Chapter 31

As the trumpet call echoed in the track, the starting gate instantaneously leveled up. Horses flared up to their highest speed with the equestrian guiding them while the entire audience in the grandstand and clubhouse roared with applause, screams, and cheers for their bets.
I leaned back on the metal bar in front of the first row of seats. While others looked at the tote board, I was lost in my thoughts as I remembered how Kylian had looked at me before he left.
There was a hint of determination in it… conviction that said he'd move heaven and earth to get what he wanted.
And whenever his eyes were glinting like that and directed right into me, like a fool, my heart would beat so fast that my brain would momentarily stop functioning at that moment.
"Alpha, you, I have an important matter you need to look into." Troy, our head of security, approached Jackson.
Jackson momentarily looked at me with worry.
Knowing I was probably stopping him from proactively working, I immediately shook my head and urged, "Go on, I'll be just here."
At first, he hesitated but then later on sighed and slightly patted me on my shoulder. With one last whisper in my ear, he said, "Remember, don't let that man fool you again. Don't see him."
With that, he left.
But, despite Jackson's reminder not to meet with Kylian, my hands moved on their own, and before I knew it, I was already messaging Kylian that I agreed to meet him.
Besides, I'm curious what he wants to say. If I don't meet up with him, I won't have a good night's sleep, as I've just kept thinking about it.
After fidgeting for a while, I finally made a decision and left.
"What are you doing? Why are you seeing that bastard again? I thought you already made up your mind?" Trisha started asking while I walked out of the horse race and out of the venue.
"I just—"
She gasped, intervening from my answer. "Don't tell me you already regret it?"
Heaving a sigh, I continued my initial reply to her with a firmer tone, "I just wanted to know what he'll say. That's all!"
But as I ventured toward the dark alley beside the venue, I couldn't help but wonder if that was really the case.
Was that what I really feeling? Because the truth was… I really didn't know it for sure.
The lights of the bar outside, a few steps away from where I was, were shining before my eyes. Their bright-colored lights blurred into my mind as my feelings blurred into my heart.
"Who are you kidding, Della?" I asked myself again.
Of course, I knew! Deep in my heart, I just wanted to see him again. I wanted to see the man I deeply loved before… At least just once more. After all, this might be the last time we'd see each other again.
Finally, I arrived at the bar. Above the door was a huge LED sign with the bar's name: Moon Fangs.
The alley behind the bar was dark and narrow, and the only light source was the light coming from the bar's LED sign.
Kylian stood on a small shallow puddle, looking at the golden watch on his wrist from time to time, as if he was eagerly waiting for someone.
His hair was a little messy due to the wind, but it did not affect his charm at all. Even in the middle of the night, his deep eyes were still shining and unforgettable. I gulped.
Looking at his slightly pursed lips and those bright eyes, my heart beat uncontrollably.
You shouldn't! Della, haven't you learned your lesson yet?
I warned myself in my heart, took a deep breath, squinted my eyes and looked carefully at his tall figure not far away.
The tip of his ears was red, and he was passing back and forth a little bit. On the corner of his lips was a small smile, and his chest was rising and falling a bit heavily.
Was he…anxious about seeing me? Excited even?
My heart skipped a beat at that thought.
After composing myself, I finally went on and approached him. I crossed my arms across my chest in a protective manner and leaned on the wall opposite where he was. "What do you want to say?"
But being the alley was narrow, our gaps were only a few inches away, and I could swear my breath probably fanned his face.
Damn! We're too close for this! I felt like I was running a marathon with how fast my heart was beating. This is crazy!
"Della!" Kylian affectionately called my name, almost like a whisper, staring at me with those longing eyes.
In my peripheral vision, I could see him raising his hand, contemplating to reach out and hold my face, but he chose otherwise and it later on fell back on his side.
"I'm waiting," I told him, urging him to say what he wanted.
Hearing me, Kylian sighed, but immediately smiled a bit, and hope glinted in his eyes before he proudly told me, "I did it, Della. I already cast Flora away from the pack. You can come back with me now."
Did I hear it right? Did he banish Flora? His pregnant fated mate? Why? Did it mean he wanted me back? Did he really do that?
My heart skipped a bit and I had to secretly pinch my thighs to ensure I wasn't daydreaming.
As much as I hated Flora, hearing him do that really shocked me. After all, Flora was his fated mate, and above all, she was pregnant. Did he really manage to expel her?
Heaving a breath, I looked at his eyes to see that they were void of signs of lies. Finally, I whispered, "Why?"
