Chapter 18

All this was also Iris's fault, her voice in my head telling me. "Seth is great, Seth is sweet, Give Seth a chance. Girl you need to have sex." Her constant reminder of how I didn't have a sex life and I should get one, made me want Seth.

This was all her fault.

I reached for my phone again. In the notification bar, it showed that Seth responded to my text, but I will ignore it.

I dial Iris's number and she entered immediately. "Hey, hun. What's up?"

"We have to talk. We need to have lunch today."

"Okay, right to the point. What happened?" she sounds a bit concern.

"Meet at Bellas at 12:15 and I'll tell you all about it." I couldn't wait to share the news with her. I couldn't wait to blame her for putting me in this situation.

"That's fine with me. It is something I should be worried about?"

Shaking my head, "No. This is something you're going to love but I am going to hate." Iris was all about gossips that involved me.

"Hmm...that kind. I can't wait. Talk to you later, chica."

"Yea see you soon." Then I hang up the phone. I had so much work to do, it's impossible. Cases on top of cases and each one I have to make my client win because I've never lost a case and I don't plan on losing one anytime soon.

Knowing Seth, the Harrison Samuels case just got complicated because knowing him, he'll not stop until Mr. Benjamin is behind bars and he made it quite clear in court today. Seth was no baby DA, he knew exactly what he was doing so I'll have to turn up my game. There is no way in hell I'm going to let Seth Parker win this case.

No way in Hell.

Not on my grandparent's grave.

No way.

My blonde took a seat across from me. She pops both of her hands on the table, "Now, tell me what's going on."

After sitting at the table alone for a few minutes, I decided to just tell her straight out with a story. "I slept with Seth."

Her face went from concern to surprise in seconds. She had her open wide open and then a bring grin came on her face. "You little bitch. When did that happen?"

"Last night at his place."

She started cracking up, then she calmed down. "Finally. Finally, someone got in your pants after over a year. How was it?"

Before I answer I choose my words wisely. "It was great."

"I hear the but coming." She tilts her head to the side.

I pushed the tart that I had bought for her in her direction then responded, "But it will never happen again."

Ignoring the tart, she growled. "What! Why?"

"He's a DA."

"And?"

"I'm a Defender."

"And?" she repeated.

"DAs' and Defender or on opposite teams and pulse he's the prosecutor for the new case, I can't be sleeping with him."

She shakes he held and looked me in the eyes. "Really? Those are your reasons."

"Yes, there are pretty damn good reasons why I should never sleep with him again."

She shakes her head to show her disappointment. "Girl, you had sex last night with one of America's finest and you here telling me that it will never happen again."

"It's not as simple as you think." Nothing about sleeping with Seth was simple. ""It is. By the time you ready to get a man, they will be all taken or gay."

I rolled my eyes at her. "Seth was great, but I told you, I'm not looking for a relationship. I don't need a man to be happy."

"So, you're telling me, last night with Seth was just sex?"

"Yea, it was. Seth and I can't be anything together. As I said before, in our jobs we are enemies."

"Then why did you sleep with him?"

I sigh, "I didn't know he was a DA."

"Would that have made a difference?" Iris took up the plantain tart and bit into it.

"Yes, it would. I wouldn't have slept with him." I wouldn't have slept with him period if he didn't bring me to that Jazz place which slow intimate music. "Can we change the topic now?" Talking too much about Seth was not god for me. I need to get him out of my mind and out of my system.

A relationship with Seth was the last thing I was looking for.

I laughed as I watch Rojo and her puppies enjoying the outdoor breeze, the grass and the tiny ball that they were playing with. I laid on a blanket under a tree, the dogs not too far away from me.

As I doggy mommy I try taking them out of the apartment for at least four times a week. That way they get to interact with dogs as well. It was almost time to give away two of the puppies since I don't take care of all five dogs by myself.

"Hello, Ms. Jones." A disembodied voice said from behind me. I turned away to see the person I've been trying to avoid all week looking down at me.

"So, you're still following me, ugh." I looked up at Seth. He was wearing a sweat trenched T-shirt and a man short. His muscles were printing through the shirt, showing off his goodies.

"Always so conceited. I told you, we live in the same area. We are bound to see each other and why would I even follow you. You've been ignoring texts." Seth placed his hands in the pocket of his shorts and look down at me. I felt a little guilty about ignoring the messages, but I didn't have much of a choice.

"I told you, we can't have sex again."

"Yea, but I still don't understand why not?"

I sigh. I pushed myself off the grass and try to stand up. Seth holds out hands for me to take but I denied, it is standing up on my own.
