Chapter 64

I was about to enter my car when I heard one of my men running after me. With great urgency, he caught up to me.
“Sir, Prince Jackson is on the landline,” he said, which took my attention.
Looking back at him with menacing eyes, I asked, “Did you call him?”
“I…”
“Did you?” I shouted! I knew that he was worried about what might happen if I barged in the Dark Moon Pack without invitation, but calling Prince Jackson was over the line.
“Forgive me. I… We can’t risk waging war…”
“Get out of my way.” I pushed him aside and went back into the packhouse to grab the phone.
“Prince Jackson,” I greeted.
“I heard that you are going to see Della in the Dark Moon Pack. You know that she chose to go with them. You can’t just…”
“She cried! She cried to me over the phone! I can’t just look past that. Prince Jackson… I have to go there. No matter what. And if you call to stop me as well, I am willing to accept any punishment because I will still go there,” I interrupted him with determination.
No matter how peaceful the relationships between various packs had been, there were still rules that must be followed. Werewolves are naturally territorial. We couldn’t just trespass without any communication. However… it’s Della who was on the line.
I couldn’t just stand by.
After a few seconds of silence from Prince Jackson’s side, I heard him sigh.
“Okay, I will issue a message to them. You are going there as per my command. I know you can feel angry and all, but maintain your composure as much as you can,” he reminded.
Relieved that he was helping me rather than stopping me, I sighed. “Thank you, Prince Jackson.”
After ending the call, I rushed out.
“Sir… I…”
Glaring, I told him off. “Do such things again without my knowledge. You’ll surely face my wrath.”
After that, I threw my bag inside the backseat and quickly drove off.
An hour later, I arrived at the Dark Moon Pack’s border, where their warriors were lined up in protection. They looked at each other, obviously oblivious to my coming.
Though Prince Jackson let out a message, it won’t be that easily passed on, especially since I came in urgent.
Reaching the border, one of the warriors knocked on my window, so I pulled it down.
“I am Albert Wolfie from River Ash Pack. I am here under Prince Jackson’s order to visit Della Campbell.” I diplomatically informed them.
“I’ll need you to step out of your vehicle, Mr. Wolfie. Please bring out only those things you need to bring inside.” The warrior said as he took a few steps back to give way to me.
‘Are they actually going to search me?’ I clenched my jaw in anger. How dare he! I was still the heir of River Ash Pack, and I just said that I came upon Prince Jackson’s order!
“This way,” Another warrior said, signaling to the gate of the border where a long table was situated just before the entrance.
They made me place my bags and other valuables there.
“Didn’t you hear me? I came here to…”
“We heard. But protocols are protocols, Mr. Wolfie. We need to do this. After all, you came in a hurry, and we didn’t get any proper memos,” the man who escorted me out of my car said in a stern voice.
“Search that,” he ordered to his men, and they started rummaging through my things.
I wanted to get angry, but I knew best. I had to stay calm no matter how humiliating what they were doing. I need to get inside at all costs.
Protocols! I secretly laugh with sarcasticness. Protocol, my ass. Obviously, they weren’t welcoming my visit.
“Mr. Wolfie…” The other one said, insinuating me to raise my arms for a body search.
“You…” Closing my eyes, I calmed myself and did what he said anyway.
“Are you done yet?” I asked with frustration after stepping back as soon as he finished searching my body.
“Yes, Mr. Wolfie. Welcome to Dark Moon Pack,” they said as they bowed their heads in “respect” before handing my bags to me.
On cue, the entrance gate opened while they gave way for me to enter the pack on foot.
Wasting no time, I went where Della was staying after one of the warriors had informed me.
Outside the guest house she was in, I saw a woman leaning on the patio. She was wearing a mint green tank top paired with denim shorts. Her arms were over her chest, and she had this unpleasant demeanor around her.
“Hi, I am looking for Della Cambell. I heard she’s staying here.” I politely approached her, stepping into the first step of the porch stairs.
Hearing my voice, the woman looked up.
“What do you…” I think she was about to sneer based on her prior reaction, but it instantly changed when she saw my face.
“A-ah… Hi, how can I help you?” she asked kindly, standing upright.
I looked at her from head to toe. She was fluttering her eyelashes, and she was twirling the end of her hair with her finger. She’s flirting.
“I want to see Della.” I decided not to pay attention to her. Hopefully, she’ll see that as a sign.
She took a step closer toward me. “Hi, I am Nancy.”
“Hi, Nancy. Nice to meet you. Do you know Della?” For the nth time, I repeated my reason for coming here, which she consistently acted oblivious to.
I was waiting for her answer, but she just kept staring at me with that foolish, irritating smile plastered on her face. By her demeanor, she didn’t seem very powerful, and my wolf didn’t feel any threat against her. She’s probably a lower-rank wolf or an omega.
“Nancy… Nancy…. Nancy!” I kept repeatedly calling her name to take her out of her daze. Finally, I couldn’t hold myself longer and shouted her name.
“Ah, y-yes. I do. I am the one Alpha Kylian assigned to take care of her,” she replied.
‘Well, good. At least that dog did something good for once and gave Della a servant,’ I thought.
Since Nancy didn’t seem to have any intention to willingly give way to me, I had to politely ask, “Please, can you not block the door and let me in?”
I took a side step and reached for the doorknob behind her when she leaned closer to the door to stop me. I looked at her, and that’s when she started speaking to show her true colors.
“Are you her boyfriend? A friend? Do you know that she likes to play around with men? It’s her hobby to seduce and steal men from their fated mate. She acts arrogant as if she’s the real Luna and…”
Before she could continue slandering Della, my sight had already turned red.
In a matter of seconds, I already had her pinned on the wall with my hand choking her neck. My eyes were blazing with anger as I looked straight into her eyes and let out a roar that combined with my own voice and my wolves. It sure made her shiver.
