Chapter 34

Choosing to ignore his question I frown. He was a twenty-seven-year-old man who behaved like a child.
Great, now only immature dudes like me.
"You didn't answer my question, how old are you?"
I shrug, "My age is irrelevant."
"And mine wasn't?" Calum questioned.
"No. It was very relevant."
He pouts, "That's not fair."
"Life not's fair. Get over it." As the words came through my mouth I thought about it. I was always complaining about my life and the things that happened to me. Maybe I should take my own advice and get over it.
"Playing hard to get, I see." He stated.
"That's the thing. I'm not playing hard to get. I am hard to get."
Fact.
He shrugs, "Oh well. I guess I need to try harder." I remain silent, so he continued, "I'm really rich."
I sigh. Just when I start to like him he mentions money.
What's the problem with this world and money?
Why do all rich men have to assume that all girls want them because they have money?
Assume that we are all gold-diggers.
"Everyone here is rich." Except me, of course.
"I own restaurants all around America, you might have even been to one of them." I stared into his blue eyes with a frown. He had dirty blond hair and was middle built. His muscles seem well groomed. It was obvious he has some serious abs under that tuxedo. But that didn't matter because he was a dick who had lame pick up jokes.
"Look, I DON'T CARE. You could be the owner of Starbucks. I DON'T CARE. You are rich. I DON'T CARE. I don't want your money." I placed a lot of emphasis on the ' I DON'T CARE' because men like him just don't get it.
"Oh, so you a feisty one." He said smirking. "I bet you're wild in bed. I like that too. I really don't mind."
I knew all the smile that I was saving up was now gone.
What is stopping me from slapping him across his face?
1. This is for Charity
2. Not my home
3. Can't afraid bail money.
"Is everything okay, here."
I sigh thanking God for sending Alexander because I don't think I would have been able to control myself if he said the next word.
I turned and smiled at him. "Not so great. Calum here is ruining my night."
Alexander turns to Calum with a deep frown on his face. "Listen, Reid, she's off limits to you and your little crew and I don't want to see you or your friends near her," Alexander said in a serious tone. It was obvious he hated the guy, but why invite someone you dislike?
"Oh, so she's your date? You got yourself a feisty one. Perfect match for each other."
Before I could deny the claim, Alexander cut in, "Yes, she's with me, in fact, she lives here."
I knew he was trying to tell them I lived here but why did I sound like he was saying I'm his woman?
"Wow, the loser has found someone. Just Pray that she isn't a gold-digger like all the other women you've had."
"If I were you, Reid, I'd go back to my friends," Alexander said still sounding angry.
Calum smirked knowing that he won the conversation. "Keep this one. She has a sense of humour." Calum turns away with a smile on his face.
I looked up at Alexander to see his eyes still trailing Calum. If they didn't get along, why invite him to your Charity event?
I had so much more to learn about the life of a socialite and even more about the life of Alexander Carter.
I looked up at Alexander thanking him with a smile. Hopefully, I don't have any more conversations like that for the rest of the night.
"You look stunning." he complimented causing my cheeks to go red. I turn my head to the side not wanting him to see the effect his words had on me. "Red is definitely your colour."
"Thanks." I voiced happy that he improved off my outfit.
Alexander took the margarita glass out of my hand and handed to the passing server, then laced his hands with mine. I look over at him seeking an explanation, but he shrugs, "I'm going to introduce you to a few friends of mine."
I had no idea why he'd want to introduce me to his friends when I wasn't going to stay in his life. I was only in his house to take care of my abandon nephew and yet I wanted to stay. I was happy here; my dog was happy here. I didn't want to go but I knew as soon as he founded Alliyah, it would be bye bye Kalliyah.
Alexander gripped my shoulder and shake me, "What are you thinking about?"
What my life will be after you find my sister.
I shrugged, "Oh, nothing. I'm wondering if Henrique is okay."
He laughed and shook his head, "Henrique is more than okay. He's probably sleeping like a baby right now."
I giggled, "He is a baby."
"He doesn't seem to agree with you. He acts like an adult." Alexander exclaimed, and he was right. Henrique acted way older than his age, sometimes I wonder if he's really eighteen months old."
"I wonder who he gets that from." I paused and thought about it. I had no idea what Alexander father even looked like. "Definitely my sister."
"Have you heard anything from her?" he asked.
I sighed, trying not to get angry. "I told you, I haven't seen or heard from my sister in three years. Why would she contact me suddenly?"
He frowned, "Sorry for mentioning it."
I shook my head feeling bad for lashing out, "No, I'm sorry. It's just that it's a sticky subject."
He nodded, "I understand."
"I'm sorry."
"I said It's okay." He said a little bit too angry for my liking.
