Chapter 29
1127words
A day passed. We're back to being normal Vortans except from the fact that we'll always be the topic of their gossips.
They can never forget how I managed to come back after being the suspicious powerless Chosen from yesterday. It's something they will never be able to get rid at the back of their heads.
Damon's hand is wrapped to my waist as we headed to the dining hall. Elaine and Gabby are in front of us bickering like always. I can still feel the others' stares but I decided to ignore it. I'd get used to it.
We decided to keep our secret mission to ourselves. The last thing I would want to happen is to involve my friends in this dangerous quest.
It's not just any normal task. And knowing these two, they would literally get themselves in trouble.
I suddenly felt the urge to pee. We were about to enter the hall already when I stopped walking and looked at him.
"I need to go to the bathroom. Nature's calling."
"Okay. Let's go." He was about to turned left when I grabbed his hand and stop him.
"No. It's okay. I'll go alone. I'll come back before you know it," I promised. The look on his face spells disagreement but I planted a soft kiss on his lips before he opens his mouth and stop me.
"Bye!" I said and ran to the nearest toilet.
I'm glad nobody's here. I occupied a cubicle and release all the excess water in my body.
It would be weird to talk about this while I'm doing my business but I sort out all the information I've gathered last night from Hlaford. He did not hesitate to give us the information we needed.
What if the culprit is someone he knew and trusted?
I mean, a dog would never bark to its owner's friend unless they're acquaintances but judging from Hlaford's situation, I think the culprit is someone near him. Someone he trusted so much that he could have tea with him without doubting his intention.
Stealing a God's personal belonging is no joke. It would take lots of effort and trust.
A God like him would know immediately who stole his bludgeon but for some reason, he couldn't. Something is wrong...
I flushed the toilet and was about to open the cubicle when I heard noises.
I lingered by the door and observe. The last thing I want to happen today is to have an argument with a fellow Chosen. Some of them are just too entitled to their opinions that they don't care if they go overboard with their words. It's toxic.
"I will but I think I took the wrong one," the woman says from the other side of the door.
My forehead creased.
"No! He would suspect me."
I tried to make less breathing sounds so that whoever this Vortan is, she wouldn't know I'm eavesdropping. I did not move to avoid any sounds.
"You're unbelievable!" she yells.
"Fine. I'll leave it so you take it."
As soon as I heard that, the door slammed shut. I opened the cubicle door slowly. So what did I just heard?
I shrugged my thoughts away. I washed my hands and walked back to the dining hall before Damon marches his way to the bathroom.
"What took you so long?" he asked.
I kissed the line between his brows to try calm him down. He must have felt frustrated while waiting because of the stares and attention he's receiving. I intertwined our hands and enter the hall.
We ate like normal Vortans but the truth is we're here to observe everyone's move. I don't have any suspect as of this moment but I'm sure that it could be anyone.
My eyes are wandering as we leave the area. I scanned the main hall. My eyebrows raised when I saw a golden statue. "Is that Gaviel?" I asked him.
"Yeah."
"I didn't see this statue before," I told him. I gazed at the sculpture once again and study its details. There are gems surrounding it. The artwork is niccoliferous.
My eyes went to the bludgeon its holding. I thought it was Hlaford's for a second but the video of him from yesterday crosses my mind. His bludgeon looks dead.
I was about to approach it and take a closer look when Damon stopped me.
"Those gems are sensors. It would reach the higher-ups once you cross that line," he says and pointed the dotted lines surrounding it.
Okay?
I glanced at Gaviel's statue once more before I let Damon take me away from the hall. We headed to the Spheria's field as planned. Hlaford permitted us to use Damon's gift while we're waiting for the incident to cool down.
We're sure that the menace is in his full guards.
"You won't let me fall, right?" I asked him. Damon chuckled and give me a soft kiss on the forehead. If it weren't for his handsome face, I would have slapped his face already.
He knows that I'm afraid when he's doing back flips and everything.
"I won't. I promise."
"Yeah, right."
He gave me a soft kiss. Damon backed away and winked. "Watch me my lady," he says.
He was about to turn himself to a dragon when I saw Cecilia from afar. I looked at Damon and he seemed to be not so happy about it. I went to my parsen to try calm him down.
"What the hell does she want?" he whispers.
"No idea."
"I'm sorry baby but I won't back away the next time she flashes her powers on my face."
My heart pounded. He's serious. I know he's serious when he's using that raspy voice of him.
"Hey! love birds," she called. Still a few meters away from us. I bet she's afraid that Damon will bash her to this wide field.
"What a coincidence, isn't it? I was going to train myself in this field. Mind sharing the half space of it?" she asks. There's a sweet smile on her face and I never trusted any of it.
"You can. But don't bother us."
"Like as if. It's not like you're someone I should waste my time with," she slurs. "Oh! of course. You must have felt popular after Hlaford announced your name on the classidium."
I can feel his body temperature heating.
"Leave. Do me a favor and leave," I told her.
She raised an eyebrow and smirk. "Aww! The accused wizardus spy is asking me politely to leave. If I know you're afraid that I might found out that you stole Hlaford's bludgeon."
My eyes widened.
"How do you know about Hlaford's missing bludgeon?"
Cecilia's smirk faded.