I could feel her legs go weak as all her weight came to my hand. I smirked. She’s afraid, good!
“I am warning you, bitch! Say one more word about Della, and I’ll snap your neck into pieces!” After saying that, I threw her onto the ground with immense force before entering the house and locking it behind me.
As soon as I looked inside, what I witnessed broke my heart to pieces.
I was welcomed by the stinky smell of alcohol mixed with sourness and the smell of spoiled foods that lingered on the corners of the room. The entire place was a mess.
At the center of the bed was Della. She was curled up in a ball. I observed every inch of her.
Frozen on my feet, I saw how the woman who was always conscious about her hygiene and cleanliness turned into a completely different person.
There were empty bottles of wine and goblets scattered around. There was broken furniture, and the bedsheets were wrinkled and out of order. But above all, it was Della who was in a complete mess.
She was wearing a brown fitted crop top shirt and khaki skirt that was now stained with red wine and a trace of her vomit.
I stepped forward and kneeled down beside her bed, meeting her soulless eyes. She’s staring into oblivion. I don’t even think that she could see me. My heart ached as I saw dried tears on her cheeks just beneath the fresh ones that were dripping from the corner of her eyes.
What should I do? What could I do to help her now?
My heart felt so heavy seeing her like that. She looked like a living corpse.
“Della…” I gently called out her name, but she didn’t respond to me.
Not being able to handle seeing her like that anymore, I stood up and looked away. Taking a deep breath, I tried my best not to cry for her nor ran straight to Kylian to kill the living life out of him.
My hands formed into a fist, and I let my nails embed into my palm. I could feel blood dripping out from my palm and its faint smell, but that physical pain was the only thing that's keeping me from breaking down and going into a rampage right now.
I need to calm down. For her, I need to.
“What the hell? What have you done? Look at all this mess and disgusting smell! How disgusting can you be?” Suddenly, Nancy walked in.
She was very irritated by what she saw and went straight to the utility room at the corner of the room to grab a mop.
She turned around to start moping and felt nauseous with what she was smelling. “Ah! I hate this. How dare you make this huge mess!”
Nancy completely stopped in her tracks with a green face. She was completely disgusted that she couldn’t even move forward to continue cleaning or help Della clean up.
Irritated, I quickly went back to approach Della. Without any hesitation, I sat on the side of her bed and helped her to sit.
“You’ll ruin your white shirt,” Nancy reminded me of the obvious. Knowing that she would not do anything good, I decided to just turn a deaf ear to her before I ended up killing her.
I supported Della’s back and pulled her toward me, making her lean her back on my chest.
Grabbing a towel from her bedside drawer, I wiped her face dry and her stained hands.
“Albert…” she whispered, making me stop.
I stared at her, letting her take her time to process her surroundings.
“Did I already get drunk enough?” she said in confusion. Then, a bitter smile formed on her lips as she added, “Was I so drunk that I am now hallucinating? I am seeing you, Albert… Or am I already dead?”
Then tears ran down her eyes again. “If I’m dead, why do I still feel sad? Albert… Please tell me. Why does it still hurt?” she asked with desperation while thumbing on her chest.
Immediately, I hold onto her hand, stopping her from hurting herself even more.
My heart was breaking into a million pieces seeing her like this.
‘Why can’t you just fall in love with me instead, Della? I’ll take care of you. I’ll love you more than anyone else in the world…’ I wanted to say that, but I could only hide my feelings. I am nothing but a secret admirer of her. A man who could only love her from afar.
"Are you real?" she asked again in despair.
A Lycan princess, heir of werewolf kingdom… Della Campbell. My heart and eyes couldn't handle how poorly she was being treated that even a lowly omega dared to insult her.
'I was wrong! I'm sorry, Della. I shouldn't have let you come with him! I thought he'd take care of you… I'm so sorry!"
I looked down at her and pushed her loose strand of hair into the back of her ear. Looking straight into her eyes while capping her cheek, I solemnly told her, "I'm here. It's me. It's the real me, Della."
"Albert?"
"Yes… Yes, it's me."
She momentarily processes everything, staring at me. Suddenly, her eyes widened in shock.
Hastily, she pushed me away from her, and she sat upright. "You're here!"
"I am," I replied with a nod. I tried to touch her, but she avoided me.
"I… I am a mess. I stink, and my clothes are dirty… Oh gosh! You shouldn't see me like this. I will…"
Finally fully awake, she started crying while bubbling in panic while she looked at her clothes filled with stains of alcohol and vomit.
She tried to hide herself from me, completely embarrassed by her current state.
In the state of her panic, I went closer to her and engulfed her in a tight and warm embrace.
"No! I stink!"
She struggled in my arms, trying hard to get away. But her every push only made me hold her closer to me.
"Please… Don't push me away, Della," I begged her.
"You don't need to push me away nor be embarrassed in front of me. In my eyes, no matter what happens, you'll always be beautiful and precious," I whispered in her ears, which made her stop struggling as she froze in my arms.
She looked up and stared at me, completely stunned.
Seconds passed, and tears started to drip from her eyes again. "Why can't Kylian treat me like that? Why can't he treat me like I'm the most precious person to him? Why?"
More tears streamed down her face, and every tear felt like daggers being struck to my heart.
'So you know that he isn't treating you right. So why do you still like him?' I wanted to ask her that, but I knew that staying quiet was for the better.
If only she'd like me instead. Then she would be treated like a queen like she deserved.
'I like you.' I wanted so badly to tell her those three words. I wanted her to know my feelings, but I couldn't.
I told myself numerous times that I must not fall for her. I shouldn't…
Raising my hand, I wiped her tears dry.
Suddenly, a deafening roar echoed in the room together as the door slammed open.
