DISTRACTION 2

Mary was in class at the university taking notes when she felt a tap on her shoulder, she lifts her head and turns around giving the individual her full attention.

"Excuse me, do you have the note? The person asked, but her voice sounded distant, making Mary squeeze her face in confusion and worry.

"Please, could you repeat that?" She still couldn't hear clearly, and as she looked around, around and everyone began to vanish. She started to panic; She decided to close her eye and open it again, looking around and still finds the classroom empty. She hears a shuffling sound behind and turns back to see him there. It was no but NIGHT CROSS.

He gave his devilish smirk and relaxed on the chair behind her. "You know I find it funny when humans think they can actually escape." He smirked once again seeing the fear he instilled into her. "I have been watching you for several days waiting for what you would do but you kept running," he gets up moves to her ear, and whispers, "You know I am everywhere, where would you hide?" He gives a devilish grin.

Mary went mute, it felt like her body was paralyzed the only thing she could do was breathing hard, beads of sweat began dripping from her face down to her body, her hands holding on to the desk tightly making her knuckles turn pale. Her senses also seem to have stopped working… then she hears the sound of a door open and close, making her jerk up. She wakes up only to find out that it was only a trance. Her hand shaky and sweaty making her imbalanced. All these happened during the last lecture. She looks around to find if people were looking. It would be unfortunate for anyone to see her this because she always kept herself composed in class. She never wanted to be the topic of discussion.

She looks towards the board to see another lecturer writing on the board but what strikes her is that the individual looks so familiar from his figure to his posture, she was anxious and waited patiently to see this person, she hoped it would not be who she was expecting but her expectation gets trashed to the ground when she finds out it was who she prayed it would never be...

NIGHT CROSS

she knew he would never leave until he gets what he wants from her it felt like her world had crumbled. He looked at her; briefly it felt like he gave her a silent grin. She felt hopeless, she wanted to disappear and never be seen again.

At this point she felt like nothing else matter she realized that she has been running in circles like a mice trapped in a maze, she thought she could outsmart this but that was impossible when the man she feared was standing there in the physical looking at her. He walks up to her then says to everyone in the classroom but looked at no one in particular. It was like they were all under his spell looking at this handsome devil's face and says

"Call me Mr Night" with a smirk his face "NIGHT CROSS". her worst night mare has become a reality…

The Winstons mansion…

Martha was downstairs at the backyard, busy with the laundry, when little Michael comes running with something in his hands, it was an apple pie from his mother.

"Mary! Mary! Mother says I should give you this apple pie but she says you should finish it as soon as possible before Lady Winston sees you".

She stooped low to pat his head with a broad smile on her face and laughed out loud. He had rubbed off on her during the months she had spent there. She wondered why she had never met or spent time with children in her lifetime. The little boy has become her reason to smile as well as little Michael's mother and father.

His mother was the main cook while his father was the gardener. She never knew how her life would be without them. Michael and his family are the only people who have seen her smile. She gave him another pat on his head with a smile of thanks. Litle Michael felt sad that Mary could not talk.

"Don't worry Mary, I would become rich and I would get you the best doctor so you would be able to talk again". Martha smiled and hugs him. If only he knew that she could talk, but she chooses not to, they mustn't know.

She smiled at him again. He scurried of running towards the direction of who knows where. Mary decided to rest from drying the laundry. It was a sunny day. She sat down on the bench at the corner brought out the apple pie to eat. Just one bite, she had herself moaned.

That lady was fantastic. Nothing she ever cooked tasted wrong. She was so busy enjoying the taste of the apple pie it was so divine.

"That pie is amazing right do you mind sharing?", Mary quickly turns to see who got her distracted from enjoying her apple pie, it was an average boy who looked a little haggard because of his rumpled clothing. He seemed to be at the age of twenty-two with a thick accent showing that he must be from the local side then he smiled showing a set of perfect white teeth, this was strange for someone who was not from a wealthy family. he had a rough patch of curly brown hair. He was tall and not much flesh to his bones he had an overly friendly aura that Martha hated. Martha kept glaring at him which made him smile even more she cringed at his attitude.

"Nice to meet you, I am the new stable boy he said with a little high pitch to his voice, I couldn't help but notice you and how much you enjoyed the pie from far away". He stretched out his hand to her but she ignored him and stood up, wrapping her pie she was ready to go back to work.

He ignored her stern behavior rushing to assist her with spreading the laundry, "I can help you with that", he picked up a bedsheet to spread. Martha dragged it out of his hand,

"oh I am sorry I thought I was helpful. I am new here and trying to make new friends. May I ask the way to the main building I would like to speak with Madame? I do hope I can be a friend to you".

They were soon interrupted by the sound made by one of the maids who worked there. "lady Winston requests the presence of all workers". The small lady said in a timid voice. Mary was glad that they were interrupted for the first time. As the unwanted interruption followed behind her, he was confused as he did not know what he did wrong. While all these took place, there was someone by the shadow watching and it was a confused Philip, wondering why he was jealous at the sight of the stable boy talking to her; it seemed that mary had made a new friend.
