Chapter 28

Golden's POV

How many more problems do we have to take just to earn that one peaceful day?

A problem after a problem? First, I had no parsen. Second, I've almost have Draco as my parsen which would have been the most terrible scenario in my honest opinion. Third, I've almost got kicked out of Spheria and now this?

I know that Hlaford did not inform us because it's not really our business but still!

The God of Spheria just lost his bludgeon. It's like a king loosing his crown. And as a Chosen who technically lives in the kingdom he is currently reigning on, I am a responsible citizen. Not to mention that I have this sort of faith to take in this kingdom.

"What do we do?" Elaine asked.

We're gathered in our room. Battling whether we should involve ourselves in this problem or not. If you're going to ask me, I'd say yes right away but what about the problems tailing that decision? We're not trained enough for that. It's not like that one classmate who lost his pen in class. This is a complete different situation.

No one could just steal a God's bludgeon easily.

"You know that reading his mind would get me in trouble, right?" Gabby stresses. The look on his face spells fear. My shoulder falls because what he said was right.

Hlaford did not utter a single word about it according to them. He just accidentally read his mind when Hlaford met his eyes. It didn't even last for three seconds. It was more of like a glance.

My forehead creased. "Wait... Do you always read people's minds?" I asked. His nose crinkled as he digests my question.

"No? I can't always read their minds especially the one's who has an enchanted spell around them that could block my gift," he answers. My face lights up in an instant.

I knew it!

"In fact, I didn't know I could read God Hlaford's mind. We've met eyes countless times and this is the first time that I've read his mind," he added. The corners of my lips turned up. I knew it.

All of them gave me a foreign look. I cleared my voice and prompted them to come closer.

"You were able to read his mind because he let you. He wanted you to know. He wanted us to help him find his bludgeon," I told them. My eyes are full of determination. A God like him would never leave his thoughts open. He has to secure his future plans for the kingdom.

This was not an accident and I'm sure of it.

He did it on purpose.

"Wait! How sure are you? I mean it could be just a coincidence, you know?" Gabby blurted. I gave him a bored look.

"There's no such thing as coincidence in a smart God like him. His every move is planned," I answered. He nod his head like he realizes what I've said.

"Besides you weren't able to read his mind before I got taken away, right?" He nods consecutively and I smiled wider. "And you also told me that the second time you saw him is when he had no bludgeon in his hands, right?" I asked, trying to solve the puzzle pieces for them.

My face lights up when I saw them nodding their heads like they've finally understand where I'm coming from.

"He opened his thoughts so that we could help him!" Elaine exclaims.

"Exactly," I answered.

A smile formed on my lips when I felt Damon's hand on mine. He intertwined our hands and planted a small kiss on my forehead. He's worried again.

He must be afraid that something might go wrong if I try to involve myself in here. This is not a simple robbery. That creature must be powerful enough to commit such felony. And I, a powerless Chosen, will try to catch him.

"How can we help him though?" Elaine asked. My lips parted from what she said. Hlaford wants to keep it a secret that's why he didn't officially announced it to Chosens.

"There's only one way to find out," I said.

"We'll have to talk to him in private."

I found myself standing in front of a huge door. The strips of gold surrounding it intimidated me. My grip on Damon's hand tightened.

The plan is the four of us will talk to him but there's only I and Damon in here.

The love birds chickened out.

"Are you nervous?" he asked using his deep and raspy voice. I smiled weakly.

"No," I lied. "But it's okay. It's not like we're committing perjury or something."

He snuffled his nose and planted a kiss on my forehead.

I took a deep breath as soon as my hand touched the golden knob and turned it open. It was a normal door. It did not bother making any magical transition or what nots which I find less intimidating.

The smell of cinnamons welcomed us when the door sprung open. My eyes scanned the homey ambiance of his chamber once again. The last time we were here was when Greg was trying to make me his son's parsen.

So far, I don't see any good vibes in hiss office and that adds the nervousness in my system. What if we're wrong? What if Gabby gets punished for reading his mind? That's an awful mistake!

But just like what I said. He wouldn't leave his thoughts open if he didn't want anyone reading it. There's no such thing as coincidence to great God like Hlaford.

"Indeed my child."

My eyes widened when Hlaford suddenly pops out of nowhere. I thought he wasn't here for a second.

"Have a seat," he says. If it weren't for Damon, I wouldn't have set a foot inside and accept his offer. We sat at the vacant chair across his office table. My legs were closed because of too much pressure I'm feeling inside.

"I know that you know why you're here," he starts. He lighted a candle on his shelf. "Yes, you are right. I needed your help."

The invisible hard object in my chest disappeared in an instant. But it replace with worriedness.

So we were right? His bludgeon was stolen and he wants our help?

"I believed that the Vortan who stole my bludgeon is near. And I'm not confident enough to find it out myself for I think he knows my every move." My forehead furrowed.

He turned to look at us with his old blue eyes. The corner of his face wrinkled.

"I need your help."
