Chapter 4

Under the moonlight, a slender figure stood alone by the roadside, sea breeze blowing her long hair and dress—beautiful like a painting.
She held a camera that hung by her side.
Vince quickly composed himself, turned his head, silently got out of the car, and opened the door for me. He held my hand to help me out.
Following his guidance, I stepped out and stood steady. Vince smiled with rare gentleness and was about to speak when I suddenly interrupted him.
I stretched out my finger, lazily pointing in that direction.
"Vince, look, there's actually someone taking photos over there!"
"What a beautiful girl!"
Vince's body suddenly trembled as he looked where I pointed, color instantly draining from his face.
He almost sprang away, his body hitting against the car door, creating distance between us, his deep eyes filled with panic.
It was Audrey Marchetti.
Vince's true love, the one he cherished above all.
A brilliantly talented independent photographer.
Audrey also spotted the eye-catching sports car and walked toward us with composed steps.
Vince's hand instinctively reached for the door handle but then froze, his whole being falling into a ridiculous state of confusion.
Surprised, aren't you, Vince? I've known all along that Audrey was here.
I watched his awkward state with great interest and, before he could speak, took a few steps toward Audrey.
The sea breeze rushed in, carrying a salty, humid scent.
I curved my lips toward her and said, "You two know each other?"
I tilted my head with feigned innocence, looking at Vince's pale face, then at Audrey's expressionless face.
Vince's Adam's apple bobbed hard, his mouth opening and closing several times before finally squeezing out a few words through gritted teeth.
"...An old friend."
His gaze darted around on the ground, not daring to look up.
Audrey glanced at me, then turned to Vince. She tugged at the corner of her mouth, but her smile was ice cold.
"Long time no see, Vince."
Her voice crept into my ears like the sea breeze, devoid of any warmth.
It really had been a long time, hadn't it?
Just the night before last they were passionately entangled, and today she runs into her man "dating" another woman?
The smile at the corner of my mouth deepened as I stepped forward and threw the question directly at Audrey.
"What old friend? I've never heard Vince mention you before."
Audrey raised an eyebrow, completely ignoring me, just staring stubbornly at Vince.
Cold sweat broke out on Vince's temples, his lips trembling, unable to utter a single word.
Audrey let out a short, cold laugh.
She turned around neatly, leaving us with only her resolute back view.
"It seems I've interrupted something."
Well, now Vince should completely break ties with Audrey.
