Chapter 61: New Beginnings

"What happens now?" I asked no one in particular.

"Now," Liam said, taking my hand, "we go home."

Home. The word had never sounded so right.

In the weeks that followed, life settled into a new normal. Richard was taken into custody by a council of werewolf elders from multiple packs, who would determine his fate. The hunter organization he had led was in disarray, its members scattered or captured.

Elizabeth moved into a small cabin near Liam's, reconnecting with me and sharing stories of my father. She had thirty years of isolation to recover from, but her spirit remained unbroken. Sophia stayed as well, finding an unexpected place among the pack as she learned about werewolf culture without the prejudice she'd been raised with.

Jackson's condition continued to improve with my refined treatments. The moss compound, properly formulated, helped ease transformations not just for him but for younger pack members who struggled with the change. My research, once intended purely for academic purposes, had found its true application.

And Liam… Liam and I grew closer each day, learning each other's rhythms, sharing our lives in ways both small and profound. He remained the strong, sometimes stern Alpha his pack needed, but with me, he showed a gentleness few others ever saw.

One evening, as we walked through the forest under a nearly full moon, Liam took my hand and led me to a small clearing I'd never seen before. In the center stood an ancient oak tree, its massive branches creating a natural cathedral above us.

"This is the Heart Tree," Liam explained. "The center of pack territory. It's been here since before my great-grandfather's time."

"It's beautiful," I said, feeling the energy of the place—something old and powerful that resonated with something inside me.
