Chapter 2

His face was so devastatingly handsome it made me dizzy.

I'd never seen such perfection on any Alpha in Black Claw besides Cassian.

His emerald eyes were deep and sexy, threatening to pull me under.

I felt his arm muscles tense beneath my touch.

His body radiated power and strength.

"Please, help me?"

I begged, my heart hammering against my ribs.

I must have looked a mess, tear-stained and disheveled.

He would surely reject me—who would accept a proposal from a stranger?

To my shock, he chuckled softly near my ear, his voice like velvet.

"My pleasure, darling."

What?!

He actually accepted my proposal?

I stared at him in disbelief.

He wore a tailored black suit that barely contained his muscular chest. His long fingers produced a business card from his pocket.

For some inexplicable reason, I wanted to kiss those fingers.

"Fenrir Drake. My card. Where I come from, proposals cannot be retracted."

He kissed the back of my hand like a gentleman, but his gaze was razor-sharp. "Are you prepared to take responsibility?"

"O-Of course." My mind struggled to keep pace as I nodded.

Cassian's irritated voice cut through the moment, jolting me back to reality.

He spat angrily:

"Enough, Lyra. Another actor you've hired? Can you stop being so desperate? It's pathetic!"

In the past, I'd hired people to make Cassian jealous, desperate for his attention.

Each time, he'd seen through the ruse and mocked my efforts.

Yet I stubbornly orbited him like a moon, enduring the pack's contempt.

Despite the pain, I believed someday he would see me—truly see me—and fall in love.

Now his words cut like ice. His emotions were crystal clear.

His disgust for me had reached its limit.

My heart plummeted as if I'd been slapped in public.

Rain began to fall as I trembled from the cold. Suddenly, a warm hand enveloped mine from behind.

Fenrir. He hadn't left?

He gripped my hand firmly, meeting Cassian's gaze with a smile. "I'm not an actor, and I am going to marry Lyra."

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

This was the first man who dared to meet an Alpha's eyes directly!

Cassian sneered: "Are you sure you want to marry such a pathetic, desperate creature?"

He turned his gaze back to me.

"Lyra, you never know when to quit. When you regret this, don't come crawling back."

He was always so confident, so arrogant, as if my devotion was guaranteed.

Just because I was his Luna?

If he could choose another woman, why couldn't I choose another Alpha?

I clenched my fist and walked away with Fenrir, ignoring Cassian's warning.

Cassian looked stunned by my reaction. After all, I had worshipped him for so long.

In his mind, my devotion was eternal and unbreakable.

Someone whispered in Cassian's ear that the stranger appeared to be the Alpha of the Moon Shadow pack.

The Moon Shadow pack controlled the largest business empire in the territory, their Alpha a symbol of ultimate power.

Cassian snorted dismissively.

"Impossible. What would bring him here? A wolf of his status would never be interested in Lyra. She'll come crawling back soon enough."
