smiled, put the coffee and cupcakes on the table, and continued to do her housework.
The aroma of coffee mixed with cream floated into my nostrils, and I instantly felt a lot more relaxed.
But just as I was about to concentrate on rest, the door suddenly opened.
Shocked, I stood up, ready in defense. To my surprise, a body jumped on me. A pair of arms engulfed me tightly.
“You’re here! Finally!”
Fae was wearing a denim short skirt suit. Her originally short hair had grown longer, and she looked a little quieter than before, but this was just the surface.
She still maintains her enthusiastic and lively personality.
“Fae? How come your here? No, how do you get in?” I asked in surprise and confusion since I’m sure I locked the door, but I still did reciprocate her embrace.
Pulling away, she gave me a goofy smile and showed a key. “Emergency spare key.”
She jiggled it in the air like a victorious woman.
I smiled and shook my head, asking Diana to get another cup of coffee for her.
Diana was surprised and welcomed Fae's intrusion, and even prepared a lot of snacks such as cookies for us. She was always like that. Anyone and anything that was good for me, Diana was always welcome.
Fae sat opposite me, munching on a cookie. “I’m so glad Aaden and Albert let first.”
I shut her a glare, but she immediately added, “I haven’t had an a lone time for you for a long time!”
“Oh come on, just say that you missed gossiping around without an intervention,” I teased.
“That too!” With that we both laugh.
A genuine and full of life laugh. For a moment, I seemed to have returned to the carefree life I had with Fae before I met Kylian.
I had a lot of classes and training at that time. But every time I was tired, Fae could always heal me with hearty laughter. Indeed, she’s the best friend anyone would wish for.
We were still in the middle of laughing when I suddenly stopped and became serious, staring at her.
“What?” she asked, confused.
Titling my head, I worriedly asked her, “Is Jackson still finding excuses to avoid you recently?”
Back then, Fae always shown a great interest in Jackson. I even shipped them to be together. And even until now, I know for a fact that she still like him.
They were not fated mates, but… I knew and I saw that they both had a good relationship. They compliment each other’s personality.
Although Jackson always refused to admit his relationship with Fae, they had actually maintain a sex relationship for a long time.
Fae really likes Jackson so much. So even though Jackson didn't allow Fae to expose their relationship in front of anyone, she was still willing to be around Jackson.
But as Jackson's sister, one of the people who knows Jackson best, I think Jackson treats her just like a friend and bed partner.
But despite this, Jackson at least will not deliberately keep a distance from Fae.
Until three years ago, for some reason we didn’t know, Jackson suddenly turned cold to Fae.
It’s weird, to be honest.
I stared at Fae, observing her minimal reactions. The glint in her eyes suddenly vanished, and the arc in her lips turned into a frown. She’s feeling gloomy. The lively woman I’ve grew up with who’s very strong and optimistic was now looking so down.
In the entire world, it could be count in fingers what could make her sad for so long. Unfortunately, one of those few was my brother.
But being the usual strong woman that she was, that expression didn’t even last quarter a minute before she masked her real feelings.
She smiled again, and said, “I’m fine.”
It hurt my feeling to see how being contradict she was to herself right now. She’s saying she’s fine but her eyes was now red from trying hard to withhold her tears from streaming down her face.
She shrugged. “You know, it’s nothing. It’s his usual thing to avoid me. I was already used to it. So, I’m fine, and still this happy girl you know I am.”
“And I’ll always be,” she added, giving me a huge and reassuring smile.
“She’s probably lying. She touches her nose every time she lies,” Trisha reminded. That’s what I thought so too.
Since she said she’s fine, she already touched her nose thrice. It’s her unconscious habit.
She underestimate me. I’m her best friend and I kenw her best. She couldn’t hide her real feelings from me by forcing herself to look fine.
Seriously staring at her, I exposed her, “Fae, I’m your best friend. Who do you think you’re lying to?”
Shock, her mouth went agape as she froze. Her eyes looked like an oblivion. She looked so lost.
Shifting closer to her, I grabbed her shoulders and stared at her tenderly. “We are best friends, Fae. I want to be here with you, comforting and helping you whenever you are sad. You took care of me before, let me do the same favor for you now.”
With that, I pulled her in my arms and embrace her. Letting her feel my warm, ensuring she feel that I love her and I’d always be there for her.
“It’s so hard…” she finally broke down her wall and wrapped her arms around me, crying on my shoulders.
I continued patting her back softly, listening to her words.
Sobbing, she continued, “I thought… I thought if I stay long enough and work hard to be with him, he’ll eventually fall in love with me.”
Bitterly, she let out a force laugh. “Like a counting peacock, I frantically tried my best to charm him, but guess what? It’s all in vain”
Her hold in me tightened as she reminisce about something. “And a few days ago… I… D-della… I discovered that he finally found his f-fated mate…”
As soon as she let out that revelation, she started crying harder and holding me tighter as if to get strength from me.
I held her closer to me, but inside, I was so shock that my mind was starting to get blank. So many questions suddenly running in my head.
Fated mate? Jackson found his fated mate?
JThat’s impossible. Jackson has promised to me that once we find our fated mate, we must tell our family as soon as possible. Obviously Jackson didn't tell me or Dad...
So why on earth is he hiding it?
Sobbing harder, she added, “It’s… It’s just so hard to accept… I… It’s ridiculous!”
Pulling away from me, she spoke in riddles, “She… she can’t be his mate. I mean… it’s impossible. It’s one in a million chance. It’s just all so ridiculous!”
