Chapter 83

980words
Della’s POV

How long was Albert awake and standing there? Did he hear everything about the fated mate thing?

I looked at him, frozen on my feet, trying to comprehend what just had happened. Good thing that Fae reacted faster than I was or we would have fallen in a long awkward silence.

Albert looked so shocked, but aside from that, what really took my attention was his eyes. It was filled with so much sadness and various emotions that flashed one after another in his eyes.

We were looking at each other for a long time.

“Are you alright?” I asked, but he didn't speak.

His reaction made me a little flustered. Albert always smiled gently and had never looked so serious. What's up with him?

“Albert, did you hear something?”

Fae tried to get his attention out from being in daze.

Albert blinked a couple of times before getting out of his daze. He took a deep breath, shifted his stance, and heaved a sigh.

Instead of answering any of our questions, he went on to say directly, “Della, thank you for your help. And… I hope that you meet your fate mate as soon as possible and share a good life.”

He was smiling widely, but it wasn’t reaching his eyes. In fact, his lips and eyes had contradicting expressions. And his teeth weren't even showing… It seemed somehow… forced.

I did’t understand why but Albert looked depressed and worried. He was probably thinking of many things right now.

“Hmmm...Thanks for your blessing.”I hesitantly replied.

Albert nodded his head, unidentified sorrow still in his eyes.

Suddenly, realization hit me. My eyes widened, and I immediately added, “Oh, and please, don’t tell anyone about it. Especially Kylian!”

I almost shouted as I emphasized the importance of it being kept as a secret.

But I don't know why, my words seemed to anger Albert. He suddenly frowned, grabbed my wrist, and asked sharply, “Are you still with Kylian? Do you still love him?

He asked one after another as he took a step closer to me.

I was confused.

He seemed so into the topic and his tone being laced with annoyance, and probably suppressed anger, didn’t go past me.

There was a flame in his eyes, his hands were in fist, and his chest was moving fast, indicating his increasing emotions.

I never saw him so out of control, at least not directly at me. He was always in control and calm when facing me.

His reaction made me a bit nervous with worry.

“No...of course not. I just didn’t want him to know about it because I don’t want to complicate my life with Kylian even more. I want the divorce to happen and end things once and for all. Only then can I live quietly.”

I answered but scolded myself inwardly.

‘Who are you fooling?’

I couldn’t help but lie… But what could I do, it was the right thing to say. No, it was the right thing to do.

What I had left for Kylian was something that should be kept hidden and never be opened again. Soon, it would completely vanish. After all, it was all already predestined as Lucas predicted.

Lucas laughed sarcastically at my answer, leaving me more confused.

“Do you see me as a fool, Della? Do you really think I’ll believe such lame excuse?” he asked.

I was dumbfounded. He never answers me like that. He never spoke, looked, and treated me this way… He was always so gentlemanly and caring. He never got mad at me. Well… until right now, I think.

“I… What… I mean…” I closed my eyes. Being confronted by him like this, I didn’t know how to respond.

Although as a friend I shouldn't lie, why was he so angry?

I took a step back, took a deep breath, and tried my best to calm him down.

“What’s wrong, Albert? Why are you angry about it? I’m not treating you as a fool…”

“You’re really asking me that?” Albert asked, leaving me even more clueless.

“I…”

I didn’t know what to say. My mind was all in a jumble as I tried to process what was happening, and why he was acting this way.

Suddenly, Fae walked in the middle of us and looked at Albert, blocking his sight of me. She tapped his shoulder, making him shift his eyes toward her.

“Why don’t you go back first and calm down? Okay?” she said, and I saw Albert nod his head with frustration.

He turned to leave, and when he walked to the door, he suddenly said, "I'm sorry for my rudeness just now, Della. Besides, I will leave here and go to Wakeland tomorrow."

After saying that, he left. I frown and turned to Fae, “Fae, what does he mean by leave? Why would he leave suddenly?”

I asked while I met Fae’s eyes, angry eyes.

“What’s wrong? Why do you look at me accusingly?” I asked Fae.

“You really ask?” Fae looked so frustrated with her hand sliding to her hair, messing it a bit. She looked at me as if I was a clueless fool, which probably I could be sometimes.

“Really, Della? Why can’t you feel and see that Albert loves you? Your attitude and words are too cruel for him!” She could no longer hold it in and asked me directly.

Oh my moon goddess. Again?

“Fae. I told tou. You’re overthinking it. Albert just thought me as his friend. He is just worried,” I answered, couldn’t help rolling my eyes.

“"Please... don't make my feelings more complicated by bringing Albert into the mix. Kylian is already giving me a headache. And besides… It doesn’t matter anymore. I’ll have my fated mate soon…” I simply replied despite Kylian’s face and my memories shared with him kept flashing in my mind.