His brows furrowed, and he took my words as comfort by how he took a step closer to me. Leaning down his face a bit closer to mine, his breath fanned into mine. "For you. I did it for you."
The hands that fell on his side earlier finally got its courage and went to hold my hand. Giving it a slight squeeze with his eyes still deeply in mine, he continued, "I want you back, Della. That divorce you're saying…"
"I'll never do that. I won't divorce you." He shook his head, making his stance firm.
At first, I was swayed by him. My heart was rising crazy, and I wanted to believe that he was really genuine.
But like a nightmare, everything he did was always rushing back into my mind. The times he pushed me away for Flora were embedded into my soul like a sharp knife that kept reminding me of how much he hurt me, and it woke me from my trance.
As if I was burned, I pulled my hands harshly away from him and pushed him a bit further.
My eyes blaze with rage as I looked at him with blame. "You're crazy! You think you did something?"
Huffing, I took a step back away from him and shouted, "Abandoning Flora – your fated mate – will only make you lose a bit of your power!"
"But I…" Kylian tried to take a step forward but I shook my head and went on, "Don't think, even for a second, that this incident will change my decision. I'll still definitely divorce you!"
A person's heart was like a piece of porcelain. It was heated and went through many processes for it to be as beautiful as that, and one would have thought it to be so strong after everything it had been through.
But like everything else, it could still get broken, and when it happened, it could never be molded back together.
Since I've been back to the kingdom, away from him, I've had a long time to think whether it was worth it for me to cast away my dignity and family for Kylian…
Suddenly I realized everything I had gone through just to be his Luna and stay by his side. All my patience and effort had been exhausted, and I almost lost myself in the process.
I should never make that same mistake again.
Staring at Kylian, the man I love so much, I remembered every detail of his face and every loving moment we had together.
Despite his presence being enough to make me swoon over, this time, I chose to give more importance to myself again.
"W-what?" he whispered thoughtlessly at first before something in his eyes clicked.
His jaws immediately clenched together, and he took a heavy step closer to me.
"Why?" he asked loudly, his voice booming in the narrow alley. He took a step closer to me, making me involuntarily move away until my back hit the wall. Was it because of Jackson? Huh?"
"Is it?" he shouted when I didn't reply as he pushed me against the wall, an arm on the side of my face, caging me between him and the wall.
His eyes were glistening with anger and jealousy as he stared into my eyes.
My eyes widened. His chest was already touching mine, and that familiar mixture of cedar and lavender scent invaded my nostrils, making me intoxicated in an instant.
That's the same scent I've loved so much before. So much so that I'd always smell his shirts all the chances I had. It was morbid, but I couldn't control the mating impulse in me.
"Della…" he whispered my name, making me stare back at him where I saw desire reflecting in his eyes.
This tall, handsome Alpha male used to be my mate. He took my V card four years ago, and I could still feel the weight of his body pressing on top of my chest. He wasn't a gentle lover. He was angry and violent. He almost crushed me on our wedding night, and I didn't know how to soothe him.
Like him, desire started building up in me. Shit! This isn't good!
"Fuck this!"
"What—"
He pulled me into the darker side of the alley and pushed me against the wall. Before I could utter another word of protest, his lips landed on mine. But it wasn't a gentle kiss.
It was a deep and thirsty kiss. His hands felt like it had its own mind as it started exploring my body. His one arm snaked around my waist, pulling me closer to his body while his kisses intoxicated me as he sent kisses all over me, running from my lips onto my neck and collarbone.
"Does he touch you like this before? Huh?" He provokingly asked, but giving me no chance to reply as all that came out of my lips were gasps and moans as his other hand that was on my legs hastily went under my skirt and slid through my underwear, touching my clit.
"A—are you crazy?" I trembled, looking around to make sure no one was seeing us.
"You tell me…" His warm breath fanned onto the base of my neck before he sucked on it while his fingers lingered on mine, moving in a figure of eight which was making me go crazy with desire for more.
"I… Ahhh!" I moaned again as he pushed his finger inside me. My legs instantly went weak and my arms moved on its own and wrapped its way around his nape, taking support from him.
When his finger started moving in and out of me, my legs went weaker until my right leg wrapped around his other calf, making my shirt move upward, which gave him more room.
"Did you do this with Jackson? Can he make you go this crazy and wet?" he whispered in my ears before he bit into it, teasing me further.
Before I knew it, he had already removed his belt and was raising my skirt more. Just as he was about to unbutton his pants, though, we heard footsteps coming in our direction and a shadow near us.
My eyes widened, and our movements stopped.
